Went for Sunday lunch 13th Oct 24, 7 of us in the group. Ordered our food and drinks, one of the party only wanted soup so the waitress was told to serve this when the main meals were served. An hour later I went and complained about the time it was taking to be served, bearing at the restaurant wasn't even half full. Finally after one hour and 15 minutes our lunches arrived but it still took another 15 minutes for the soup to appear. Food was nice but the service was appalling. PS..the chief needs to learn how to cook parsnips correctly.

Came for dinner. When we walked in there was one other table of 2 in the entire place… now we know why. Ordered a drink and my glass had lipstick marks round the edge. Asked the very uninterested young waitress if I could have a clean glass please. I’m fairly certain she took my glass away, wiped round the edge and gave it back. Ordered mac & cheese for my daughter which said on the menu it came with garlic bread, corn on the cob and veg sticks. None of this was on the plate. Asked the waitress if we could have the garlic bread and corn on the cob and she said ‘ oh ok’ couldn’t care less. I ordered the hunters chicken which was missing the onion rings it said it came with. I don’t understand why the kitchen were not serving what the menu stated? The lack of staff was unreal, waited so long to order pudding, ask for the bill etc. the only member of staff that was remotely polite or paid any interest was a lady called Paula who was pleasant. The hunters chicken was nice but the mac and cheese seemed to be from a tin. We won’t be returning again.

Large character bedroom and very good breakfast with plenty of choice. Lovely night in The Jane Austen room and really enjoyed the selection of fruit, pastries and cooked breakfast options. Full English, Avocado & poached eggs with a nice pot of tea set up for the day

Very pleasant hotel with friendly helpful staff. Room was a bit tired but clean and well equipped. This is an old building so rooms are sometimes odd shapes and my wardrobe did seem crooked but it was the ceiling! There is a lift but be aware it's over 3 floors. I ate there in the evening and it was a most enjoyable meal, they do a good range of gluten fre food. Breakfast was equally good with GF options too, cooked was served but range of continental options to help self. Would return if in area again and would eat here anytime I'm in town.

We parked in the "hotel parking" and checked in at the hotel. After our trip, we received a parking ticket for $100 for being suspected of not being guests at the hotel. We gave the hotel our car information! I reached out to the hotel to ask that they send a receipt of our stay to prove we were there on the date in question. My request was ignored. Thankfully, I found the physical receipt and was able to take a picture of that and send it with my appeal. I was disappointed in getting the ticket, but I realize mistakes happen. However, for me to reach out for help and to be ignored? That is lazy.

Booked in advance and found everything sorted for our arrival. Unfortunately there was no restaurant available that evening however there were plenty of options nearby in the town. Rooms were very comfortable with plenty of space for walkers carrying all their gear.

We stayed at the Swan for Saturday night to attend the Regency Ball at the Assembly Rooms. As we've often gone to the ball this was our 6th stay in the last five years. We had lunch which was great. Breakfast also very good. Rooms were clean and spacious. As befits an establishment dating from the 18th century the corridors to the rooms were delightful with twists and turns and changes in level as the hotel expands across the top of the neighbouring shops. Most of all the staff were great, friendly and helpful. Especially Daisy at lunch on Saturday and Olivia on the reception.

We had my sisters Kerry memorial drinks at The Swan for all our family and friends. The staff were superb, they couldn't do enough for us and the service both before and during the day was excellent. We would like to say a special thank you to Mandy the manager as nothing was to much trouble and she was so very kind and empathetic at this difficult time. The Swan provided a superb buffet that catered from all tastes. A huge thank you from the whole family to everyone the Swan Hotel.

Stayed here while celebrating a friend’s birthday party. Parking easy, check in smooth and lady on reception very helpful and friendly. So far so good. The room olde-worldy which was quite interesting with wonky floors and doors. Nice, recently refurbed bathroom with a top shower as well as a comfy bed. Despite marketed as a single room, it was a decent size! A good quality pint in the attached pub and a nice atmosphere. Great stuff. So why only 4 stars? Having had a bit of a late one and a few (quite a few) beers, I was looking forward to a long lie in (rare!) as check out on a weekend isn’t until 11am. Put the ‘do not disturb’ sign on the door. Fell asleep easy. Then around 8.30am, the LOUDEST CLEANERS IN THE WORLD started on the room opposite. They must’ve been cleaning that room for 30 minutes easy. Effing and jeffing with the best of them. Then the best bit. I heard one say ‘shall we try it?’ I thought surely not. The other said ‘yeah try it’. Then the thumping knock on my door and the dreaded sound of the lock opening. I said, politely, they should come back. There was some muttered comment and a loud huff as the door shut. Many might find this petty (fair enough) and yes it’s a slow news day hence the long review, but it’s a basic standard of service not to let yourself into a room with a DND sign on display before check out time!! Other than that, a pleasant place to stay in Alton.
