"First time staying at a youth hostel in China and overall it was a good experience. Pros: - Location is excellent. Just across road from cuihu. Lots of great coffee shops and bars within walking distance. - Cafeteria in the hostel had good coffee and a decent range of beers. I didn't personally eat there but other guests said the food was good as well - Big public area where you could socialise with other guests - Facilities were reasonable for a hostel at this price. Cons: - There were not a whole lot of activities organised by the hostel - Sound proofing is not the best. You can pretty easily hear things next door, upstairs or even from outside. - The atmosphere is a little hit or miss. I stayed here for 7 nights. The first few days, there were not many people that wanted to socialise but the last two nights, I met some great people and had a great time that I extended my stay by an extra night. I think the main issue with the hostel (and this is not necessarily their fault) is that some Chinese travellers choose to travel cheaply and the hostel offers a great price, so during my stay there were a lot of elderly people or families with young kids, which was not what I was expecting when staying at a youth hostel. These people mainly kept to themselves and I feel dampened the mood at the hostel. Overall, this was a solid hostel, but I would have tempered expectations when staying here if you are expecting a very social youth hostel."

"Exceeded my expectations! It was bustling with people and very lively, with excellent recreational facilities. They even had a pool table, free laundry, and a dryer. The room was exceptionally clean, and everyone was very considerate of the rules. The dining area in the lobby was spacious, with a sofa lounge and camping-style chairs. All in all, it was a fantastic trip. I'd definitely recommend booking their guesthouse – no regrets! I'll be back next time."

"Such a lovely place to stay in Kunming. The staff speak English, and the location is perfect, everything is easily accessible, from the lake to Kunming Old Street, Nanping Pedestrian Street, and even a local fresh market nearby. What I really loved is that it’s a mix of both Chinese and international travelers. If you’re traveling solo, you’ll probably make friends here in no time. I was genuinely surprised to see people of all age groups just hanging out and having a great time together. One small thing to note, there’s no elevator. So if you’re carrying heavy luggage, getting to the top floor can be a bit of a task. Smoking in allowed in the common area, a warning is that you will be passive smoking. My favorite part has to be their cafe and restaurant. After a long day, it was so comforting to not worry about finding food outside. They’re open until 11 pm, and the food is genuinely good. Morning coffee was sorted too. I already miss my favorite Oreo drink, both mocha and chocolate milk, please share the recipe😭. We only stayed here on our arrival and departure days, but ended up eating at their cozy restaurant most of the time. They also have some nice vegetarian options. If I ever come back, I would definitely stay here again. I absolutely loved the place, the vibe, and the people. I was also really curious about the story behind the owner after reading the little note in the menu, but couldn’t find more about it. Wishing you good health and happiness.🌷"

The Desti Hostel provides a great place for travelers to relax after a busy day. The Desti Hostel is an ideal choice for travelers who want to take in the sights and sounds of Lijiang. Lijiang Railway Station is located approximately 15km away while Lijiang Sanyi International Airport is 34km away. There is no shortage of things to see in the area, with the Jinmao Snow Mountain Language Garden - Die Water Plaza, Xueshanhuahai Amusement Park and Lijiang Snow Mountain Town all nearby. In their spare time, guests can explore the hotel's surroundings. If you are looking for a convenient place to stay, our guests have told us that this location is excellent. This hotel is a popular accommodation for guests traveling alone.

"The location within Shuhe Ancient Town is super convenient for exploring both Shuhe and Baisha Ancient Towns. Getting to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is also an easy taxi ride. However, the room environment was really subpar. The soundproofing was terrible, and the room door was heavy and noisy to open and close. Since there's no air conditioning, you have to open the window for ventilation, which just made the noise even worse. My room was near the shower area, and people were showering late into the night. Someone even blasted music loudly in the middle of the night, and no one seemed to care. It woke everyone up until one of the guests finally shouted for them to turn it off."

He speaks English very well and also gave me good advice for my next trip. Since I didn't have much time to explore the surrounding area, he also kindly took me early in the morning to see the Double Dragon Bridge. It was truly a pleasant stay. Thank you!"

