We don’t quite understand the negative reviews. This is one of the loveliest places we’ve stayed, mainly due to the exceptional hospitality. The room I was given was both beautiful and spotless, blending the charm of a Victorian-era bedroom with the comfort of a modern bathroom. They also have a beautiful Garden space. to enjoy a nice evening, which we really appreciated. We had a stunning view of the sea and golf course, and waking up to a glorious sunrise was a treat. Like many boutique hotels, it seems to be run by a small team, which may explain some minor imperfections, but everyone we met offered excellent service and warmth at every point of contact. Perhaps our younger perspective contributed to our positive experience, but we genuinely appreciated the kindness shown by the staff. The hotel has an intriguing history as a 500-year-old building that once hosted the likes of Charles Dickens and King George. Despite some dated common areas and carpets, it seems to be undergoing renovation, which is understandable given its age and its "*******" reputation. Breakfast was a traditional full English, delicious and hearty enough to fuel our long beach walk afterwards. While the coffee was lighter than I prefer, the overall meal was satisfying. After attending an event at Alnwick Gardens, we returned late, and the coded entry system made it easy to access our room. A big thank you to Sam, Martin, and their small team for a wonderful stay. Best of luck with the continued renovations! We hope to return and see this place flourish. Cheers!
