Turangi Leisure Lodge

Very noisey! Rooms are right by SH1, traffic and trucks going by ALL throughout the night. Mattress is super hard and horrible pillows. Unfortunately, no sleep on our much needed long holiday weekend. We asked to move rooms to other side of property noting rooms were available at the time, but were declined. Very basic room amenities, tiny tv with no Sky TV. Went to local tavern to watch the rugby World Cup. No daily servicing or towel replacements. Room smelly and we kept opening doors to let air flow through. Could do with a deep clean and refresh. Pool is freezing, but useful for anti-inflammation leg soak or if you’re a overheated person. The upside, handy to the town centre for dining options and to get groceries. I did the Tongariro crossing, the hike was more difficult with lack of sleep. Had we of known we wouldn’t have booked there. So if you want sleep or a restful stay, suggest avoid units 1-9 and ask to try a room on other side of property. Disappointing, but giving a genuine review so travellers and hikers are aware.
River Birches Lodge

A beautiful property based around a central Lodge with separate rooms. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming with the hosts creating a feeling that you are house guests rather than customers. Breakfast is served in the main building and includes continental style and cooked breakfast using local ingredients. This also serves as the lounge area with a very comfortable nook with open fireplace and seating. We were in the Dutchess Room, which had a comfortable king sized bed, storage and a lovely bathroom with tub and separate walk-in shower. There is parking on site and a charging point for electric vehicles.
Tongariro Lodge

I’ve just spent the weekend at Tongariro Lodge for a wedding. I had a wonderful time. The lodge is located in a beautiful and quiet setting next to the river. The staff made me feel very welcome. I stayed in a chalet. It was very clean on arrival, spacious and very comfortable. All I could hear from the chalet was birdsong and the sound of the river. I had a number of lovely meals at the lodge’s restaurant. The food was excellent and the service warm and attentive. The lodge also provided catering for the wedding on the Saturday. The canapés and dinner were fantastic. I’d highly recommend Tongariro Lodge to anyone who wants a peaceful and relaxing weekend away from the city. It was a great location for the wedding too. The lodge looked after us all very well on the day.

I went in the early summer season, the price is super high, the owner is very enthusiastic, the supermarket is very close, and the room is clean.
Turangi Bridge Motel
4/522 Reviews
We stayed at the Turangi Bridge Motel while doing the Tongaririo Crossing and were very happy with our accommodation. The units were clean and tidy, our hosts were friendly and helpful. We decided to eat on the second night at the in-house restaurant and bar and were so glad we did. The bar had a surprisingly good selection of drinks on offer and the dinner menu was great. One of our party couldn't stop talking about her fabulous Orange Roughy meal. Thanks so much and we will return when we next have to stay in the area.
Judges Pool Motel Turangi

It has been 5+ years since we stayed here, and we still find it a comfortable spot. It isn't the flashest motel, but is well laid out and in summer with front and back doors open it can be pleasantly cool without needing the air conditioning (and it does get VERY hot in Turangi mid-summer). Clean and comfortable with all the items we needed in the kitchen. The WiFi is okay, but we did experience some glitches in the evenings. It is a short walk to the river or in to Turangi for food and takeaways. We find it a good spot and will stay there again if stopping in Turangi.
