The hotel is nice, warm in winter and cool in summer. No need for air conditioning (no air conditioning). The temperature difference between morning and evening is huge. Be careful about adding or removing clothes. The town is quite cozy, but the train to London is too expensive.

Quiet friendly hotel, great to meet friends and overnight stay after a party/wedding. The room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom needs updating but was clean. The staff were friendly and polite even when there was a party of 30 guests all arriving within 30 minutes of each other. We returned after midnight from a wedding reception, requested tea and coffee while we chatted with friends until gone 2am. This was not a problem at all. The breakfast was good with a selection of hot and cold food as well as any dietary needs. Would definitely go here again. If you do not drive, not a problem, the train station is 5 minute walk and bus stops outside.

Location: A quiet hotel, within walking distance to the town centre and railway station. There are two museums in the town both free and worth a visit. Its only a 10-15 min drive from hotel to Jane Austen's House Museum; Chawton House and Gilbert White's House and Garden. There is a waitrose just 5 mins walk from the hotel. Room: We stayed on a room only basis for 3 nights. The room was on the ground floor but very dusty with cobwebs behind the curtains. We had issues with no hot water in the shower for two mornings even after we spoke to reception after the first morning. The heated towel rail also didnt work, which we found out after returning from being out all day only to find the towels hadnt been changed and were still damp on the cold towel rail! We had no windows ino ur room; but we had doors which opened onto a little patio area. This would have been great to use if the chairs were clean and not damaged.

We book a double room at this hotel got there late in the evening very helpful receptionist and was allocated to room 36 loft room . Very disappointed no lift and had to climb many sets of stairs with the luggage and with my disability. Got into the corridor before enter the room and it was already like an oven. The room was very hot and stuffy . I could not opened the window and had to call reception and he managed to open it no AC just a small fan . Terrible night …..not happy at all

Booked an “accessible” twin room (room 2) for my son who uses a normal sized powerchair and his PA. He couldn’t get in the ensuite because the toilet was in doorway. So he came into mine next door, (room 1), where he could just about get past the toilet to line up for transfer. But then there was no hot water and the wet room flooded when I turned the shower on from a leak from behind the tiles under the sink. So neither of us able to have a shower. Turning circles have not been considered and for him to get out of either room we had to flatten ourselves and hold the heavily sprung doors back at an awkward angle while he squeezed past and ran over our feet. Not enough room to turn out of the door so he neatly got stuck in the hallway. I told the lady on checkout and she couldn’t have been less interested, and certainly didn’t offer any recompense.

Reasonable reception but heading your way room 41 realised that I could not keep my curtains open as guests could see in from lounge walk through. Other than this good stay I did not have breakfast but had snacks and used the bar. Staff here helpful

Extremely caring service for a family surprise birthday party. The staff all went out of their way for us all, thank you. There was a lady in the morning who's name I forgot to take who was also very caring and helpful with one of my daughters who is ASD and was struggling a little with her sensory needs. To her id like to say again thank you, people like you restore your faith in humanity. Nice food evening and morning, a little disorganised in the dining room when it came to clearing tables but we know how it can be when it's busy, the set up just needs a re think maybe. The rooms were warm and fairly clean, I say fairly because it's an old hotel so the windows need some mould removal care and the carpets needs a good shampoo or replacement but that's all time and money we know. Only other thing to mention is bank holidays restaurant timings, you need to mention to guests it's Sunday service as it wasn't clear on breakfast time servings as Monday times usually differ to weekend times.

The room allocated was the last in the building, not a huge issue but the building was empty when we arrived, that telling me that there wasn’t many booked. This was confirmed at Breakfast, not busy at all. We went to our room and found it dated, again not a big deal but could have been maintained better. The shower head isn’t attached to the pole, it doesn’t stay up so you have to hold it over your head. When I shaved, the plug isn’t attached and found it difficult to remove once I had finished. There was hot water, apparently a bonus for us as other guests didn’t have any at all this morning! We went to a lovely local pub, The Railway, great beer and friendly. After we decided to return to the hotel for our evening meal. The chef was behind the bar and abruptly pointed out that many choices were not available, apparently the freezer isn’t working! The waitress looked embarrassed and actually advised us to eat elsewhere anyway! Now, that’s crazy, an employee advising residents to eat elsewhere. We ended up at Waitrose for sandwiches, good advice from the waitress. It’s not all bad, the bed was really comfortable and the room was warm, so no complaints there, until…..Breakfast, now this is Faulty Towers revisited! Considering the meal had only just started, they had run out of eggs, I was told there was only scrambled available and that took a fair amount of time to replenish, I see the chef chatting at the reception, so he clearly took his eye off the ball. The breakfast buffet looked as if the bomb squad had a go at it, it was messy and dry. Sausages were stuck together, tinned mushrooms and tomatoes that could have passed off as sun dried. The staff knowledge was poor, no guidance of the routine as you would expect as you turn up, it was a bit like the crystal maze where you had to workout how to get the butter, juice and the glasses. I’m extremely disappointed in this hotel, the chef has an attitude and clearly lazy. The front of house staff aren’t helpful, plus if you have a cold, please don’t come to work and stand there sneezing and blowing your nose in front of customers, oh and if you have to, wash your hands after!! We are glad this is only for one night, I wouldn’t recommend staying here any longer, also choose somewhere else to eat.

We stayed here for our wedding break 19th April to the 21st Would like to thank them for upgrading us but our room was so cold even with heating on . Couldn’t have a hot bath or shower due to water being warm . We was given free jugs of coffee but when we came back from going out for a meal we asked for coffee again to be told we should of never of gotten them free that isn’t what we do and we have to pay . Even tho the manager was the one who said no one pays for coffee due to be paying guessed . Couldn’t speak to the manager about this as he went home . The lady was very rude to us . But overall the rest of the stuff went above and beyond. We do feel also feel the pros out weighed the cons . Overall enjoyed our stay
