DoubleTree by Hilton Austin-University Area

Austin City Center
This hotel is a bit old and needs updating. The shower lacked hot water and the power outlets in the bathroom were inoperable. The headboard was old and tattered on one of the beds. Front desk employee was extremely pleasant and bubbly. Hotels are a bit pricey in Austin but if you want something a bit more current I recommend spending an extra 50-100 dollars. If you are in a pinch, this place is alright.

Clean, big room. Had a small issue with the toilet running and they fixed it quickly. Room service was fast and delicious. The restaurant was also quick and the food was good. The breakfast buffet was HUGE and great food. Mary Ellen helped us at the restaurant and she was amazing! She was courteous, helpful, and very friendly! Johnny Loredo was nice and worked hard for our group. Adrian and Fredencio made delicious food for us! The gym was a really nice one and the hotel was quiet. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel Austin Downtown Capitol

The room was very spacious, clean, and tidy. We got there a bit early but couldn't check in until 4, so left our bags and went to visit the Capitol Building, which is a short walk away. It is convenient for 6th Street bars as well, which were about a 10 minute walk. Valet parking was quick and efficient. The hotel is in a good location to walk to various restaurants close by.

Considering how expensive the room was, this is one of the worst hotel experiences we've ever had. 1) There is a fee for parking. This hotel is located well outside of downtown surrounded by apartments, business complexes and residential neighborhoods - there is a deluge of empty parking lots, yet this already overpriced hotel chooses to gouge its customers by forcing them to pay $10. This is not included in the charge for the room and must be paid separately via QR code. I wonder where that money goes. 2) The hotel is disgusting. There was trash piled up all over the place - the hallways, by the ice machines, outside of people's rooms, etc. There was also leftover plates of food outside of rooms that had been knocked over and ground into the carpet. Nobody had bothered to clean the place in days if not weeks. 3) The air conditioning was off in the hallways. It was late June. For those of you familiar with Texas summers, you can imagine how that might affect the smell in the hallways with the trash situation they had going on. 4) The fridge was broken in our room. Not a big deal for us initially as we figured we could just get some ice to keep our perishables cold overnight, but of course.... 5) Every single ice machine was out of order except for 1 which was out of ice. The first 4 Ice machines we tried either did not work or had a sign directing us to another Ice machine that was also broken. We finally found one that seemed to at least work but of course it was out of ice. We had to throw away our food. 6) The bed was broken. If I could upload a video I would so y'all could hear the clunking sound every time we sat down on it. Overall this was an incredibly disappointing and infuriating experience. We ended up paying close to $200 for an uncomfortable, disgusting hotel that is badly mismanaged, understaffed, and seems to be run by someone thirsty for cash and wholly uninterested in providing a decent lodging experience. I don't know how Hilton allows their brand to be attached to something clearly lacking in quality. Do not stay here unless they offer to pay you instead. Biggest ripoff ever.
