Usually, I am a very forgiving person but I had the strangest experience. While on vacation, my car battery seemed to have died, and so, we came in on a 1am flight, already late, tired and cranky to a totally dead car. I parked my car in a parking lot SURROUNDED by chain hotels (Marriott, Courtyard, Fairfield Inn & Suites, Doubletree by Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn, Hyatt Place, Sleep Inn, Hampton Inn). Truthfully, in the vicinity, there are at least 7 hotels to choose from and of these, three were Marriott properties. When we didn’t find any recourse, I decided to find a hotel room to stay the night, and figure things out in the morning. I have 3 young children! Would you believe all seven hotels had no rooms available?? None! And every single night manager was unsympathetic to my plight and brushed me off. I was not asking for a charitable donation - but the lack of care and customer service was disgusting. Tip: Hotels, when you have situations like this occur, treat people well. ALWAYS treat people well. Honestly, the easiest thing in this situation would have been to say, “Ma’am, I am sorry but our hotel is completely booked. Would you like me to call you a taxi to get to another hotel?” “Let me call another of our nearby properties and see if they have anything available.” This treatment made me feel like totally less than a human being. Update: my children and I spent the night in a parking lot surrounded by chain hotels.
