"This was, without a doubt, the most satisfying hotel of my trip to Shanxi. When I booked it, I saw some reviews saying the hotel was a bit old, which made me a little apprehensive. But once I arrived, I was immediately impressed by the strict and orderly management, and every staff member was incredibly dedicated. The room was exceptionally well-maintained, spotlessly clean, and all the facilities were new. The bed was very comfortable. The bath towels were sealed in bags, and the hand soap was from Herborist. The only minor point was that the TV was a bit small, but we didn't really mind. The breakfast was incredibly rich and delicious; both adults and children enjoyed it, and we even had ice cream. The hotel's swimming pool wasn't large, but it was very clean, and I swam there for two consecutive days. Yingze Park is right next door, and you can enter and exit with your room card. In the mornings, my child and I fed the fish and went for a run, experiencing the leisurely lifestyle of Taiyuan residents. It's also not far from Liuxiang Food Street, but we didn't walk there due to the rain, so we'll save that for next time. Overall, highly recommended!"

Hotel near Ancient City Tourist Cultural Area,Datong
"My biggest surprise on this trip to Datong was definitely this hotel. As a hotel enthusiast, I really couldn't find much to fault (though the pool water wasn't quite warm enough – a minor imperfection, I suppose). First off, the location is superb, right by the ancient city wall. You step out and the city wall is right across the street, and Southeast Yip is just next door. Taking a stroll in the evening couldn't be more convenient! Everything is close by, and getting a taxi is easy. Secondly, the hotel itself is stunning and impeccably clean, perfect for photos. The hotel feels like a work of art, beautifully designed, blending classical aesthetics with modern design. It also does an excellent job of protecting guest privacy; outside photographers can't just wander in. It's incredibly tranquil; even though it's fully booked every day, you rarely run into other guests, offering great privacy. I slept wonderfully. Then there are the top-tier amenities. All the luxuries you'd expect from a high-end hotel are here. Everything in the minibar, except for the red wine, is complimentary – there's so much you can't possibly drink it all. Every day, they offer different fresh fruits, nuts, and a goodnight dessert, plus complimentary coffee. The complimentary afternoon tea is very generous and aesthetically pleasing. The breakfast selection is extensive and delicious! And the service, it's simply outstanding, scoring almost full marks for attention to detail. There are plenty of staff members, and they respond incredibly quickly. They even deliver takeout to your room. If I had to pick a flaw, it's that it's quite expensive. But overall, it was definitely worth it. If I come to Datong again, I'd choose this hotel without hesitation."

Hotel near Liu Xiang/Bell Tower Street,Taiyuan
The Shanxi Hotel (Shanxi fandian) is located in the city center, at the north of Wuyi Square. The hotel is 15km from the airport and about 1.5km from the railway station. The 306 guestrooms are arranged with up-to-date facilities and are comfortable and clean. The hotel boasts a large conference hall, which can hold up to 500 people. There is also a business center, a shopping arcade, a beauty salon, a billiards room and a dancing hall. The hotel restaurants provide good Shanxi local specialties, western food, Huaiyang and Guangdong cuisine. The Nanyuan cafeteria with a capacity of 500 people is suitable for banquet and cocktail parties.

"The Deluxe View King Room is on the highest floor, the 11th, with the dining area right above on the 12th. Being on the 11th floor offers a really grand view, and the room itself feels spacious. For a summer holiday stay, the price of just over 500 RMB was an absolute steal. You definitely need to book it with breakfast included, as the breakfast alone is easily worth at least 50 RMB per person. They have lamb skewers, white wine, yellow wine, lamb offal soup, chicken wings, and pizza – it's like a mini buffet dinner, with a huge variety of options. The room also gets complimentary fruit, drinks, or yogurt daily, and they even offer turn-down service. The service is absolutely beyond five-star, although the facilities are indeed a bit dated."

