The room was a perfect size for us and the onsen was lovely after a busy day of exploring. There are also some beautiful grounds next to the hotel (open to everyone) and an easy hike to a nearby waterfall too (approx 10 minutes). "Hakone Kowakien Ten-yu is a truly comfortable and relaxing ryokan that made our stay very enjoyable. The staff were attentive and welcoming from the moment we arrived by car, and they promptly helped unload our luggage and delivered it to the hotel. They also assisted with carrying our luggage back to the car during check-out. The room was well-equipped, clean, and very hygienic, and the high-floor view was wide and beautiful. Breakfast and dinner buffet were both satisfying, with delicious food and a good variety of choices. The onsen was also impressive, with two levels of outdoor baths that are alternated between men and women at different times, allowing guests to enjoy both. The water park-style onsen area was a bit less impressive, but overall, this ryokan deserves a very high rating. The official site highlights its open-air onsen, private baths in all rooms, and well-regarded dining, which matches the strong overall experience here"

"Hotel is clean enough but they don’t provide service like we going to onsen there’s no water machine. Since our room at 3rd floor so we just approach the reception counter which is nearby the onsen. They just asked us to drink from the toilet tap water. Understand that Japan tap water is drinkable but they even not giving us any cup to collect the tap water. It’s not a serious issue but service attitude shown. Breakfast not allowing us to eat at the restaurant. We have to pick up from the restaurant and bring to our room to eat. It’s quite difficult as there are not only bread but cups of coffees."

"Fukiya is an old ryokan on the hill in Yugawara village. Water of Natural hot spring seems to be active and healing. Ryokan itself old but really good maintained. The place is extremely clean! Every tiny detail is cared of, you feel like it is titanic part of work to provide this level of cleanness. The food. This was the best food among visited ryokans. It is really the highest level. The chef-cook should be given Michelin or whatever, it is just unbelievable how everything was presented and cooked. All the food is the highest quality, absolutely delicious. I consider myself as demanding client, they exceeded my expectations regarding the food. The were a few things for improvement, though… I did not like the fact that there is no restaurant zone and all the food is brought to your room. They start preparing around 7 am, coming into your room and loudly announcing “good morning!” and the appearance of staff was never quiet ). Being after long night flight, this was a challenge. They close baths from 9:30 am to 2 pm, which limits your ability to use Onsen , even though it is the best time for guests to enjoy hot spring. The lady, who prepared everything in the room was nice but way too pushing and loud and a bit chaotic, we felt like we were being kicked out of the hotel (the lady even was running pushing us and our luggage out of the hotel 🤪), that they forgot to put our bags in taxi. Finally, we arrived to the train station without luggage and were upset that our visit finished that way"

"Fantastic location next to Gora Station with easy access to Gotemba premium outlets via bus& Cablecar to Lake Ashi. Kaiseki breakfast and dinners were thoughtfully planned and different each meal. So many free snacks and food at different timings. Private outdoor onsen was wonderful as well. Note: you have to queue for any of the 3 huts. Only thing we didn’t like was having to shower outdoors and the dated toto bidet. Other than that, perfect 2 night stay at Hakone."
