The Crown Hotel, Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire

We had stayed at the hotel several times and were always pleased with the whole experience. We booked the Christmas package following a family bereavement and could not have chosen a better place. The decor, furnishings, cleanliness and comfort were excellent, the food freshly made, served at the correct temperature and delicious and the service friendly and efficient. Emma and her team were welcoming, courteous and professional and went out of their way to ensure our comfort; moreover they were sensitive, supportive and compassionate in the knowledge that we had lost a much loved family member. We had a relaxing time in a warm, comfortable environment. We look forward to our next visit.

Stayed here a good few times now specifically new year and we love the place good location and very good facilities.

We were looking for a hotel with a pool - for a relaxing 2 day break. Came across this hotel which seemed to have everything we wanted. It has easy and secure parking. The room, whilst not big had everything we needed - bath and shower, comfortable bed and pillows, coffee pod machine, tea and biscuits. The staff were, without exception, excellent - friendly, polite, professional and efficient. They could not have done more to make our stay comfortable. The pool was lovely - easily big enough. There was a jacuzzi, a steam room and a sauna. This is not a spa with treatments but it is a lovely place to have a swim and relax. The changing room could be upgraded and only had one cubical - but it was acceptable. The food was good. There was a very good choice and it was fairly priced. Wine was a bit pricey - house wine £30 but they were all good wines - so you didn't mind paying. There was a coffee area serving coffee and cakes throughout the day and a well stocked bar. It was a very relaxing place to stay- very good value (they were doing some good one and two night deals) and very enjoyable. Boroughbridge is a good location - close to Harrogate, Knaresborough, York and easy access to the two Yorkshire National Parks I would recommend and we are looking forward to returning'

The room was lovely, comfortable bed with all the amenities you need for a short stay. It was let down by the breakfast and the cleanliness of the spa. The spa closed at 7 on the Saturday evening which we thought was a little early for a Saturday evening so we went in the morning before breakfast. We arrived at 7.40am and headed for the steam room. Looking past the fact that it is old and in need of an update it was so dirty I didn’t want to sit down and wished I’d taken my flip flops. There was hair, dirt and grime everywhere. It had only been open 40mins so to see this level of uncleanliness was unexpected. We then went for breakfast (included in the nights stay) We were greeted and seated by a lovely young lady. She showed us where everything was and told us that breakfast could be a little longer than usual as they were busy. Had no problem with this and appreciated being informed. I went to get juice and pastries but the OJ was empty and there were no pastries left. When I asked if they were replenishing I was told ‘I think people have taken a lot today’. She came to our table 5 minutes later to apologise with two croissants explaining they had run out of pastries. Breakfast was between 7 - 10am we arrived at 8.45! The table next to us arrived 30 minutes later and asked the same, they were simply told ‘sorry we have been really busy today and already been serving breakfast for 2 1/2 hours’. My husband had the full English which he enjoyed and I had the eggs florentine. Described on their menu as creamed spinach with eggs and hollandaise. Guess they were too busy to remember the creamed spinach on my breakfast. When I asked the waitress she seemed confused so I showed her the menu. She said she would replace it but I’d already waited for the meal and didn’t want to wait any longer so declined and ate what I had. Overall not the best experience.

We have just returned from another stay at this hotel. The hotel is perfect for our needs, just off the A1 and close enough to York, Leeds or Harrogate for a day trip. We had breakfast in the restaurant and found this to be tasty and hot. The staff were worked hard as the restaurant was busy but they kept smiling and were friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean. Our bed was large and comfortable and the room was beautifully decorated in a traditional style. We used the leisure facilites and found these to be well maintained. The swimming pool is larger than many of the pools we have used in bigger chains of hotels and we enjoyed the jacuzzi and steam room after our swim. The check in staff were friendly and informative. We asked for a room with a street view if possible and were given a lovely spacious room on the front of the building. Overall, we had a lovely stay and look forward to returning again soon.
