My husband and I just returned from our trip to Antigua. We stayed at the Hotel La Catedral for 5 nights. We stayed in room 4 that has the king bed. It didn’t have ac but we weren’t in our room much during the day. At night it cools off nicely. The only drawback I have with this room is the noise from the street. However, if you close up the windows and the shutters you are fine. The breakfast is wonderful along with the service Kevin provided. He was so kind and accommodating. Monica was at the front desk and arranged our shuttle plus offered other tips around Antigua. You can’t ask for nicer people. The grounds are beautiful and the rooftop view is very cool. We enjoyed our stay and this hotel helped make our trip relaxing!

We only stayed one night, but it was a great experience. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. Our room was clean and comfortable and the free breakfast and coffee was delicious. The location is perfect. I would stay again if we returned to Antigua.

Great place to stay with great location for exploring a great city. Great breakfasts were offered and the terrace on top had an amazing view of the 3 volcanoes. Staff were all very helpful. Really would recommend this place for anyone wanting to visit Antigua

This place is exquisite. The grounds are beautiful and relaxing. The service and staff are both excellent. There is air conditioning in the well-appointed and clean rooms. It is quiet. We got some of the best sleep we've had in forever here. The mattresses are great. In a beautiful courtyard literally dripping with orchids, there is breakfast made to order included for the price. Filtered water is readily available for no charge. While relaxing on the beautiful rooftop where you can see ruins and all the volcanoes surrounding Antigua, we could smell one of the Lenten processions before hearing it and walked down to the street for a close-up view. It's close to the Plaza and within walking distance to most everything, and I have a bad hip. While there, go visit A Ver Quien Soy Cafe for great coffee and amazing food. When we come back, we'll definitely stay here again.

Loved the staff. Mónica at reception will answer all questions prior to your arrival via WhatsApp. Their response time is impressive. Kevin is the night & Sunday back up; very King & helpful too. If the review just scored staff, location, security & interior courtyard, it would be 5 stars. However, there are other factors that reduced the rating to 4: pillows (!!!), breakfast & hot water. First, areas for improvement: Need better pillows! Others have mentioned it & on my first night, I felt it. The pillows must either be very old or of very poor quality; come on guys, get better & new pillow and change them often. The hotel is not cheap. The mattress is firm; I prefer firm. If you prefer soft mattresses, go elsewhere but ask first. The hot water is an issue: you need to run the water for nearly 10 minutes before you get close to having hot water (and it never really gets hot). Not sure if this can be fixed but get ready to feel guilty for letting the water flow for 10 minutes before you can get in. The water pressure is excellent. The breakfast is OK at most. I seriously considered going elsewhere and paying for breakfast, but didn’t. You order from a short limited menu, no substitutions. You get two plain l rolls, one pad of butter (not jam or marmalade), a small glass of boxed orange juice (that doesn’t taste like orange juice) and a Very thin omelet with some cheese and what appears like pre-fab ham or baco, but not both. There was an option for mushrooms but after the first day, I saw they were canned mushrooms so I skipped them. The redeeming feature was the coffee that was good (albeit not hot as it seems to be made earlier & stored in an electric coffee container). Now the good: the staff is exceptionally kind and helpful. Had the rating been of just the staff, I’d give it a 5+! The location is exceptional. You are less than a block from the Parque Central which is the hub of Antigua. The central courtyard garden of Hotel La Catedral is breathtakingly beautiful and well kept. There is abundant comfortable seating surrounding the garden making it a wonderful place to relax. The roof terrace is accessed by a spiral metal staircase. It beautiful views of the volcanos and tiled rooftops. There are tables & steel chairs on the roof terrace (but need to add seat cushions). Security is excellent. Although the front door is welcoming & open most of the day (leading to a beautiful entry hall with a massive crystal chandelier & greenery everywhere), the front iron gate remains locked & is opened each time you arrive. At night, the wooden front door is also locked; you must ring to be allowed in. There is always a front desk clerk to control access & provide any information needed.

My husband and I loved this beautiful little hotel in Antigua, and will stay here against the next time we visit. It’s very cozy and romantic and even has a cute little rooftop deck to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee or an evening cocktail. The location is perfect- less than a block away from the central park, so is within walking distance of pretty much everything. The breakfasts that are included are served Al fresco and you have multiple delicious options. They also serve Cafe Altura which I think is the best coffee! Oscar our waiter was a delight, we looked forward to seeing him in the morning. Monica at the front desk was also wonderful, so sweet and helpful. Don’t hesitate to book your stay here, you won’t regret it.

Great location, lovely ambiance and clean comfortable rooms, but the most important, this hotel provides excellent customer service. Monica (hope I remember the name correctly) at the reception graciously offered any help, answered any questions. Oscar at the restaurant served me with courtesy and professionalism, and the breakfast was delicious. I stayed there at the beginning and at the end of my Guatemala vacation. My first room (standardt) was cute, but very small without a window. It felt claustrophobic. Monica showed me how to open shutters on the door to uncover the glass part, and it felt better. When I returned, I was upgraded to a bigger room, which was absolutely amazing. There are cozy couches with blankets in the common area and plugs next to them. It was nice to sit outside under the roof and watch crazy rain falling on exotic plants in the garden. Definitely a place to stay when I am back to Guatemala.

Nice boutique hotel! I stayed here for a week with a friend. We got a good sized room with 2 queen beds. It was clean, comfortable, and well-appointed. The hotel has a pretty courtyard garden and seating in common areas (gardenside and rooftop). You can see the erupting Fuego volcano from the rooftop! A nice breakfast is included, with of course, lots of delicious locally grown coffee. Great central location - 1 block off the Plaza Mayor. The service was excellent - Monica, Oscar, and Kevin were always friendly and helpful. Lots of personal attention!

Wonderful little Antigua hotel - a block from Central Park and within a few blocks of most restaurants and shops! Our room was tiny but had everything we needed and was clean and comfortable with a modern bath and good shower. It was just me and my teen daughter so we were comfortable in the single queen room for 2 nights, but would get a larger room in the future. The garden and common area is beautiful and comfortable, and the included breakfast was delicious with several options. And their coffee was so good!! For perspective we usually stay at Porta Hotel or Camino Real in Antigua, but this was a last minute visit and they were full (or extra expensive this time of year). We are thrilled to find this little gem. Antigua is a noisy little city, and our room was on the street side, but it was surprisingly quiet at night. We loved our stay here!
