DONT BOOK 13-25th March - fiesta time in los Gigantes! - TUI won't tell you, you will get no sleep although not the fault of the long-suffering hotel staff/rep. After many stays here, I was so appalled they accepted bookings, whilst knowing we wouldn't get any sleep that I've voted with my wallet and have booked the Barcelo with Jet2 next time.

This was our first time to Tenerife and we did have an enjoyable week . We arrived late and were escorted to the restaurant where we found soup, a cold plate of food ham, cheese, frittata, salad along with a free drink which was a lovely thought. Check in quick and easy. Our first room was not what we expected but the following day we moved to the 7th floor where we had spectacular views. we had water and fruit left for us. Tea and coffee making facilities also. Room was cleaned daily. Could not fault breakfast, plenty of choices. Evening meal was varied from curry, roast, paella, pasta, fish, salad, soup, desserts . I'm a little picky but still managed 3 courses daily. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and work very hard. Plenty of daytime activities to keep you occupied. My bug bear was the ritual if you wanted a sunbed. Some were so territorial, so apologies to those whose beds i reserved before they arrived. Quite comical. Overall the hotel has a lot going for it, quiet location but within easy reach of other resorts either by taxi ( located outside the hotel) or by bus at the nearby bus station a short walk uphill. Some part of the hotel are tired but updating must be a relentless task. We met plenty of returning guests so this alone is a good advert for the hotel. There was nothing i could fault during my stay and if i returned to Los Gigantes i would certainly return to the hotel.

Restaurant staff were amazing, friendly, attentive . Food was phenomenal with plenty of choices every day. This was our 3rd visit, the last visit was March this year and the 1st visit was October last year. I emailed before to ask for a high floor. I know this is not always a given but was given a 1st floor. I asked for a high floor and was told to come back the following morning. Came back was told to come back the following morning. Ended up keeping the room. It was fine but we prefer being higher. The biggest annoyance here is the queuing of the sunbeds. But this is the guests fault. When I came in March the queues were not as bad. A lot of repeat guests were there when I was there and the “system” is get down super early, line your towels up and sit down and wait for the doors to be open. I was coming down just after 7am every day so I never got any rest. The food could have been better. Some nights were better than others. One night it said rabbit was on so we ate out that night. However the beef, the paella and chicken curry were all lovely. For breakfast the omelettes were great and there was a good selection. However the coffee and orange juice need improving. Service at lunch was slow. Lots of staff seemed to just be waiting around not doing anything but then it would take ages to get served. Apart from the negatives it is a lovely chill out and I can see why guests return every year. The staff are an asset to the hotel. Entertainment wasn’t too bad. There was a pool party last year what happened to those? I heard they were stopped as too many guests complained. This was a highlight last year and I know many TUI Blue hotels have them. Also checking in was really fast and we arrived late and a cold plate and drink of choice was provided for us. Our room was always cleaned to a high standard. Also it was good to see the gym now has air conditioning. Would I go back? Not sure. Maybe if I got a good deal.

Our 4th visit and 2nd this year. A great location with fabulous views. We book a village view as the sea view rooms get too hot and we found you can’t use the balcony at certain times. Most village views have a partial harbour and sea view especially if you are on a high floor. Every time we visit we ask for a high floor and each time we are allocated a low floor and generally have to wait 24/48 hours to get a high floor room. Our first room allocation 3026 wasn’t great. The room had seen better days, furniture was worn and bathroom was very shabby, the floor of the shower was very worn and not terribly clean. Laminate floor was badly chipped definitely not 4 star standard. We moved rooms 2 days later to 8008 which was much better, however the shower cubicle could have done with a thorough steam clean. There was also a weird smell at certain times when the shower was used. The hotel is showing signs of wear and could do with some updates which lets it down more 3 star than 4 star. The hand dryer in the ladies toilets by the pool hadn’t worked properly in the 4 times we have been there. There is still a faint sewerage smell at certain times of the day in the ladies pool bar toilets. What makes this hotel is the food and the staff. The restaurant is big and has various food station areas with a great variety of food. A special shout out to Aylene for her excellent customer service and great personality. You would have to be extremely fussy if the food at the hotel doesn’t suit you. What lets the restaurant and indoor bar/entertainment area down is the lack of air conditioning. There is air conditioning in these areas but the hotel doesn’t use it preferring to open windows which doesn’t work! The choice of activities is really good. We did keep fit classes, aqua fit, dance classes, quizzes, wine tasting, cocktail making, guided walk. So many activities. A special shout out to Endija and Carla. We laughed at the 7.35am rush for the opening of the pool at 8.00am. Life it way too short to make this a priority on my holiday. Perhaps those people have nothing else in their lives to think about but this daily activity. Pool towels are provided for a 10 euro deposit which you get back when you return them at the end of your holiday. Towels can be replaced on a Mon/Weds/Fri. Despite a few criticisms we hope to visit again next year.

This Hotel has certainly gone down hill. The Dining room staff were only interested in you having a meal and leaving. They cleared dishes away while you were still eating. The food which was on display, as an example of the evening menu, was dried up and lay there for the duration.I would not class the Restaurant as 4 star food. More like 2 star Canteen food. The specialty Restaurant was included for us for one evening. We cancelled due to the ridiculous menu on offer, which couldn’t be understood nor would you have chosen anything from it. £50 per couple was the going rate, if not included .They only served between 6.45pm and 9pm, one sitting only. Their refurbishment is tacky and cheap with plastic chairs and dull surroundings. We have stayed here twice before and returned as it was a wonderful Hotel with fantastic food and staff. Never again.

Super hotel and staff set in an incredible location with a surrounding area that is not for those with restricted mobility. It is so popular that many of the guests are returnees year after year and I can see why. The reception, restaurant and cleaners do an incredible job keeping the guests happy providing a first class experience. One area that does need improvement is that of the entertainment and an outdoor bar service which would seem to lose revenue by having little use in the evening by guests who instead frequent the local bars and restaurants due to patchy table service and a vaping policy that pushes those who may be trying to quit into a smoking area. The Los Gigantes is a quality hotel that I would recommend and happily return to.

If the true test of a review is ‘would you return’ then the answer is yes. We enjoyed our week but there were lots of issues that are so easy to fix that unfortunately it can’t be a five star review. Plus points Location, climate, food (largely), tennis courts and some staff. Minus points Administration, tired air conditioning in rooms, tinned fruit, slow lunchtime service at the pool bar We booked, and paid extra, for a specific room, but on arrival were told it wasn’t available because of a ‘leak’. We were given an adjacent room, albeit were advised on arrival at 10pm that it wasn’t yet available. We were given a drink and asked to wait in reception. Ten minutes later we were in our room and had unpacked and settled in. At 11.30pm we were disturbed by another couple entering our room who had also been given the same room! We politely explained the situation and they left. Two calls from reception followed asking why we were in that room! Not a good start. Things did get better though. Some of the staff were superb. Carla and Dario in the events team. Aleyne in the bar, Dario our waiter to name a few. Some of the evening entertainment was very good, some not so. We went full board plus and didn’t realise until we arrived this isn’t all inclusive, just soft drinks, one beer, house wine and water. Despite the problems there are multiple reasons people return regularly, just unfortunately for us too many issues to give a five start review.
