What a lovely place, stayed in reading room cottage. Well furnished and very comfortable. Great location to visit places in thd North East. Barnard Castle lovely as was Richmond. Food in thd Milbank just lovely. Easy to visit Whitby and York.

Second stay here for us in one of The Reading Room Cottages. This time we brought parents for a birthday treat. As before our cottage was beautifully furnished and very comfortable. Barningham is a pretty and peaceful village and we had a wonderful and relaxing weekend. On the Saturday we ate in the pub and had a delicious meal. The menu is small but everything that is on offer is well cooked and beautifully presented. All the staff are friendly and welcoming. I’m sure we will be back.

We stayed for 2 nights along with our two whippets. The room was delightful. Very spacious with a huge bathroom. Great bed and very comfortable. We received a very warm welcome from Karen, the manager, and all the staff were friendly and attentive. We ate dinner on both nights. Food was good at dinner and breakfast. On the second night we joined in the race night to celebrate St Patrick's day. Great fun! Lovely position in a very pretty village.

Staying in newsham in a cottage for 4 days and wanted somewhere to have a nice Sunday roast , picked this place because it looked quite nice on the website , but you never know if the food is going to be average , rubbish or fantastic .walked to the pub and it had a lovely cozy fire going quite a few people in eating roasts which is always a good sign ! Didn’t want starters as I didn’t want to fill up and ruin my main course ! I ordered the beef roast and my husband had the pork with crackling …… the food was absolutely divine the meat was plentiful and we left not a scrap on our plates ! The atmosphere and service was good too , will definitely be back as they have nice rooms that you can stay in !

Arrived here after a very wet motorcycle journey from Scotland only to be greeted by a super friendly chef , who was busy setting up the Argentinian BBQ ,and the manager ,who was busy interviewing staff. Given that we were much too early for the checking in time and also soaking wet, nothing was too much trouble. They sorted out our accommodation, got us lunch and helped us with recommendations for a lovely circular village walk. Had the best burger ever in the evening while sitting beside the log fire with a few pints of the local ale. The breakfast in the morning was cooked and served by the same chef who had been on duty the night before and cooked us a perfect Yorkshire breakfast to set us up for a day on the Yorkshire moors….. perfect place to stop. Will definitely be back!
