"This hotel has a lot of character. Even though it's a hundred years old, it doesn't feel dated at all. I didn't experience the issues with poor soundproofing or creaky floors that some other reviews mentioned. The service was excellent! There's a free shuttle to and from the Kusatsu Bus Terminal, though you need to call to book it. If you don't have a phone, you can ask someone at the bus station to help you contact them. There's also complimentary coffee and snacks on the first floor. All the little service details really made us feel at home. The public bath experience was great; it wasn't crowded, and both the indoor and outdoor baths were very comfortable. There was even water and essence available at the hair-drying station. The room was spacious, and the futons were laid out in advance in the evening, which was very comfortable."

"Because the hotel has more than 100 years of history, so it looks like the room may feel a little older, initially I was a little unaccustomed, but when you observe a little more carefully, you will find that the staff is very careful to organize every place very well 👍 Dinner/breakfast time is up, when you walk out of the room and slowly start approaching the restaurant step by step, you will start to smell the aroma coming out, feel particularly hungry🤤, their service attitude is really 100 points good, so I am very satisfied, for me personally, I like to stay in a traditional Japanese hotel, this is my second favorite inn😍"

"We had a wonderful stay at Urakusatsu Tou, a brand-new hotel that truly exceeded our expectations. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly escorted by the staff. Although parking was allocated at a private outdoor parking area, the hotel thoughtfully provided an escort service, making the process very smooth and comfortable. The room was spacious and beautifully designed. Communication was easy as the receptionist spoke fluent English. The hotel also provided pajamas and daily clothing, which was a lovely and convenient touch. The onsen experience was outstanding—definitely one of the best we’ve ever had. You can immediately feel your skin becoming smooth after soaking, which made each visit incredibly relaxing. We stayed for three nights with both breakfast and dinner included. Meals were served à la carte, and the menu changed daily, surprising us every time. The food was delicious and very filling—we were completely satisfied after every meal. That said, there are a few areas we hope the hotel could improve: • During winter, the room felt quite cold as the air-conditioning heater did not function properly and was unable to warm up the room. • Breakfast hours could be extended a little later for guests who prefer a more relaxed morning. • Providing a choice of pillows would further improve sleeping comfort. • The blue indicator light on the room’s control panel remains very bright even when all lights are turned off, which can be a bit distracting at night. Overall, this hotel offers excellent service, comfort, and an unforgettable onsen and dining experience. Highly recommended, and we believe it will be even better with these small improvements."

"It should be regarded as the best hotel in Yixiangbao. It has a history of more than 400 years, but it does not feel old. Several soups are great. The service staff are professional and thoughtful. The small robot in the lobby is super cute. There is a small restaurant on the 19th floor to the entrance and exit of the stone steps, three private rooms, open at 8-11 every night, fried dumplings and ramen are delicious. The people in this place are friendly and hospitable. Udon noodles are local specialties, and each one is delicious; the ancestral stone pot curry rice of the Black Boat House is particularly delicious; Sara's Terrace Arraiya 's package is very homely; Lungo's own roasted coffee is the best to drink, with a bunch of rice cakes is too fragrant! The matcha shop next to the ladder is already very popular, but the clerk is so enthusiastic. When I fell down, I immediately took the first aid kit and ran out to deal with the wound. I was moved! The nearby original gallery is also worth a visit, in a pasture with lots of sheep."

"For your information: we stayed at the hotel right after it reopened in June. Some things were certainly not quite finished yet, so they might have changed. Check-in via tablets was relatively quick, provided we had registered online beforehand. There is a reception desk, but unfortunately, the staff usually hides behind a curtain. Their English was basic. The rooms themselves were pleasant, and the spaciousness was a particular highlight. Everything was very clean. The amenities, including a smart TV, toothbrush, and shampoo, were also excellent. The only slight drawback was the small bathroom, which, compared to the room, was quite small and dated (but still clean). We didn't find the Japanese breakfast very appealing, as we didn't particularly like the taste. Aside from that, the selection was very limited; it was basically just what was shown in the picture, which was disappointing. The onsen experience at the hotel was also very interesting. The women's and men's onsen each had a simple indoor and outdoor pool, both of which were very nice. There's a small chill-out area with a free drinks machine. There's also a sauna, which unfortunately is only open to women in the mornings and was connected to the men's onsen in the afternoons. In conclusion: Overall, it was a pleasant hotel stay, especially if you spend a lot of time in your room and enjoy onsen. However, the breakfast and the sharing aspect of the service were somewhat lacking. We got it for €33 per night, which made it good value for money."

