Hotel Amalfi

The hotel is a 4-minute walk to Amalfi Beach and a 2-minute walk to the Cathedral. close to tourist attractions You shouldn't bring your car here. You have to drive dangerously through a square full of people, and it is 300m from the hotel to the main building, so you have to bring your luggage and come back to the hotel. They said it was 25 euros for parking in the evening, and they told me to pay 35 euros in the morning. I ended up paying 35 euros. The hotel is on a hill alley, not on the road. You have to climb the narrow stairs with your luggage. The rooms are small and the furniture is old. Compared to the facilities, the Amalfi Hotel is outrageously expensive and outdated. There is no need to stay in expensive and backward accommodations just because it is close to the beach, and bathe in the palm-sized Amalfi Beach full of people. I regret it. There is a reason most tourists take accommodations in Rome and take a day tour of the south.
Villa Maria

A lovely B&B in the village of Pogerola. You will find it 400m above Amalfi up in the mountains. A great place to stay at with a lovely host/family that takes care of you. I don’t think you can find a much better place to stay at if you visit Amalfi. 12min away from the town with the bus up,up,up. Pogerola feels like the genuine Italy that som many search for. Villa Maria have a great breakfast, clean rooms and it’s so calm and quit during the days until the people in Pogerola comes out when the sun sets. A couple of restaurants, minimart and cafés gives you what you need. If you want to take a bath in the ocean just go to Lido Degli Artisti with the bus. Just hop of 4 stops before the town or take the boat direct to the beach(4 euros) This is a place we will comeback to be sure of that. Just sit down on the big terrace at “Cocktail bar” with an espresso is worth going back for
L'Antico Borgo Dei Limoni

We had the room right off the breakfast area with a balcony and beautiful views of the coast which was one of our top requirements when booking. The day we arrived we were tired and had just paid 40 euros for a 5 minute drive from the port so we were thrilled to have the option of dinner in! Dinner with wine, appetizers, and desert/coffee was served to us on our own balcony which felt wonderful. Ok, so our favorite part of our trip to Amalfi and this B&B was Alessio. He is the sweetest and most helpful person! I wish I spoke better italian but, we managed. We met another mother/daughter staying there who spoke italian and were able to help when needed and loved sharing our adventures when we had breakfast/dinner.Our room was lovely and spacious. The bathroom was fine and bigger than most I have had in Italy. Ask Alessio to let you try his home made Limoncello (one of the best I had) which he makes with the lemons growing on property. The only thing I did not enjoy at all was not the B&B's fault. The walk to/from buses or the cost of taxis are both awful. It may be worth hiring a driver on days you will be trying to get to multiple places nearby (we visited nearby Ravello and their Villa Cimbrone Gardens which I HIGHLY recommend). All in all, out of the 6 hotels we used during this trip, our favorite was Antico Borgo dei Limoni and it's star player Alessio. Will try to visit again someday.
Grand Hotel Excelsior

This is by far the worst run hotel I've ever stayed at. The hotel offers two shuttles into the city center that stops at the beach club they have. One of the shuttle drivers refused to drop a couple off at the beach saying ”its not a good time for the beach” making that decision for them and instead forced them to get out at the city center in a very humiliating fashion. In order to use the shuttle service you're supposed to reserve a space as there's only 8 seats. Instead of asking the people that didn't reserve a space to get out for the ones that actually did they asked us to squeeze in. Having 11 people fit into a van. The hotel has a €20 fee if you wish to order room service on top of the prices. The kitchen under cooks food and has a cross contamination issue with the breakfast omelets being extremely runny and tasting like seafood. We ordered a med-rare filet for one of our dinners and a well done version of a ribeye arrived. The waiter noticed that it was inedible after us sitting for about 20 minutes trying to get someone's attention and took it away and thankfully took it off the bill. The beds are thin spring mattress that feel about 20 years old and have the same give as a concrete slab. The electronic ”do not disturb” sighs on the rooms don't work so expect your room to be entered everyday. The waitstaff is atrocious. While having coffee outside on the lounge balcony a waitress walked up to our table in which we still had coffee in our cups and water in our glasses and bottle, started clearing the table touching her hands all over the rims of the cups. She didn't ask if we were done instead she stated, ”I take this”. We tried to insist we weren't finished but it was so disgusting that we just couldn't make ourselves stay. When I brought that to the front desk she said we could stay out there, defended the employee saying she thought we were finished which she couldn't know not having talked to the employee and then asked for my room number. You don't need my room number. I'm paying almost $700 a night. I don't expect perfect service but I do expect to be able to drink my coffee with my wife overlooking the water at 10:30 in the morning. Thats not unreasonable. They closed the beach club on a sunny 70 degree day. There was zero prior notice. Each room has a tablet that you can order shuttles or room service from but it also has push notifications on it. Instead of saying the beach was closed it offered a boating excursion for $1,400. If thats available the beach should be too. This hotel should have a 2 star rating and cost $150 a night for the service provided. If you're coming to Amalfi and wanting to stay here please heed my warning and don't. Spent the little extra to stay at a nicer hotel closer to town. I promise you won't regret it like us.
Albergo S. Andrea

It’s really two or three minutes from the pier, but there are ten steps at the entrance of the hotel. There are no other barrier-free entrances. It’s not friendly to tourists with large luggage. But the ladies in the hotel will help. I have not seen the male staff for a few days. The staff was busy and very enthusiastic. When the ticket was cancelled due to the weather, the wife in the store was very enthusiastic to teach me how to change the bus and train. If it weren't for their help, at least I would be stuck in Amafee for two more days. Thank you very much.
Hotel Luna Convento

This review reflects the experience of two well-travelled guests with plenty of world-wide experience on which to base comments. Overview....................this hotel is comfortable with a high standard of service. The building is unique and fascinating. It offers superb views of Amalfi which is only about 10 minutes gentle walk away. Reception..................extremely friendly and helpful. Reception staff speak good English. Requests are attended to quickly. The night porter was on hand immediately at 5.00 a.m. to collect our bags for departure. Our packed breakfasts were waiting for us. Room....................(Superior, Sea View) Lots of space. A large, sitting room sparsely furnished with antiques, opening on to a small balcony with a wonderful view of the bay and the town. Ten stairs up to the bedroom. Very comfortable bed and, again, lots of space. On the minus side, there was no dressing table or mirror of any sort in the bedroom. Sleep quality was very good. Quiet and effective A/C Bathroom.............well appointed but small. A good shower, plenty of hot water. Large bath towels, linen hand towels. Restaurant.....................again, the wonderful view and excellent service from smartly turned-out staff. A wide variety at the buffet breakfast. An interesting dinner menu, well cooked and well presented. Wine by the glass if you prefer. The cloister and courtyard...............................a peaceful area for drinks. Sitting with a glass of wine on a warm moonlit evening was just the sort of holiday memory we looked for. Swimming pool...........................80 steps down. Not a large pool but clean and not crowded. To-your-chair drinks service available. Beach..........the hotel does not have a beach. Finally..................be prepared for a one and a half hour (approx) transfer to/from Naples airport.
