I live just down the road from the Great House but haven’t been for years as until recently I’ve heard poor reports about the food but my friend had been told it’s under new management so we decided to pay a visit. Wow. Superb meal. There were four of us and we had two tureens of vegetables and plenty of variety. Cooked to perfection for me but if you like veg well cooked I’d mention you do . Huge Yorkshire pudding and plenty of meat. Gravy was outstanding. I had all three courses which is unusual for me but I couldn’t fault anything. Staff were pleasant and attentive. I’m already planning a return visit.

Great location with a bus stop outside taking you into Porthcawl. Rooms clean with fluffy towels and bathrobes. Tea making facilities also in bedrooms. Breakfast absolutely top quality and staff also friendly and allowed us early access to our rooms. Highly recommend.

We only booked for one night as we had just emptied our house and we where traveling on , this is basically a nIce hotel , maybe we where just unlucky , just a warning for future guests ,they have a room that is called the black room , well I can write a full page just about that, everything is black, floors, walls, curtains, lamps , even the ceiling, is black mirrored with small purple fluorescent lights , the lighting is terrible, no ways u can put any makeup on , not even in the bathroom , , I see I am not the first person to comment on this terrible decorated room , anyway , I could describe it another way , but I leave it up to the individual, we needed a shower , cold water and unfixable , we where offered another room , but I just did not have the strength anymore to pack up again , I did ask for a discount, which was given , but I am afraid the damage was done , so all and all not the best experiences, just a thought , maybe a change of the colour scheme in that horrible room would help Betsy Thomson

Visited with my girlfriends for what was supposed to be a casual girly catch up but ended up a gastronomic feast. We were truly blown away with the quality of food and cocktails. An agreed favourite was the Crab Cake starter closely followed by the Scallops. My cod main course was beautifully cooked and delicious. Young gentleman serving us was attentive, knowledgeable without being to intrusive. A great evening, will definitely return.

the meal was top class, but ,the service was mandioca at best, staff need to learn to be polite and a smile would not go amiss, staff failed to mention there is a parking enforcement policy in place, spent £100+ on a meal for two then 10 days later had a £60 parking fine, guess where I will not be eating again.

Sorry to see that my favourite restaurant now endorces a penalty charge for cusomer parking forcustomer and non customer alike, it's only my opinion but surely this is bad business practice by potentially penalising regular customers, when surely just a general sign would be appropriate.

A mix of very modern (insta wall, trendy bathroom) and traditional ( cozy bar, perfect service) We travel regularly to the area and have never stayed here before but we will 100% be back and stay longer next time. Bedroom very comfy with good linen and towels (room 2 quite minimal but clean & bright) brunch was delicious, we will definitely eat here next time now we know it’s not just a tasting menu on offer. Beautiful grounds with lots of seating around the lawn and on the terrace. What’s not to love

The location and setting are lovely. We were 10 minutes early but the reception manager was thrown by that. When we returned after a half hour we got 1 of the outdoor rooms but it was dark & claustrophobic so she kindly changed it to a top floor one. It had great light and windows, was very clean and spacious. Later I was unable to run a bath as water trickled out but nobody was available at 9pm which I understand. But it didn't get fixed for our 2nd night nor the broken toilet seat. Money was deducted from our final bill to try to address the issues. The food was of such a high standard that I thought it was Michelin starred, really!!

We have just enjoyed a wonderful Sunday afternoon tea at the Great House.Excellent value with a good choice of treats. We all said a really good spread and even a few dairy free treats for the toddler.Plenty of tea and coffee and all saved in traditional china.Service was prompt but in no way did we feel rushed.Very freshly made which is so unusual nowadays ,well recommended and thank you again