Guest User
I chose this hotel because of the brand, having stayed at their Izu property before. The Kusatsu location, however, felt a bit lacking. Also, 'low floor' didn't mean a lower level in the main building, but rather a room in the East Wing instead of the main building. The Ctrip prices were quite erratic! While they did refund me 100 for the price difference, that refund came at the cost of not staying in the main building! The evening buffet was decent, but the steak station was always empty, with only a few pieces on the plate and no fresh ones being brought out after cooking.

We stayed in Naraya House for 1 night and it was perfect. The staffs were all very kind and helpful that I am truly grateful for all their assistance given throughout our stay. We had a suite, rm no.206, it was stunningly amazing! I only know I am booking a suite with a beautiful view of the yubatake and private onsen. I didn't know it's a gigantic duplex suite with the best view of the yubatake! The room door opens to a western style living and dining area that fits with a set of sofa for 6 and a dining table for 4 with 2 benches. To the left of this western style area is 2 double beds, a walk-in closet and a toilet. I could see Japanese syle beddings in a cupboard which I believe they would be made when the room is booked for more than 2 persons. Facing the sofa is a TV panel. Behind the TV is a Japanese style sitting area with a coffee table and a view of the yubatake. The view is picturesque. There you can also find a stairs going down to the suite's private onsen bath. It's actually on a balcony overlooking the yubatake, the same gorgeous view as in its Japanese style sitting area above, just without the windows, ie closer and clearer picture of the yubatake without reflections. But be aware ppl on the street can see u too, as you can see the windows r just next to 7.11 The meal provided was fantastic. I particularly enjoyed the freshly made sushi. The salmon roe was just so fresh that they were actually shining like marbles. All the ingredients used are high quality. My kid, who is usually picky on food, was pleased with the menu. He already wanted to come back again. Next time, we will stay here for more nights in order to better experience the beauty of Kusatzu. Ps I usually don't bother to write a review, I am doing this one in return to the hotel's great service and hospitality. Thank you and until next time~

Kusatsu itself is a magnificent place. The hotel is located right in the center. The room type was traditional with futons, and we had a mountain view, which was stunning in the morning. I particularly want to highlight the breakfasts and dinners; the selection was absolutely superb. Highly recommended!

The hotel is a bit of a drive from Karuizawa JR Station, about 35 minutes, and there's a toll fee. However, the scenery along the way is beautiful. Shiraito Falls is about 10 minutes away. The hotel parking lot is ample and very convenient. The hotel rooms are very spacious and comfortable. The hot springs are both indoor and outdoor, with an orange-brown color and a mild odor. Unfortunately, the outdoor hot springs don't allow for a view of the sky. The breakfast and dinner buffets offer a wide variety of options and are delicious. This hotel has a very resort-like feel and I'd definitely return if I had the chance. We were in Hoshi Onsen 25 years ago, and we loved it so much that we decided to visit it once more during our recent Japan trip. Hoshi is one of the most traditional and older onsen in Japan, with more than one hundred years of history. Walking in its corridors or lingering in Hoshi-no-yu (the main indoor bath) you can really feel as if time had completely stopped and as you have plunged in a remote era. Yet it provides any possible comfort. Important renovations have been made, but always with great taste and respectful of tradition. Dinner is excellent and also the open air bath is really beautiful. The surroundings are also very nice and deserve a walk. It is a bit expensive, but no doubt worth the price
