Hotels Near Schleuse Neukölln (Unterschleuse) in Berlin

I stayed in the hotel on 8 December for one night with my wife, 3 years old son and 2 months infant daughter. Upon check-in we received an upgrade and a welcome drinks voucher being a Platinum member of Accor. I informed the reception that I would like to have a late check-out up to 2 PM because I will be outside at other part of the city for a meeting and might be late in afternoon. The reception agreed to it and told me that Platinum members have free late check-out. I also asked if the hotel honors Accor Ambassadors and the hotel refused that they are a franchise and they do not. The room given to us was Room 54 and it was good and hot as per the weather condition, 0 degrees outside. The beds were comfortable. After check-in and leaving the luggage in the room, I came to the lobby and I was working on my laptop when my wife informed me by phone that the bathroom was having a bad smell and the shower area had a problem, the water does not drain. I checked it and came back to the reception. The manager herself was available at reception and I informed her about the issue. She said she will get it checked. I went back to the lobby to work on my laptop. Despite complaining, the issue was not solved neither we were given any feedback. Next day I could not take a shower before going to work because there was plenty of water from the previous day. I tried to fix the drainage by myself but the water was taking a lot of time to drain. I left the hotel for the meeting. Around 11:45 AM my wife called me and said that the hotel wants her to check-out. I told her that I will send an email to the reception, if they come again tell them that I sent them an email and if they insist, come to the lobby with the luggage but it was difficult for her to come out with the luggage and the infant at same time. My wife had a health issue and it was not possible for her. I did not had local German calls allowed on roaming. I only had an internet SIM for EU. I excused the Deputy GM of the company I had a meeting with and sent the hotel an email. The Deputy GM asked me if there is a problem and I explained her that the hotel wants my wife to check-out now and being a Platinum member the late check-out is possible and I already had it discussed yesterday. She offered me to talk with the hotel directly using her mobile. She dialed the number and phone was on speaker. The phone was answered by the manager herself. I was told by the hotel that the hotel is fully booked but they lied, I checked later and several rooms of all categories were available including the one I stayed. I made a reservation for the same category of the room I am staying in just to show them that they lied and that the hotel is not fully booked. Reservation was late canceled as cancelation was free until 6:00 PM. I returned to the hotel as soon as I can and we checked-in to another Accor hotel. We were left a little confused about this hotel. My husband and I stayed here for 8 nights visiting family close by hence the reason we had to stay in this area. We had mixed feelings about the hotel but I would stay again. It appears this hotel belongs to a chain of hotels. I suspect that the write up of this hotel on booking sites is generic to cover all of their hotels. The internet shows it has a restaurant and considering the guests can come from anywhere, the word restaurant means different things to different people. In this case it meant the breakfast room and not somewhere you could have lunch and dinner. However the Italian restaurant next door Il Nouvo is amazing. I had emailed on two occasions previously to ask whether or not they supply any type of transfer from the airport as it is quite expensive. I never received a response. That was disappointing. I don't necessarily know if the request goes to his hotel or to the head office but it is poor poor service. We booked directly through the hotel, and it was reasonably priced for the area and included breakfast. On arrival we were treated great and service was great. There is a nice seating area in the foyer and at reception there is water with lemons for guests as well as a fruit bowl full of fruit. I note that staffing changed regularly at the desk within the time we were there so service wasn't always consistent. I'm not sure if there is an employment issue as we were told that some staff weren't familiar with the hotel as they were from another site. At one point I went to get a water, this may be trivial for some, but it hadn't been filled for a day. There were just lemons sitting on the bottom. I did ask reception if I could get some water. She filled it but it was the same lemons that had been there for 3 days. I note the next day it was refreshed. The bar which has drinks available was another mixed feeling. The reception staff operated the bar, it was situated behind them. I don't think it's their fault but they didn't know some of the drinks that were on the menu nor did they know how to make some of the drinks. One find young man was going to make an Aperol Spritz, with orange juice, as this is what the recipe said. We stopped him from doing that. There was a great little sparking drink they ran out of which was never replenished. Some of the drinks on their list, they didn't have. When a wanted a small sparkling wine, first time I was charged for the bottle and provided with the glass and the small bottle. Second time round served by a different staff member he poured me a drink and charged me the bottle price but kept half of it. Again, I don't think it's their fault, it's some sort of lack of training. This doesn't take away from their kindness and their effort. I stayed only two nights at a&o Berlin Mitte with Contiki, the stay was comfortable. The four-share rooms were very small and a bit tricky to fit our four suitcases. We also had a run-in with staff at the front desk. For a four-share room, we only got two keys. When a member of our group asked for a spare key, she was denied then given a temporary card and was rudely told to bring it right back - but how could she get back into the room to bring it back??? Others in our tour had the same experience. Besides that, the breakfast was great.

Hotel room was small and clean. Great quiet location.Large reception area. Will stop there again without hesitation. Will never book through Trip.com again. Both flights were cancelled. Ryan Air informed us for the departure so we changed to the night before arriving late and extra nights accommodation needed. The app still has us flying on the original date. The return flight was cancelled and the app stated we were checked in and even gave details of check in gate. This meant another night in a hotel and hundreds of pounds extra to fly the next morning. The app is useless. Book direct with the airline and watch Google as it steers you towards Trip.com automatically. The helpline does not answer the phone. Generic answers are useless just like Trip.com Please publish this!