It's super convenient for exploring the night market and renting a car to go to Erhai Lake. Being away from the main street's traffic noise, I slept incredibly soundly at night. The dorm beds come with full blackout curtains, individual reading lights, and lockable storage, so you can draw the curtain for your own private space. The mattress is soft and silent, so turning over won't disturb your roommates. The entire place has air conditioning and separate wet/dry bathrooms, and everything is meticulously clean. "The room was very cozy, with all the amenities! The host was incredibly kind and helpful, we spent a lot of time in the common area and even though we don’t speak Chinese, he made sure to include us in the conversations and made us feel welcome and comfortable. The location is great, just outside the Old Town and walking distance to the bus stop to reach the station or the monastery. Just a quick note: the room doesn’t come with heating (as advertised), just a bed heating blanket, something to keep in mind if you come during winter, as it gets quite cold. But considering how affordable it is, it’s great value for money."

"I really like the room that came with a private balcony. I stayed four nights here. I think it was worth it. It is extremely well placed. I could easily walk to ancient city or the bus depot that goes to Xizhou on my own but they had a shuttle every hour. My absolute favorite thing was their food. The lunches and dinners were so delicious. It was 25¥ each meal, and you can enjoy very delicious dishes, even local dishes. I was impressed."

It's a hostel with a very homely environment. The manager will invite you to drink tea with him, the courtyard is a very chill area to hang out in and even spend all day to the sound of flowing water and surrounded by plants. There is a kitchen available too, and the manager brings water from the well daily for the use of the guests. The dorm was comfortable and the lower beds have curtains but the upper ones don't. The manager sometimes organises events for the guests, such as the time when we went picking mushrooms and visited a local market from where we bought more mushrooms which were cooked for dinner, all at a very good price. The location is excellent, just 1 minute walking to the south gate of the ancient city. I will not hesitate to stay here again when I come back to Jianshui.

I wouldn't recommend the backyard area; the front yard I'm unsure about. The common areas generally aren't very clean. After showering, the floor is always soaked, and while I'd wipe it up myself, others don't, making it a slipping hazard. Cats can enter the rooms, and I've seen big bugs. Kitchen fumes drift into the rooms, and there's noise around 5 or 6 AM that wakes you up. Getting a taxi in the ancient town isn't convenient. The only upside is that the young people are friendly and happy, but the overall environment is just average for a hostel.

An experience that exceeded my expectations! Facilities: The room and bathroom were very spacious, with a separate wet and dry area. You can check the photos provided by the owner for details. Environment: It's a private, independent property, directly opposite the bus station. You can see the mountain view just by opening the curtains – check out my photos taken on a rainy day. Service: Huge thanks to the enthusiastic owner! We arrived at 9 PM on a rainy night, and they were still willing to provide us with a simple meal. The breakfast was also delicious.

Location was great that it was a walk away from the Kunming Railway Station where I needed to be to leave the city. I liked how it was near a lot of food places! The volunteer Evens was an interesting person to talk to when I learned about his background in what he does as an occupation and where he is originally from in China. The owner Winni was a nice person as well and I appreciated and enjoy her and some of the other guests that cooked for us the night that we had a big dinner. Thank you for being part of the chef crew Winni. Everybody who stayed at the place was respectful and considered towards one another in the way that they conducted themselves. Was able to go along with the rules of this hostel because it fit my daily habits. Nobody had any habits that bothered me. Not really into the hostel type of stays, due to lack of privacy. Was just happy to stay at this place since it was pretty much right at the doorstep of the Kunming Railway station where I can catch my train on time where I wouldn't end up getting lost in the city which in turn would end up missing it. The only negative thing that I didn't like was that the bathroom did not have bath towels and just regular hand towels where I would not be able to dry myself very well after showering. Because of this I didn't want to take a shower at this place and the fact that these towels were used repeatedly from other guests, which made me feel uncomfortable wanting to use it. Would come back to this Hostel again if I happen to have to come back to Kunming again where I needed to be near this train station to catch at train there.

I had a fantastic trip there! The place is lovely, built all in wood, with plants and cats all around, and a nice rooftop with a view on the mountains. Everything is clean and it's very silent at night. But the best part came from the guests, I felt like in a family. Unlike my previous hostels in Yunnan, most guests could speak English, which helped feeling closer. A lot of people are staying there for weeks because of the great atmosphere. I stayed only two nights but felt sad to leave everyone.

I went for it for the price, but still some lacking things surprised me. The bed was hard, the walls in the room were mostly dirty and stained from both human use and mosquito splatters. There was rarely someone available for inquiries and the outside toilet was a big downside, since it was quite cold, especially at night. Having a kitchen to use was definitely a plus and the rooftop areas were pretty nice, although messy. I was sad to see all the animal they have spend the whole day caged or chained 😔
