We have just visited the Hermitage for one week’s ski break. The hotel is really pretty with plenty of charm. Our deluxe room was lovely with a beautiful view, very spacious balcony and good amenities. We particularly enjoyed the ambience in the bar area and wonderful appetisers with a drink of an evening. They were very welcome and such variety! Lift passes can be purchased at reception on a daily basis which was great. Now for some of the points that they could improve on. We are fortunate to have stayed in many 5 star hotels around the world and in ski resorts and the Hermitage is almost 5 star, but not quite in our opinion. The physical building and staff are 5 star, but the service is not quite there consistently. We really missed not having a cup of tea or cake on return from skiing as most other ski hotels offer. A few items on the bar would have be nice, even if you have to pay for the tea/espresso. The cost to the hotel to do this would be minimal and it would generate more beverage purchases so seemed odd they didn’t. Dinner is not until 7.30pm so it can be a long wait if you are hungry! On a number of occasions we waited a long time for the ski shuttle - in excess of 15 minutes at the front of the hotel on two occasions, despite the shuttle being ready and waiting and it was obvious to the shuttle driver that we were waiting (ski gear on, standing with skis by the shuttle) but we were ignored. For the return shuttle you have to call the hotel, while other hotels seem to offer a regular service at peak times. We did not know this on our first day and waited nearly 30 mins at 4pm at the designated pick up point before we called them. They were very prompt in collecting us however when we did call. Dinner was pleasant but nothing remarkable. The dishes are well put together and most of the time well presented, although not always. You will not go hungry on the half board option as 4/5 courses are included and portions are generous. Things tasted good, not amazing, and were not memorable. We did get a little bored of exactly the same vegetables every night with grill dishes and the same sauce and sometimes what we received did not match the menu description. It may be different if you are not in half board though. Service in the restaurant was also hit and miss, sometimes it was great, other times we waited over 30 minutes to be offered dessert after main course and sometimes it was never offered. We found the prices on the wine list extremely expensive, so much so we did not drink wine and chose to drink at other venues in Cervinia. We expected a typical hotel surcharge but felt it was over the top. We have drunk wine in 2 star Michelin restaurants and this was higher than all of those. We are sure the wine list is very good, but there is nothing really below 100/150 euros per bottle. All staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful - especially in the bar, and at breakfast. We felt it would be good if the breakfast team proactive
