We recently celebrated our anniversary at La Monastica. A beautifully restored former monastery set on a quiet borgo in Tuscany. It offers a calm, comfortable five-star stay in a truly scenic location where the atmosphere balances history with modern ease, creating a place that feels both special and relaxing. The old chapel now serves as the resort’s fine-dining restaurant, and it’s a memorable setting for dinner. Breakfast is served in the choir overlooking the chapel, which adds a unique touch to the morning — peaceful, bright, and a lovely way to start the day. The terraced gardens are well kept, leading down to swimming pools bordered by lemon trees. Whether you’re sitting by the pool or walking through the grounds, the views across the valley are wide and open. Rooms and suites are elegant, with plenty of natural light and simple, tasteful design. Ours had a beautiful bathroom with a bath tub and a panoramic view over the valley. The spa is another highlight, featuring an intimate rock pool, sauna, Turkish bath, and several treatment areas. It’s well laid out and offers a quiet space to unwind after exploring the region. La Monastica is a great base for enjoying Tuscany at a slower pace.

What an amazing place. Beautifully restored, stunning location, delicious food, manicured gardens and the most incredibly professional, kind and attentive staff you could wish for. Nothing is too much trouble and everybody goes out of their way to make this a very special place. Thank you for an amazing 5 days and very much looking forward to returning.

We are currently on our last day at La Monastica hotel in Buggiano. It’s the best hotel by far on our 3 week tour of Italy. From the moment we arrived we have been given absolutely superb service. The General manager greeted us whilst having a welcome drink which was very personal. The front desk team are always on point and at hand to deal with any requests, the bar staff (went over and above with amrequest to purchase us a certain Italian Gin) and the solid restaurant team are some of the best we’ve ever encountered. Have eaten in the restaurant every night and food and wine excellent. With Lucca and Florence 30-40 mins away it’s a great base to have in Tuscany. The hotel is a newly renovated monastery which in itself gives it a unique feel. It has amazing views for breakfast and dinner (different venues) and a great spa built into the rocks. Hubby and I had very relaxing treatments with very professional spa staff…..wish we coulda had another! In summary, if you want luxury coupled with top service and food then look no further. La Monastica is 10/10. We will be back! Thanks guys

We loved La Monastica. The property is beautiful and secluded above the town. It’s very quiet except for the tower bell which seems to ring on the hour 24hours per day. The food was good, the service very attentive and professional and the room was high standard. We would stay again.

Location is so unique. You go up a narrow steep driveway and once through the gates it’s a magical place. Staff are very attentive. We had a great experience.

La Monastica is something else. Starting with my favorite feature, the pools that are set right under the bell tower, which offers a peaceful spot to unwind. We had a room with a terrace overlooking the hills where we loved sipping an espresso in the morning while listening to the sound of birds. The breakfast area had stunning views of the surroundings and dinner was set inside of the church which offered such a special dinner experience. As vegetarians, we appreciated how well they catered to vegetarians, even going out of their way to make vegan pastries for us at breakfast. Highly recommend La Monastica, it’s the kind of place that gets the details right.
