Backpackers at 1770

The hotel has really great vibes and is in an excellent location. Unfortunately, the majority of people staying actually work there and had their own little groups. So it was incredibly cliquey. One thing really disappointed myself and my friend though; we left a bag of brand new shopping on the side in the kitchen, two hours later most of it was gone apart from a bag of crisps. It was a full bag of shopping and very obviously unused, not just a donation to the free for all cupboard. I understand that we should have labelled it, we completely forgot, however I find it very harsh that just a couple of hours later mostly everything was gone, including our dinner for that evening. We are backpackers on a budget and about to go on a day out tomorrow leaving at 7am, we are left with no food and a brand new bottle of big sunscreen was taken too so we are kind of screwed. That has really put a dampener on my experience in this hostel and I won’t recommend it. We even heard a member of staff say they took some shopping left on the side… perhaps next time they could ask around, or an idea could be a box for unclaimed things left for 12 hours, then it could be donated to the free for all box?? I did appreciate the nice events hosted by the staff in the evenings though.. all in all, super disappointed.

This hostel is the best in Australia in my opinion, not because of the beds or anything like that, but becase of the people and the atmosphere. Oscar (the owner) is a super nice guy, he always treats guest with curtecy and respect. I stayed for a cupple of month and even worked a little as a cleaner (in exchanhe for living). Check this place out at least all you backpackers. Best of luck! -Larsikenz

Can’t rate this place high enough. The atmosphere and staff are amazing. 10/10 The rooms are large and comfortable. The group seating is great for meeting new people and the kitchen is large and very clean.