This hotel has 5 room types, i booked an Executive apartment, which if the second top room type. I am a solo traveller, but liked the room layout and the extra space. I checked in on 30/03/22 for 3 nights and was allocated room 107. On opening the door i immediately thought it did not exactly resemble the pics i had seen for an Executive Apartment, it was big enough, but just not what i was expecting. The kitchen area was locked up with a shutter over it, which i thought strange. I literally just in the room for 5 minutes and went out exploring. I checked with reception about the kitchen being looked and they asked if i wanted it unlocked to use, yes, that's why i booked that room type, the fridge with freezer compartment for ice and cold drinks. I came back about 5 hours later and the kitchen was indeed unlocked. I was going to shower and looked for the bath robe and slippers which should be in the room, but nothing was there. it was at this point i was sure this was not the room type i had booked. I checked on my phone and looking at the specifications was sure i had been given the wrong room type. I went to reception to enquire and spoke to the duty manager, he printed off 2 pages to show the difference between an Executive Apartment and an Apartment (the top room type), although the same pics had been used to advertise both room types, there were some differences and he stated that my room was larger than most in the hotel. I was still unsure, but accepted what he said and i collected a bathrobe and slippers, the reason they are not already in the room was due to ongoing Covid restrictions. I still felt that i was in the room room type, it was large, but a lot of the room was taken up by a wet room, which was adapted for a wheelchair user and this made the room an awkward space with a lot of dead space. As it turned out, my flight home was cancelled and i ended up staying only 2 nights, so didn't pursue things further. On returning home i checked the room specifications on the website and room 107 is not up to the specifications advertised or as soon in the pics. two main reasons. 1) Executive Apartments have a sofa/sofa bed and can sleep up to 3 people, room 107 had no sofa/sofa bed and this room could only sleep 2 people max. 2) Executive Apartments have a separate seating area, a table and chairs where you can sit and eat, this is clearly shown in the pics too. This was not in room 107. The only seating was a chair at the desk and one other chair. I think room 107 is a superior room adapted for a wheelchair user, but was given to me as i was a solo traveller and dd not need the capacity to sleep 3. I wanted the sofa/sofa bed to sit on and relax, that's why i booked a room with that in it. I am only writing this review, as 3 emails have gone unanswered, one to novum hotels 10/04/22 and two direct to the hotel 12/04/22 and 20/04/22. Everything without a problem. Good breakfast. Elevator. Only a few parking spaces. You can park on the street. Pleasant surroundings of single-family houses. Perfect for a short stay. Quiet, no parties.

This is not my first time staying at A&O Berlin. I have been there prior and immediately after the pandemics too. During this time, the quality of the service has been steady and a good one. The staff rather amicable and prompt to help with any issue you may have. Sometimes things do not work as expected (coffee machine, contactless purchases) but they will guarantee your stay is a smooth one. Breakfast is abundant and provide several options. I only wish the coffee could be better, but all in all is not bad. Also, maybe rooms could do with a bit of cheering up colour, besides the ones provided by the curtains. What I like the most about this hostel is the consistency with the chain principles and the fact that you will find all you need for a good stay, even tissues!

The location and the hotel itself is great. Next time I will stay here. There were two points I would like to underline : first there was a small problem in the first room I got - as soon as I pointed it out, I got a new room immediately. A ver constructive way to deal with problems. I appreciate it. Second, the attitude of staff, they are helpful and explain you everything you ask them.

By the time this incident happened, I have already completed a 4 days stay in the hotel and was willing to increase my stay. For that purpose, I went to Mrs. Hausweld and asked to please consult the availability and the price of the rooms for extra nights. In response, I was told that the final price, including the city tax for 3 additional nights would be 350 euros with breakfast included. Consequently, I was willing to go along with that reservation and requested to pay by card. Afterward, then Mrs. Hausweld offered me the POS terminal to go along with the payment, and the amount ascended to 419 euros. Due to that unexpected difference, I kindly asked for an explanation and was told that 419 euros were the final price, and if I was not happy with it I would need to leave the hotel immediately. As a result, I kindly refused to pay that amount and asked her to please consult the price for two nights instead of three. In response to that, the front desk manager told me that no more rooms were available for me and that I needed to check out now and leave the hotel. Following that conversation, I went on Booking.com and reserved a room for the same days, without breakfast, and surprisingly rooms were still available. Next, I went to the front desk and asked to please pay for my booking Mrs. Hausweld looked at me in an unfriendly manner and told me she could not find any reservation. After 5 minutes of searching, she could finally open my booking. Then, although I already provided a credit card in my booking, she asked me to show it to her because she was not believing that it was not mine. I answered that the card was in effect mine and offered her to have a look, but it did not have any numbers on it. So she got ahead to request me to write down my credit card details, including the CVV code, on a piece of paper as ”a security”. Afterward, I was asked again by her if I would like breakfast or not, despite I selected the no breakfast option on booking.com. A moment later I was offered the POS terminal to pay by card, which stated an amount 30 euros higher that the price I booked the room for on this site. Due to the reoccurrence of the same, previous situation again, I refused to pay and respectfully asked her why the price was higher again. Mrs. Hauweld answered in a very disrespectful manner that I asked her to have breakfast included and that I was confusing her again. After that situation, I kindly asked them to speak with her supervisor. She answered, that she had no supervisor and was the only person working in the hotel for the whole weekend. That experience left me in complete disbelief of her professionality and her being in that important role in the hotel. However, despite that bad experience with that particular staff member, I would like to note that the other front desk managers were very friendly and helpful at all times.
