We stopped for lunch at the Potters Heron and really liked the hotel so we decided to stay on the way back from our main holiday after I fell down the stairs at the other property and needed somewhere to recover as I couldn’t drive home. We had a lovely night’s stay with a very good meal in the gorgeous surroundings of the bar and restaurant. Rachel and Ljubmilla? on Reception were very welcoming and kind and helpful. The next night Ollie the Manager informed us that there was a big water leak in the area and as there was no water in the hotel, we would have to be relocated! But he knew I couldn’t drive and kindly arranged a taxi to take us to our new hotel - which Ollie found by making a lot of phonecalls, enabling us to stay far nearer than the original place that had vacancies - and a taxi back to Potters car park to collect my car when I could drive a few days later. In the meantime Ollie was so helpful, providing water and biscuits and telling us that he had arranged a meal for us at the new hotel, as we had booked to eat at The Potters Heron that night. He went over and above any duties as he generously drove to the new hotel after he finished his shift to bring the rest of our luggage in his own car! We were so impressed with everything he did for us and I would recommend Potters Heron very highly.

This is an overpriced and tired hotel that should be avoided. The bar is OK (at best), but the rooms are dark, tired and charmless. Even a chain hotel such as Premier Inn or IBIS would be a better option. Reception staff were OK, but when I complained about three hours of noise from other guests (midnight to 03.00) they had very little empathy. I phoned reception three times, but there was no reply during the night.

This place is very poor standard ,grouting missing in bathroom floor tiles, dirty toilet (dark brown stains near the back) not been cleaned in weeks, towels hard, breakfast you had to serve yourselves scrambled eggs had been in hot tray for sometime so was very dry with a hard skin on top. I would have expected waitress service at the price we paid £185.00 for one night. The room was not ready when we went to it, bed unmade, tee shirt in cupboard nappies on bed cups all around ( we were in No 6 ) just be warned over priced, poor service and not clean.

Stayed here with a wedding party whilst attending the ceremony which was thankfully held at the nearby Ampfield golf course; I can only imagine that holding the actual wedding at the potters heron would have ruined the day altogether. Firstly I agree with all of the comments around cleanliness, smell of mould, threadbare room carpets and most importantly being ridiculously overpriced. Seems the knew there would be lots of guests attending the wedding who needed a room, so they took it upon themselves to charge £185 for a double with breakfast. Absolute daylight robbery, disgusting breakfast (£15pp) served with hideous coffee, unconcerned staff. Do yourself a favour, if you need a hotel in this area DO NOT STAY HERE even if it means getting transport from further afield. Never Again

We stayed here while visiting Peppa Land and found the hotel overall to be pleasant for our needs while staying with a toddler. The room was ok, nothing fancy pretty basic and the bathroom could have done with a really thorough clean. Staff were all friendly. It would have been nice to have some more tea bags placed in the room for our second night without having to ask for them. Breakfast was nice, had quite a lot of options. I’d suggest visiting the Hiltonbury farmhouse for food which is about 10 mins away and the food was delicious.

I booked here as part of the poultons parks breaks, it looked really nice and just what we would need. I had come across all the bad reviews and instantly regretted my booking and was very nervous to arrive. Unfortunately all of the reviews were correct. Entrance smell of musty mould was overwhelming, water dripping in from the roof, wet damp carpets. Hallway to rooms carpet and stairs filthy. Room was better than I was expecting but was still not great, obvious visible thick dust at eye level, bathroom very old and grotty not cleaned well, bed very hard and uncomfortable, my 3 year old got a pull out bed that was okay and she managed to sleep fine, we didn’t, but she was our priority. Used the tea and coffe facilities and the next day it wasn’t refilled. Bathroom towels dirty and stank of kitchen food/chip fat? Very basic room not cleaned to a good enough standard. Evening meal was generally okay, food was nice but very slow service once we had been given food we never saw a waiter again, I went up and asked for more drinks that ended up not coming after asking twice. And they were very quiet. Breakfast was appauling, sausages like thick chewy playdough we took one bite and left it, there was a few options of cereal but not many, my daughter ate nothing I was disappointed there wasn’t even any yogurts for children considering children stay here. So we didn’t return for breakfast the next morning and also no one to be seen on reception for check out so just left our key on the desk and left. I am sad we spent our money on this, we travelled 5.5 hours to get there too. Overall it is okay. But more like 2 star.

Very nervous about staying here after reading some awful reviews, but much relieved to find that the hotel is not nearly as bad as described. The room was comfortable although not completely cleaned and there was a leak below the wash basin. We had a meal in the evening and the food was fine and the waiter excellent. The disappointing thing was that our bill had an item that we clearly had not ordered. This happens quite often at pubs and restaurants and of course you never know if it’s a genuine mistake or a try-on, but not a good end to the meal, whatever.

Olde world looking thatched roof pub On arrival with a group some were given rooms not cleaned or beds made up - my room had faulty bedside light which appeared broken and I unplugged for safety Dinner for our group, booked well in advance, was extremely slow although food ok when eventually arrived Steep steps up to dining area and to upper rooms Needs modernising ! Would not recommend Impressions

We stayed at the Potters Heron Hotel on Saturday, 31st August, for a wedding and were allocated Room 33. Unfortunately, our experience was far from what we expected, especially regarding the cleanliness and service standards. When we arrived at 16:00 to check in, we had to wait around 10-15 minutes while the receptionist tried to find the housekeeper to see if our room was ready. After failing to contact the housekeeper, the receptionist went to check the room herself and eventually told us it was ready. Upon entering the room, my wife used the toilet and was shocked to find visible excrement and urine stains. She had to use the facilities, but this was a disturbing discovery. It was clear the toilet had not been cleaned properly, and further inspection revealed a thick layer of dust at the back of the toilet, indicating it hadn’t been cleaned in some time. This was extremely unhygienic and unacceptable. We chose not to complain immediately as we didn't want to overshadow the wedding celebration for the couple, but the cleanliness standards were far below what one would expect. To make matters worse, when we checked out, we overheard another guest in front of us complaining about a similar issue with their toilet. Additionally, our friends also faced delays accessing their room, with a lack of communication about its readiness, followed by witnessing an argument between the housekeeper and the receptionist. Overall, this stay was disappointing. The cleanliness and level of service at Potters Heron Hotel need significant improvement. We would not recommend this hotel unless major changes are made to their housekeeping standards.
