Alicante Gran Sol

Chose hotel for position as it is perfect to wander along the attractive esplanade, round the marina, old town, beach and castle. Loads of places to eat, bars and coffee shops. We paid a little more for a premier room with sea and city views, wow it was worth it! The view was spectacular of the castle, sea and marina. The weather was warm enough to sit out on the balcony and take it all in. The beds were firm but comfortable and there was a comfy sofa to relax with a cup of tea, kettle provided, after some exploring. Breakfast was very good, with a good selection of cooked and cold options, the pastries were delicious and definitely fresh each day. We were really pleased we chose this hotel and this room. Staff were always friendly and helpful. Well worth a visit to castle, though only walls, more great views and an easy walk along front to the lift that does take you right to the top!

Our first break just the 2 of us for 15 years! The room was huge and clean and lovely! Best breakfast weve had in any Spanish hotel that weve stayed in! The restaurant was incredible but you do need to book! I would have appreciated a bar area separate from the restaurant area, more of a lounge bar.

The hotel is in a great location to explore Alicante. Our rooms were ready when we arrived in the evening. We had two rooms booked and they were originally on different floors, we did request them on the same floor and after some thought we were allocated rooms on the same floor. Check in was easy. The room was not of a four star standard, mould in the bathroom, tiles that were damaged. The beds were incredibly hard which we found ok, but some may not. The bedding consisted of a sheet, light duvet and sheet, I do wonder if they wash the duvet after every guest as this is not fully concealed. There was often a smell of drainage within the hotel, especially on the landing areas. Our room had a door that opened, you could walk out onto the dirty balcony. Breakfast was good but it is a small restaurant, with not many tables for four. The staff appeared to be struggling to keep up with clearing tables. The restaurant bar on floor 26 has some amazing views and is a reasonable price. The worst bit was the noise from the lifts, at first we thought someone was scrapping furniture across the floor in the room above us until it happened continually. It was just the noise of the lift and due to it being a city hotel guest were using the lifts day and night. We reported some issues on checkout but at no part during our 5 night stay did any member of staff ask if we were enjoying our stay.
