It was amazing to sleep in a castle. We tryed to book dinner in advance but we were told the restaurant was closed. When we came to check inn they asked us if we wanted to eat in the restaurant we told them we tryed to book but that they told us it was closed. The thing is you can only eat at the restaurant if you are staying for the night. We had a delicious dinner with a lovely host. The bed was comfortable but the door in the coridor has squeeky hinges so every time someone opend that door we heard it. We were missing a tv remote but git another one real quick. The shower was lovely, you just need to put a towel down on the end otherwise the whole bathroom will get wet. The breakfast was okay. Some delicious options but they didnt fill the table so everytime you wanted something that wasnt on the table you had to ask. Quick check out and again very friendly staff.

We stayed in one of the lodges for two nights to attend a family wedding. We chose the lodge over staying in a room in the castle because we fancied a hot tub in the woodland. First impression was “it’s small, beautiful and quaint”. We was so looking forward to a luxurious couple of days considering the cost of this lodge. It’s tiny. The bed (which was two singles pushed together) literally took up the whole of the bedroom. You had to open the door and launch yourself onto the end of the bed and crawl up. You could not walk round the bed. The bed was the most uncomfortable bed we had ever slept in. We mentioned this after the first night and was not offered any exchange of room as the hotel was full. On check out the gentleman who I believe was the manager/owner? Was in reception. He was hugely apologetic and certainly smoothed over our issues by saying he would send us a voucher should we try their castle again in the future. I guess he was just trying to get rid of us because two weeks later we are still waiting for the email he said he would send to us. Not that we would go back there again now anyway! Nespresso machine didn’t work. There was no hot water at times The main (and only) door to the lodge was swollen so extremely difficult to close without slamming this. Also difficult to lock. The breakfast basket is poor to say the least. Cold roll, cold croissant, orange juice, an orange, cornflakes, with milk and some natural yogurt. On a positive note when I rang reception and explained that I didn’t like anything in the basket they laid a table for us in the dinning room where we had a full breakfast, Danish pastries, choose of cereals with strawberries, grapes and blueberries. A far better option so thank you for this it was appreciated but feel that if there was choice in the basket we would not have had to get dressed and go to the hotel. On a positive note the wedding was amazing, food served was hot and delicious. The staff worked so hard they deserve recognition for this. So come on Cornhill Castle, change your beds as we couldn’t have been the only people to stay there to complain. If it wasn’t for two nights of no sleep I probably wouldn’t have complained about the rest. We went from here to Edinburgh for the weekend and when we checked out we were so looking forward to our Premier Inn bed. Where you know what you are getting and they have a sleep policy whereby they refund your room value if you don’t have a good night sleep. Premier Inn didn’t disappoint.

Lovely building quiet location. Lots of parking, Friendly staff. Great room. Breakfast was excellent, best black pudding I have ever tasted. Dinner was simple but very nice. What’s not to like? It is obviously set up as w wedding venue but is none the worse for that.

We attended a wedding here on a Tuesday! Could not get access to the room before the ceremony which started at 1pm, so we travelled dressed. Staff were ok, could do with more experience! The bar was so so, had issues with fresh lime...really 4 star! The room once we got access was ok, we stayed in the Inverary room, nicely laid out. The meal was ok, starter could have been warmer, main could have been warmer, dessert ok...really 4 star! The buffet at night was a disaster...forgot to put the rolls out and the cutlery until asked...really 4 star! Breakfast was a bit hit and miss...had to ask for toast and separate teapot as the main pots were stinking of coffee...really 4 star!

Having stayed at this hotel previously but not had the time to fully appreciate the hotel, we were really looking forward to spending more time this time around. Stayed in an executive room, which was clean and tidy. For me the bed was uncomfortable but ok for my wife. The view for an executive room wasn't good, blocked by a roof. The evening was interrupted by firstly a fire alarm, of which the staff apologised, having been set off accidentally. The main problem was the blazing argument the people had in the next room, between midnight and two, of course not the hotels fault, but caused us a restless night. When we booked we also booked a table at the restaurant, on arrival we were told we would have dinner in the middle room, as a wedding party were in the restaurant, not too much of a problem. When we arrived for dinner we were demoted to the bar, far from suitable as there was both a wedding and pre wedding party using the bar. We asked to be moved, which we were, without any problems, we were moved to the restaurant along with the pre wedding party, again not a issue for us, but we did get a few funny stares from the party. The lady who was the waitress was fully of apologies and lovely as were the people on reception. We were considering the hotel for a special event next year but are now reconsidering.

Newly tastfully decorated, staff friendly and attentive. Standard of food was on a par with pub grub, so not for foodies, also the dining room windows needed a wipe down due to dead insects. Wardrobe in room almost useless for hanging clothes full of other items . Better provision for hanging your cloths is needed, the wardrobe was small and was used to store a fridge, safe, hairdryer and ironing board. In short a potentially very nice hotel let down by attention to details.

Spent 2 nights in Spey Lodge with Hot tub. Wonderful experience. So relaxing with lovely views over farmland and River Clyde to Tinto Hill. Lodge furnished and equiped to high standard. Super fluffy towels. Excellent Continental breakfast hamper delivered each morning. We ate in the Restuarant each night and the food and service was outstanding. All Staff were super helpful and friendly. Special thanks to Emily who looked after us so well. We will definitely return soon.
