I am usually pretty easing going when it comes to reviews. I booked this room based of the name Tapestry. I love some other in the area but decided to try The Kelly. Never again. First, Staff were amazing and that’s it. Richardo and James. Room: 1207 Very dirty on check in. See photos. Bottled Waters had been refilled and top screwed on. Not fresh and I was just floored that housekeeping would do this. Floor in the bathroom was so sticky and not clean. The shower had mold. Towels were dirty. The bed was dirty. I called and James sent housekeeping up to change the sheets. She didn’t touch the duvet. Which I think had feces on it. Idk. The phone didn’t work. The shower was room temp and it was awful. I just wanted a hot shower. I ran it too for a while. The bed and mattress is hard as a rock. I came home with my pillows to find a roach on one of my pillows. The hotel is old and not remodeled. Given it is a very very old building Hilton has put bandaids on so much from lights to fixtures and paint. Carpet and elevators disgusting and sticky and dirty. Noise! Awful. Multiple train tracks on one window side. The other windows constant drag racing at all hours of the night. Crappy night sleep. Bar: The wine was fine. Menu looked not appetizing at all. I ate elsewhere. Hilton needs to figure this out. Doing an injustice to its employees and hotel guests.

Please ensure to check your bill - I had a stay from 6/19-6/21 but did not arrive until just past midnight on 6/20. However, the staff allowed someone to charge $74.13 worth of liquor charges to my room (which included a $20 tip). When I received the bill via email - I immediately tried to call but their phone systems were down throughout the weekend. I was finally able to reach the adjoining Home 2 Suites and was told “they were having all sorts of issues with billing and even checking people out” and I was told my bill would be corrected. This was after I opened a case with Hilton Honors. I was NEVER contacted by Hilton nor the property by Monday, so I called the property back. I explained the situation and was told they pulled the receipts that had “my signature” on them and that they had contacted me and closed the case already. After informing them that was impossible and that they needed to view their security footage - I was transferred to accounting - who obviously didn’t answer their phone. I am now back on the phone with Hilton trying to get this resolved- someone is not doing their job(s) at the Hilton Garden Inn in Downtown Birmingham to safeguard your personal information. I will not be back

Outstanding
NNomad29589815115My main reason for coming to Birmingham was to visit the civil rights sites but staying a couple of nights in a late 19th century mansion was a nice bonus in the middle of a long road trip. The house is certainly beautiful and the location is quite nice. There are a couple of upscale restaurants in the neighborhood (Five Points), a real good bbq place and a bunch of standard fast food places. I found there was plenty of parking behind the building (the parking lot belongs to the mansion) and it was a convenient, quick drive to the civil rights sites. The breakfast both mornings was ample and delicious. I found it to be a relaxing two days.
This Holiday Inn Express was able to check us in at 11am when we arrived instead of the usual 3pm. This is a fairly new hotel . . . modern, spotless, well-lit lobby and initially everything seemed to work as it should. Then lots of little things went awry (locked out of our room during our 5-nite stay, flickering lamp, not all breakfast food available, mini-frig froze our food, towels not available, trash not emptied), though everything except breakfast was corrected when the front desk was notified. Receptionist Jennifer was particularly helpful . . . a model of professionalism, smarts and courtesy. Our main disappointment was the poor lighting in the room which seems to be the way at most hotels. Still, the location is great . . . just off I-65, 15 minutes from downtown and the staff helpful. And the brightly lit breakfast area became a perfect spot for late afternoon Scrabble games. We would stay here again.
BBill ROver the years we have stayed a quite a few Doubletrees and I have always considered them a step up from Hampton Inn etc. As we were without the dogs on this trip I thought a nice hotel would be worth it. The hotel is well situated near the freeway but that is about all the positives I can find. After a full day of driving my wife and I decided we would eat in the hotel. So after checking in (no cookies were offered) we freshened up and headed down, this was around 7:45 pm. There was one couple in the actual dining area and quite a few people in the adjacent bar area. We waited near the entrance and soon a female server walked past with some plates for the bar area. She did not acknowledge our presence but she was serving so no big deal I thought. On her way back she continued to ignore us as did the male server also heading to the bar area. He also declined to acknowledge us on his way back and when she came past a third time looked right at me and uttered not one word I came to the conclusion they did not want to be bothered. There was no please take a seat or I will be right with you so we headed out of there to find a place that did want our business. The hotel is close to a Perry’s Steakhouse and it was packed which would explain the parking difficulty we had but we needed to eat so I gave up the spot it had taken me ten minutes to find. The room itself was fine but the shower was a tub/shower combo with no non-slip on the tub bottom. There was no shower mat for stepping out of the tub so we used one of the hand towels. Not a good experience and, in fact, I cancelled a reservation at another Doubletree for our return trip as a result.
