Lovely country pub/hotel, in a lovely part of the country (the village overlooks Pendleton hill etc) run by lovely people. Great food too. I stayed here midweek in October and everything was right (really ought to have given five stars) struggling for 200 now…done

We stayed here for B&B and were so pleased with everything. We didn’t eat here in the evening as we were going to a 40th party. Our room was clean and very tasteful, obviously recently refurbished. The room had lots of nice little touches that you don’t find in most places. The toiletries were from White Company and very nice. There was a generous supply of tea bags, coffee pods for the coffee machine, sugar, milk, hot chocolate and Horlicks sachets. Also a jar of homemade shortbread biscuits which were very welcome. As we went down to breakfast, on a very dull wet day, we were delighted to see the fire was lit and that there were candles on every table and also scattered around the room. All this gave a warm welcoming feeling to the room. Breakfast was excellent and served by friendly efficient staff. It was a really amazing spread and the cooked breakfast was hot and tasty. It was the manager we paid on leaving and she informed us that she had very recently taken over managing the place. We congratulated her on her excellent management and lovely staff and for making our visit a memorable one.

Slow service. Took almost 25 minutes to get a drinks order, despite being only having us in ther main dining room. Average over priced unimaginative food Feels like living on past reputation. Poached egg well over cooked on fishcake starter.

Friendly attentive staff. From check in to leaving we felt welcomed and cared for. Fabulous meal in the evening with a hearty breakfast the next day. Cocktails to end the day- perfect! The rooms were spotless and all different. They offer everything you need. The beds and pillows are so comfortable.

Lovely, friendly staff. Comfortable bed. Clean room. Lots of hot water. Great food. Perfect location. Highly recommend a stay. We were there for our anniversary and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, visiting villages and walking in the countryside .

Stayed at the weekend with friends - had 7 rooms in total. We were looked after well, the rooms were very comfortable, toiletries good quality, bed linen good quality and breakfast excellent. Had a few drinks ion the bar which was welcoming. Brilliant location in a charming village that was quiet at night so sleep was uninterupted. Overall we were delighted with our stay.

Was so looking forward to having Sunday Roast made but was very disappointed in our meal. We have eaten here before( not roast dinner) and have had lovely meals, sadly the roast beef dinner was plentiful but tasteless, the beef had no flavour, the roast potatoes had a hardly seen the roasting tin they were so aneamic and the gravy was tasteless. The best part of the meal was the Yorkshire puds.

Booked here adhoc last minute and went off our planned route by a fair distance as we wanted somewhere quaint and on a scenic route. Arrived in time for what looked like a nice looking bar restaurant. We received a warm welcome and were shown to our table. The team took our food and drink order and we did not have to wait long for the food to arrive. The portion sizes were big and for the price of £21.50 per Sunday lunch I’d expect that. We did have to ask where were the toast potatoes that were advertised on the menu so the server had to hurriedly disappear and come back with them. Because they’d had to go away and get the potatoes I feel that all they had done was get some potatoes from the pre prep area and didn’t bother to brown them off in the beef dripping as they looked a bit anaemic in colour, that said though they were nice tasting. Overall our meals were tasty and we were glad we did not order any starters. We finished our drinks and declined any deserts and asked for our bill. During the meal the team were attentive and came around asking was all ok to which it was. Once the bill arrived I checked it like I normally do, and thought the red wine my missus had had was a tad expensive but I am aware this is how eateries make their extra cash in what is a hard business to operate in. I though did check the price against the menu and observed that we’d been charged £12.85 a glass which is very expensive for a Rioja. The issue though was the menu card on our table was only showing £11.20. We raised the question with the staff and they went away and checked. They came back a short period later and said the £12.75 was correct to which I then showed them the menu card on our table. They disappeared again and came back and said it was an old card so it’s still £12.75. Yes it’s only pennies but they didn’t even to apologise and say we will honour the menu price. Nothing. Fortunately my missus got me to bite my tongue and not make a further scene. We took the bill paid and left. We did not leave a tip which was a shame as up to this point the staff had done a decent job. The staff lost out because of managements policy on incorrectly charging beverages and not looking after its customers. When we left nine of the staff said good bye thank you nothing. Which we found rude. It’s shame as we do know if some local companies who’d we would have recommended to visit here but now we won’t. And fair to say we will not be back either. The 3 stars is for the tasty food and for the atmosphere. I normally only write 4/5star reviews but I’ve also changed my policy on this just like this place changes policy on charging customer against shown menu prices.
