5-Star Hotels in Penang, Malaysia

This was the best hotel we stayed at during our trip to Malaysia. Check-in was a breeze, and the room was spotless. It even had a kitchenette with a bar, a washing machine, swimming rings, laundry detergent, and dish soap – everything you could need! They also upgraded us to the 33rd floor. The rooftop pool on the 36th floor offered a panoramic view of Georgetown. It was truly an amazing experience. There are plenty of food options, attractions, and convenience stores nearby, making it super, super convenient! I'll definitely be staying here again. Highly recommended!

Hidden in George Town, Penang, is a century-old heritage hotel, which was the most pleasant surprise of my trip. The hotel is divided into the Heritage Wing and the Victory Annexe, both largely preserving their original historical charm. From the antique elevator to the brass key wall, every detail tells a story. Teak staircases are carved with Malaysian motifs, and the rooms feature hardwood furniture alongside Fujian blue and white tiles, creating a stylish blend of East and West. The infinity pool offers direct views of the strait, and at sunset, the orange glow reflects on the water, allowing you to fully soak in Penang's unique seaside Nanyang charm. The century-old corridors are steeped in history, having hosted notable figures like Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe, and Sun Yat-sen.

I recently stayed at Gurney Bay Hotel and had a wonderful experience overall. The seaview from the room was absolutely beautiful, and the buffet offered a fantastic variety of food choices. The staff at the lobby were also incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the hotel's location is highly convenient with easy access to nearby transport. The only minor downside was the room service efficiency; although the staff answered our phone calls very promptly every time we requested items, we had to call back a few times before the items were actually delivered to our room. Overall, it is a fantastic hotel, and I would definitely recommend staying here!

We always stay in this hotel or the next one every time we visit Penang. As usual, beautiful and nice and clean room. We got a cake for our anniversary. Breakfast is good and not crowded like the other hotel. Best location next to 2 shopping malls. We went for seafood buffet in the other sister hotel and at senior citizen price. Fantastic offer. Will definitely be back. We requested for late checkout because don't want to go too early to airport. They gave us 2 more hours which was fantastic.

First off, the breakfast offered a great variety and tasted good, definitely worth ordering. The location is super convenient, especially with so many restaurants right downstairs, and transportation is a breeze. The hotel facilities are comprehensive; I particularly appreciated the body lotion provided in the room. It's a lifesaver when the weather is hot but the room is cold, so kudos to the hotel for such a thoughtful touch! On a different note, after swimming, when I went to shower and wash my hair in the communal bathroom, I found the hair conditioner was completely out and hadn't been refilled promptly, which was a bit inconvenient. Overall, I would still choose to stay at this hotel again.

I want to give a special shout-out to Shane, the Guest Relations Manager. He was incredibly hospitable and went above and beyond to accommodate our small requests. On the day we checked in, the hotel's air conditioning system wasn't quite up to par for the higher floors, but the hotel immediately addressed the issue and Shane quickly arranged a new room for us. While it might sound like I'm exaggerating, I genuinely experienced the excellent service from Marriott and Shane – I'm very satisfied! I forgot to take photos right away, so I'll express my feelings with the few I have. 😎

Service: 24h frontdesk. No late check out after 12pm. Room: Smelly toilet (huge shame). Loud outdoor music at 722am-8am. Staff claim this is uncontrollable/cant be helped. Clean. Great bed and pillow. Noise from other rooms depend on luck (our stay did not have noisy neighbours). Has water dispenser. Location: Average. Hotel lobby for drop off and pick up point is a long one-way loop and not very convenient. My advise is to alight at the heritage block to save time and taxi money. Pool: Excellent roof top pool with excellent views of three sides of Penang. Downside is there are limited lounge chairs and usually packed with families and toddlers. No sauna/steam room. No outside food and drinks allowed. Gym: Great but didnt use. Price: Good. Lift: Crazy stupid position of buttons and order.

This hotel was the most comfortable five-star hotel we stayed at during our Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Penang trip. The room was very spacious, with a double vanity in the bathroom, and both the bedroom and bathroom offered sea views. The hotel facilities are very new, and they even offer turn-down service. They also provided plenty of complimentary water. The check-in service was excellent. My only minor disappointment was that with so many Chinese people in Penang, there wasn't anyone at the front desk who spoke Mandarin. Overall, I was very satisfied. The only downside was that the elevators and hallways didn't have air conditioning, which was a bit uncomfortable. I would definitely stay here again, and I highly recommend it to everyone.

I stayed for three nights, and the hotel's design is innovative, the decor is unique, and the location is excellent. All the attractions are within walking distance, and if you get tired, you can even take a floral float to admire the ancient buildings.

We stayed in Ansgana wing one bedroom suite. It's born with a magnificent Seaview but unfortunately obscured by the hotel layout like the balcony concrete egde at living room and the missing of curtain binder to gain 5-10% of Seaview. The sofa and TV are setup by the window side both at the living room and bed room but during day time the sunshine is so strong that you have to draw the curtain if you want to watch TV but at the same time your completely lose the view. The breakfast buffet offered were standard and I have no comment but the only obervation is the crows are the only diehard fans of the hotel food as they tried their best effort to grab the food from the table even in front of the guests! The only element that made our stay a good one is the hotel staff. Starting from Cika who handled our check in, our room attendant Masum, the big and tall guy at the buffet restaurant and also the lady who took care of our check out. All of them were efficient and effectively attending and responding to guests needs and tried their best effort to help us during our stay and kindly send my compliment to them especially Masum. Thank you Masum you deserves to be praised. Well done! Ansgana management in reading it's your team that saved your position that still got a 5 points except the food! In conclusion Ansgana tried to pack herself as a resort but quite unsuccessful as after check out we headed to Shangri-La Rasa Sayang and you will experience the layback and relax feel in a resort!
