We are frequent visitors to the Dales and the Lakes but this was our first overnight stay in K.L., I doubt very much that it will be our last! The Royal is charming and characterful. Our room was highly satisfactory with pleasing decor and a view overlooking the market square. Ample cupboard and drawer space. The snug/resident's lounge is very comfortable and a quiet refuge with daily papers and reading material. We had dinner in the hotel on our first night. An extensive menu which was not over-pricey and the food was good. Breakfast was equally good with plenty of choice beyond the ”usual suspects”. The staff were friendly and service was first rate at dinner, but a little less so at breakfast. We totally enjoyed our stay and would definitely re-visit. There is no private parking for the hotel as is the case for virtually all hospitality places in the town, but with a little planning and walking short distances I managed to avoid paying for parking throughout our stay without breaking any rules.
