This was our fourth stay at the Nelson, and it was another enjoyable experience. We stayed in the annexe, which is a little more expensive than the accommodation within the pub. It was worth it, though to gain the extra space. The food in the restaurant was good. We were a little disappointed that our first choice was unavailable, but our second choice was well cooked and plentiful. I think vegans may struggle to find suitable food, though the veggie lasagne may be ok if it is made with non dairy cheese. Alternatively, as the pizzas are made from scratch it would be possible to have a veggie pizza made without cheese - the staff here are very accommodating. On previous occasions muesli has been available for breakfast, but this choice wasn't available on our visit. However any disappointment was short lived, as the vegetarian breakfast was great, and the grilled kipper was delicious - a proper kipper, none of that dreadful 'boil in the bag' stuff that some establishments serve up. Staff members were helpful and friendly. I didn't recognise them from previous visits, so maybe there has been a change in proprietor. We will definitely be back for another stay.
