Hampton Inn Ann Arbor-South

We stayed at this hotel for one night, after spending two-weeks traveling through Canada and the United States on trains. Our train trip started and ended at the train station in downtown Ann Arbor. Because the managers of the Hampton Inn - Ann Arbor South were willing to allow us to leave our car in their parking lot before we boarded the first train, it was very convenient for us at the end of our train trip to uber from the train station to their hotel, stay overnight and then start our drive home the next day. Our room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast area was very busy on the Saturday morning when we were there - there were several youth hockey teams staying at the hotel that weekend, apparently. However, all of the breakfast foods were promptly replenished when trays were emptied and we had a good breakfast, in spite of all the activity in the breakfast area that morning.

Spacious and clean with great breakfast buffet. Easy to get to if you are not wanting to stay "on campus" and just want to explore Ann Arbor. Staff is friendly and hotel went through an update not long ago so consider this nice hotel for your next stay.

Unsatisfied with our stay for many reasons. The first reason is because we picked this hotel because of the promise of the shuttle to the Art Festival, and it was listed NOWHERE on the website that the shuttle was running ONLY two times (10 and 11). The fact that it is only running twice for drop offs and twice for pickups is NOT OK. Secondly, the person who checked us in (around 12:30-12:45 on Saturday) was not helpful or really that friendly. She was unaware of ANY other place around the very busy and large area of Ann Arbor that we could take a shuttle to get to the Art Fair (which there were at least 10-12 different places that we found prior to taking an Uber and having to pay to get ourselves to the art fair). Third, the room was $250 a night, which is an exorbitant amount of money for the tiny room that we stayed in. Fourth, the breakfast wasn't the greatest either. The water was not cold at all either. Fifth, in our room, there is nothing that makes this hotel special from any other. There is no real "hotel book" that you see in EVERY other GOOD hotel. We did see that there was the one that you could scan, but it barely told us ANYTHING. Sixth, the bathtub water pressure was slow and took forever to fill up. Seventh, there were no amenities in the hotel room/hotel to make it feel homey or home-like. There were no glass in the entire hotel to use according to the not helpful front desk concierge as well as very little cups or bathroom needs in our room. There was no table/chairs or even any place to "move around" in our room. Overall, we were promised a shuttle when we arrived there (That was a fall out and blatant oversight because NOWHERE on the website does it mention ANYWHERE about a time of the shuttle, which says to ANYONE who is staying at the hotel that the shuttle would be running THE ENTIRE DAY!) This is the MAIN reason why we picked this hote, which means we would NOT have picked this hotel had we known that the shuttle wasn't all day LIKE WE WERE PROMISED ON THE WEBSITE! The rooms were small, the breakfast was average at best and when we come to Ann Arbor Art Festival again, we will be taking advantage of other hotels (probably like the Hyatt because we saw that they were actually smart and competent humans and had a shuttle/bus running more than twice a day on what appears to be their busiest festival of the year). Very disappointed! The hotel is very outdated and warn out. It needs SIGNIFICANT updates to remain competitive (the elevator was VERY loud and the floors were not updated well-dirty and still old as well as the paint peeling in the hotel.) Unsatisfactory Stay :(

The hotel is ok for an overnight stay but not if you want to stay longer and have a relaxing vacation. The good: Off the hwy Free parking and breakfast In a quiet section - there are many hotels nearby. The bad: As soon as we enter the room I can feel the dampness of the room For the size of the hotel, only limited seats in the breakfast area. The carpets on the floor were duct taped. You can tell they are starting to peel. Tripping hazard for a person with walking issues. Ice machine on our floor barely working. I was able to get one bucket full the first time and on the second time dropped about 5-10ice chips. Had to go one floor up for better ice machine. There was a bug that came out of the shower spout when I turned it on.

3rd floor carpet in hall was held down with duct tape and had not been vacuumed in days full of lint and dirt. We had no Wi-Fi in our room. Breakfast area was full with high school sports team and there was no food available. Coffee area was dirty and trash was everywhere.

A solid Hampton Inn, which I would not call "very good" (4 stars), but would award 3 1/2 stars, better than average. Very convenient from the Detroit airport. Clean building, clean room. Friendly staff. Typical Hampton Inn breakfast - welcome but not a big deal. Dog friendly, with no policy for booking dog families on a separate floor from people without dogs. Their solution, if a guest is bothered by barking, is to move the guest who's bothered, not the dog. To be fair, this is a Hampton Inn corporate policy, but individual Inns don't manage it very well.

Kelly is an amazing employee with wonderful Customer Service! She answered all my questions and assisted with modifications to my reservation. Because of my interactions with her, I am really looking forward to the stay at Hampton Inn Ann Arbor-South.

We were overall disappointed in this hotel due to some mishaps with staff communication and housekeeping. In reserving our room, we’d asked for a quieter room away from elevators and vending. With several hockey teams at the hotel for the weekend, we were placed about three rooms from the elevator with two hockey families directly across from us and one next to us. Credit to the parents because although they all were often noisy in the halls, they were quiet after 10 PM. However, staff could easily have placed us further away. Our placement seemed to be a convenience for housekeeping which went badly awry. Our stay was for three nights -Fr, Sa, & Su. We’d asked for no housekeeping at check in and had a ‘do not disturb’ sign on the door. But on Sunday morning after the hockey teams checked out, housekeeping ‘freshened ‘ our room too. That involved rearranging some items and throwing away an item that was intended to be kept. If you consider staying, I’d recommend only one night to avoid housekeeping intrusions.