GGuest UserThe hotel was clean and in a great location for the reason I was in Birmingham. It was near to the event that I was attending. The sink in my room had a stopper that prevented the water from escaping when I did not want it to collect in the sink during activities such as brushing my teeth and washing my face. The water was also cold and took an excessively long time to heat up even a little bit. It was not even lukewarm. Therefore, I checked out and was unable to shower. My son actually took a cold shower on a cold day, one of the coldest that we have had in Alabama in a while. I was also awakened by an emergency message and alarm to vacate the building due to an emergency only to learn later that it was a test. I learned this when the fire truck arrived and I heard an employee apologizing for not calling them to let them know that it was only a test. I only stayed overnight so there was no other opportunity for me to get a better impression. The only reason that I did not give a lower rating for the facilities is because once I reported the issue with the shower and sink, they sent a handy man to the room to make the repairs, but my son was already taking a cold shower at the time since we were scheduled to get back home to meet previously scheduled obligations. The staff person who was checking me out said that she couldn't do anything for me because I booked through a third party. However, she did state that she would refund the money that I paid for parking.
GGuest UserThis was our third time at this hotel went back because we enjoyed ourselves the previous two times hotel was the same as before could get a sunbed any time of day the food was well prepared pizzas were great can be receptive but always something to eat, maybe the rooms need a little updating but very clean. Was able to keep room late on last day when asked, all staff worked really hard all day. The location is great not as busy as some resorts but enough going on to enjoy yourself. The only negative from previous years was entertainment with was run by one entertainer which didn't seem interested never seen her only walking around talking to lifeguards, the hotel board said in morning three activities a day but in 7 days play pool and darts on one day rest of week only a lazy game obviously her specialty me and my son enjoy pool entertainment which we have done at hotel before which helps people get together and get to know the entertainment staff which is why we went back. The last few days the entertainer left and was replaced, and things improved a little late for us probably would try a new location for next holiday just let down by the entertainment and had to go out of night which if full inclusive defeats the idea of buying drinks, but Rock Cafe if like the music is a good night out .
The hotel is older but updated, and the staff was amazing. Was in town for a sports tournament as was most of the hotel. The breakfast staff and housekeeping did an amazing job keeping up with the demand. It is close to the interstate so that is a concern but we left the ac fan on and bring a fan so no issue. Location is great - would stay here again
GGuest UserI had a great experience with this hotel. I had an unexpected house fire that afternoon and they took very good care of me and my time of need. I would highly recommend to anyone
KKathryn MThis was the second time we've stayed at this hotel. I love it. Comfy and clean and staff is wonderful including Johnnie Murray, DeKiecia Frizzle, Kymone at the front desk and Gloria in housekeeping. Highly recommend. Also love the ravine from street drainage in the back of the hotel. Very peaceful. :-)
GGuest UserMy wife and I booked this hotel for a weekend getaway. As Platinum Elite members, we've stayed at many IHG properties. This hotel definitely does not measure up to IHG standards. We arrived tired after a long day of travel and checked in. The front desk clerk was very friendly and kind. The elevator was incredibly loud and barely functioned. The room we were given was shabby and the shower was stained. But the real issue began when, two doors down the hallway, a dog started barking continuously. The barking didn't stop so we called the front desk and were told the family left the dog behind to go to dinner. So this barking was going to continue indefinitely. The clerk kindly offered to move us to a different room, which we accepted. The 2nd room smelled strongly of mold. I have a severe mold allergy so we couldn't stay here. The clerk then showed us a room across the hall, where we discovered the carpets were still damp following a carpet cleaning. No fans had been brought in to dry the carpet. Even the clerk commented that this should have been done. The clerk then offered to check on another room that we could stay in. When she returned, she said she had to check THREE rooms to find one where the carpets weren't wet. In the room she gave us, the A/C wasn't working, which is a deal-breaker for Alabama in August. Frustrated, exhausted, at our wits end, we just decided to leave. We've never had to leave a property before. After 30 minutes on the phone with IHG, we managed to get a refund. Thankfully we found another, much nicer Holiday Inn Express we could stay at to finally get some rest. We were very upset by this experience and my wife even broke down in tears with frustration and disappointment. This hotel is poorly managed and maintained and is nowhere close to other HIE we've stayed at. I should have read the other reviews more closely and found a different hotel. What a disaster.
