Foxghyll Country House

Beautiful country house in a most picturesque setting. Large, well-kept gardens with plenty of areas to sit and enjoy the stunning scenery. Rooms are clean, well-appointed and spacious. Rachel and Paul are the most thoughtful of hosts and work very hard to ensure their guests have the best experience, including preparing rather fabulous breakfasts! With direct access onto Loughrigg Fell and an easy stroll into Ambleside, this is a real gem.

If you want a quiet retreat with a comfortable bed and a nice traditional breakfast this is the place for you. Scenic walk to Ambleside which is probably roughly a mile away.Good walking shoes advisable. Paul and Rachael are very pleasant with just the right amount of attention. Car Park is easy and safe.

Foxghyll country house was a perfect getaway. We were delighted to arrive at such a fabulous b&b in beautiful gardens. The house is full of history and our room was tranquil and we slept so well. The breakfasts set us up for our days of adventure. Ideally located for the lakes and Ambleside. The proprietors were so friendly and helpful. We are looking forward to another visit.

Accommodating hosts, exceptional service and an impeccable environment (inside and out). My daughter absolutely loved the well behaved chihuahuas. My wife took full advantage of the health & beauty services. We will definitely be staying again.

What a beautiful B&B! We have always stayed in cottages or hotels when staying in the Lakes so this was a first for us......Will not be the last for sure. We had a lovely 3 night break over Easter, Paul & Rachel made us feel completely at home in their home. We stayed in the Garden Room, which was super clean and very comfortable. The breakfast each morning was delicious, home cooked and plenty of choice to set you up for the day. The location was perfect, we didn't touch the car during our stay until we left, all the walks were accessible from the house, or walking into Ambleside to get public transport to other areas of the Lakes. One absolute bonus was Rachel's beauty room, I had a fantastic massage. Rachel is very professional and offers lots of beauty treatments, this Guest house just keeps giving. We will not hesitate to return for a home from home experience with lovely welcoming hosts. Thank you Paul & Rachel M & P

Just fantastic. An absolute hidden gem and a fantastic find. We have visited the Lakes for many years, and this is quite simply the best B&B in which we have stayed. The rooms are large and luxuriously laid out. Beautiful views. Beds are very comfortable. The views and the grounds in which the house are set are absolutely phenomenal. There is a beautiful 15 minute stroll along a lane to the main village of Ambleside where there are an abundance of restaurants, cafe's and shops. I could not recommend Foxghyll highly enough and will return soon.

This was our second visit to this incredibly welcoming hotel with a gap of several years between visits. It's still just as good, if not better. Love the location (lovely 15min walk into Ambleside with amazing views). We loved the room (Lots of little personal touches that made all the difference). Loved the fact that you could walk straight through the garden and up onto Loughrigg Fell. Loved the breakfasts. Loved that Rachel is now offering a full range of beauty and therapeutic massage treatments (I tried the massage which was good value, very professional and it worked wonders). Loved the family feel. Loved the chiwawas. Just a great place to relax.

We had a lovely stay at Foxghyll. We stayed in the 4-poster room which overlooked the garden and Wansfell. The room was spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable. Breakfast was delicious too - everything from croissants to homemade fresh fruit salad and an excellent cooked breakfast, what a way to start the day! After a day on the fells there is the option of having a cool beer from the bar/lounge area in front of a roaring fire or there is even the option of a beauty room (which my wife took full advantage of) massages, facials and manicures were available. We've stayed in many B&B's and I have never seen this before. I can't recommend Foxghyll enough, I know we'll be back to stay next year. Just perfect guys, keep up the excellent work.

Thank you to Rachel and Paul for an amazing experience staying in their lovely home. We thoroughly enjoyed Foxghyll experience and were very happy to be away from the centre of the busy but lovely town of ambleside. It is a lovely 15 minute walk to the centre of ambleside from the b and b which is just perfect after a meal. There is very quick access to the many walk and hike paths and beautiful lakes. The house itself is beautiful and they take care in the finest of details and the room was spacious, comfortable and elegantly decorated. The breakfasts were delicious and again they take care in making sure you have the best experience. The delicious food is sourced locally and is fresh and plentiful. They have a little common space you can also enjoy to read and their backyard is beautiful. We enjoyed walks, rest and visits around the area. Thank you for making our experience in Ambleside the best it could be and would highly recommend Foxghyll to anyone looking for a great place to stay.
