The lady...is a Lady and she was kind attentive generous and I felt completely welcomed...it was as if I was staying at a living relative. Although the room was small the bathroom was ample. The room gad a query nook area by one of the two window areas...the view of the water was calming and simple, I could hear the birds in the shady trees outside my tall romantic window setting. The whole place was spotless and fresh smelling ...the bed comfortable. All looked new. It was near to everything. If I have to want anything it is a disposable shower cap. She allowed me to take her tea-Kettle to my room for my convenience which added to my comfort. Although we did not speak the same language we understood each other. I would love to return again soon. Thanks much 😊

The location is excellent: although it is not so close to the main attractions of the city, it is in a region with several transport options, as well as supermarkets and food sites. The price is a big difference, with good accommodation with excellent room at an excellent price. Even without air conditioning and making much warm during the day, having the windows partially open at night was more than enough to have a good night sleep. It needs attention to details on repairs that are not very expensive and, because they have not been done, they end up giving a bad look to a room that has been renewed recently: the tower is not very fixed in the movie, a curtain cannot be collected and the shower is not well fixed on the support during the bath. The service is quite welcome, however, only for additional information, we had problem in requesting to leave our travel bags before check-in, because we would still arrive in the city morning: I know that this is not a obligation The hotel is a hotel with a view to the hotel, but one of the reasons for booking this hotel was just because we received the confirmation that we could leave our stuff in the hotel before check-in (which takes place at 15:00). However, as a rule, there is no one at the reception before 12:00 (i.e. until that time it is never possible to leave his things there) and on the day we were there would be no one even until 15:00; we just thought that there could have been prior warning of this. the fact that we have been able to take a closer look at the problem of the environment is that we have a greater need to take a closer look at the problem of the environment.

On a busy street that feeds one of the main bridges over the Modego River, the hotel is at first intimidating to locate & park at, and unloading luggage. Once inside, the rooms are standard EU class but it is the staff that made the difference for us. Isabel in particular was extremely friendly and helpful with advice- free parking at several spots, free shuttle van, possibly the nicest laundromat in the world (!), and restaurant options. She and the staff were tremendous, so I would recommend a stay there on tour of Portugal. Cheers.

We were very happy with our two-night stay in Studio no. 12, which was spacious, tastefully appointed and had everything we needed. The host/manager Ricardo was very solicitous, regularly checking that we were satisfied and asking whether we needed anything. Our only real bone of contention had less to do with Sophia Studios and more to do with the location, with noise from the [busy] street outside and nightclubs and the like penetrating the fully closed windows and shutters. That aside, the location is excellent, within walking distance of everything you'll want to see.

I cannot overstate how wonderful it was to stay at this charming hotel. The staff, in particular, were terrific. They went above and beyond in every conceivable way. The breakfast was gourmet, our small apartment was comfortable and clean, and since we were there for a full week, they even did our laundry for us as needed. One of my suitcases was so heavy that we couldn't carry it up the two flights to our apartment but they took care of that. One staff member even helped with the proof-reading and editing of a narrative I needed to deliver in Portuguese. For those who are not keen on huge hotels, this is a perfect choice.

Silvia was our receptionist and go-to person. She was truly AMAZING! She is a delightful young lady who was our contact person, greeted us, carried our luggage ( the stairs were a bit difficult for me), called taxis for us, brought extra blankets, prepared breakfast, recommended restaurants and sites in Ciombra…there was nothing she wasn’t available to do. She was always smiling and friendly. While the property is on a large piece of land and is farm like it is NOT in the countryside. It is in a suburban area 10-15 minutes from Coimbra. We were specifically attracted to being in the countryside so this was a disappointment. Even with Apple CarPlay, our gps system, we missed the street several times. The name of the street is not well marked. The property is behind a lovely gate and parking is readily available. This was a plus. Our room was very large ( bedroom, separate living room, bathroom, entry space)and had lovely views overlooking the grounds, the pool and distant mountains. We booked on *********** “ Family Room with Balcony” 441 sq/ft. and stayed Sept 29-Oct.1. The room was stylish and very clean with big windows overlooking the grounds. However there were many flaws. There were no glasses for water in the room, no water provided, no conditioner in the shower, no robes or slippers, only 2 very flat pillows, one set of towels. We were offered use of the communal kitchen but this was not inviting. We were shown the refrigerator and told there was a different shelf designated for each room. Too much like a college dorm or work fridge. We could use the kitchen as we wished but did not avail ourselves. Silvia did immediately bring us an extra duvet when we found the room too cold. She did offer to turn the radiators on but we were afraid we would find it too hot. There was no thermostat for us to control. There were enough outlets for adapters and charging cables. We did not expect USB ports as is common in Portugal.wi-fi was good. The worst was the shower. It’s a beautiful walk in with a rain shower but on the first morning my husband had cold water. I had scalding hot then tepid then cold. And yes…we do know how to turn on and adjust the water. On the second morning we both had COLD showers. The hair dryer was terrible…barely dried my short hair. The room was not serviced. We came back after a long day exploring Coimbra to find an unmade bed and wet towels. So we made the bed and used wet towels… The breakfast, again Silvia was the star, was in a small dark room with a buffet selection on a narrow sideboard. There were decent choices…cheeses, bread and good coffee and scrambled eggs. One table was so close to the sideboard we couldn’t access those foods without being rude. We did take taxis into Coimbra . We thankfully had a hotel address card to show drivers for our return trip. Even with that, both drivers had a difficult time finding the property. People have their own travel styles. This property has prove

I loved this little accommodation, and thought it was just right for a short stay in Coimbra. We arrived in the afternoon and the owner was waiting for us with our key, and it was so easy to get right out and explore since we were right by the bridge to the old town. The next day we walked to the university, and we even managed to find a laundromat close enough to walk to and wash our clothes. The only reasons I give it a 4 instead of 5-star rating is that the bed was very hard and uncomfortable, and the air conditioner did not work very well. The weather was pretty warm, and we just couldn't get our room to feel that cool. I would still stay here again, because the location and the other positives outweigh those two things.

Solar Antigo Luxury Coimbra

During my travels I always choose hotels with pools, as I like to relax in them in the morning and in the afternoon after exploring. That was also the case here in Coimbra. But, shortly after booking that hotel with a pool by Mondego river, I cancelled it when I saw pics of Solar Antigo. I sacrificed the pool and did the right thing. Solar Antigo is an amazing boutique hotel with a luxury touch. It consists of series of rooms in several historical buildings in old Coimbra, on top of the hill, close to the University. Each room is individually designed with amazing attention to details. Every inch of the room is carefully planned and beautiful with stylish furniture. We booked the ordinary room, but got an upgrade for a two level Jacuzzi room (probably God's compensation for that pool). The staff is so kind and welcoming - they waited for us almost until midnight to arrive. They provide free parking by the hotel in that tiny uphill street. Amazing views of Coimbra from your window. Breakfast is served in a basket and delivered to your room in the morning. You have 2 TVs, AC, bathrobe, coffee machine and a refrigerator with complimentary cooled bottle of champagne and couple of beers - unbelievable and unseen for a price of around 70 Euros a night for two people. The only problem is finding this jewel, specially at night when we arrived. But once there, all Coimbra attractions are in a very close walking distance. I must emphasize in terms of quality/price/location, Solar Antigo is one of the best hotels I've stayed in my 30 years of travel being in 500+ hotels in over 80 countries on all continents.