Hotel near Inside Pingyao Ancient City,Pingyao County
"✨ The service experience was absolutely stellar! The pick-up and drop-off service was incredibly convenient, and the driver was so warm and thoughtful, even coming to the platform to help with our luggage. We were on a tight schedule to visit Shuanglin Temple, and they kindly dropped us off on the way, even taking our luggage back to the guesthouse first so we could travel light. This allowed us to visit three attractions in one afternoon – truly amazing. The staff were friendly, genuine, and incredibly attentive. Compared to the impersonal, assembly-line service at hotels, this place had so much more heart. ✨ The environment is superb, and the real-life views are just like the photos – no filters needed. It was so relaxing to sit and chat in the courtyard in the evening, a rare chance to enjoy some leisurely, slow-paced time. ✨ The location is unbeatable, right at the entrance of the pedestrian street. It's convenient for getting around but still far enough from the hustle and bustle. It's quiet and comfortable at night, truly offering tranquility amidst the lively area. ✨ The decor and design are very thoughtful, people-oriented, balancing aesthetics with living comfort. It's definitely not one of those places that only focuses on appearance and neglects the guest experience. ✨ The breakfast deserves a special mention! Many guesthouses fall short on their food, but this one is a complete exception. The ingredients are simple and unpretentious, but the seasoning is exquisite, the plating is meticulous, and the taste rivals professional restaurants. Don't miss it! ✨ The hygiene standards are on par with proper hotels – clean and tidy. They don't use the cheap disposable towels common in many guesthouses; the attention to detail is excellent. Overall, it was a very fulfilling stay. Although my overall impression of Pingyao Ancient City was just okay, this guesthouse was definitely the highlight of the trip! Wishing the owner great success in business!"

Hotel near Ancient City Tourist Cultural Area,Datong
Ruifeng Building Hotel, Datong Ancient City Ruifeng Building Hotel in Datong Ancient City is a premium hotel with the Northern Wei Dynasty theme under the Hongqi Hotel Group. - Location: It is situated on the north side of Qingyuan Street in Datong Ancient City, adjacent to Huayan Temple, with scenic spots like the Nine-Dragon Wall nearby. - Architectural Style: Based on the architectural style of the Northern Wei Dynasty, it adopts a "one axis and five courtyards" layout, integrating elements from Yungang Grottoes and fully demonstrating the "fusion of Hu and Han styles". - Facilities: There are 58 guest rooms on the second floor above ground; a Chinese restaurant on the first floor, mainly serving Datong casserole dishes; multi-functional banquet halls, meeting rooms, etc. on the first and second floors underground, which can accommodate 1,000 people for dining; and a parking lot on the third floor underground with 150 parking spaces.

"The hotel's location is superb; it's the perfect choice for exploring the old city, with all the sights and great food nearby. The hotel is very clean, the restaurant food is delicious, and the staff provide excellent service. As I was traveling alone and wanted to try local specialties, the staff kindly reduced the portion sizes, which was great – tasty and no waste! The room facilities are new, but there's a minor issue: the sink and shower are in separate areas, and the bath towels are kept under the sink. This makes it inconvenient to grab a towel after showering. If you take it into the shower beforehand, there's nowhere to hang it. Perhaps a hook could be added?"

We booked two rooms, and they kindly arranged for them to be next to each other. They even gave us lots of snacks and fruit. It was Labor Day, so the hotel was really busy, but they opened an extra restaurant for breakfast during peak hours, which was great. The service there was just as good, showing their excellent contingency planning for busy times. Our rooms were cleaned promptly every day, and they replenished the 6 bottles of mineral water without fail. A very satisfying trip overall!"

"Check-in was smooth and convenient. Our room faced the cultural tourism town, so we could enjoy the animation show for free in the evenings. Breakfast offered a good variety. There's also a Chinese restaurant for dinner; it's not managed by the hotel but the food is quite good. We didn't try the buffet, but the dining options close at 2 PM, which feels a bit too early. So, dining was a minor drawback. However, the environment is truly beautiful, surrounded by pine trees, green grass, and flowers. The tranquility is especially appealing for city dwellers. This will be my top choice for accommodation on my next trip to Wutai Mountain."

Hotel near Ancient City Tourist Cultural Area,Datong
The ancient capital of China, Datong in the world, opens up the heavy historical scroll of Shanxi, and Pingcheng Datong is eye-catching. Pingchengfu is located in the courtyard of No. 34, No. 36 and No. 38, Lihuaijiao, Southeast City Historical and Cultural Street in Datong City. Its location is the location of the Imperial Temple and the Altar of the Soochow of the Northern Wei Dynasty during the Pingcheng period, and it was the core area of the ritual system of the Northern Wei Dynasty at that time. In the Ming and Qing dynasties, it gradually became a residential block, and the traditional courtyard pattern has been retained to this day. Dongnanyi Historical and Cultural District is a key cultural and tourism development project in Datong City. It takes the construction concept of "inheriting historical context and retaining the atmosphere of the city". It took five years of restoration and reconstruction through protection, renovation, and repair. It was opened in 2023. The hotel's courtyard No. 38 is one of the reconstructed projects and is a representative traditional house in Southeast City. The historical brilliance of the ancient city streets and alleys has also brought new vitality and texture to the ancient city. First, let us understand the historical origin of Pingcheng Fu. Datong was called Pingcheng in ancient times. The Northern Wei Dynasty was established about 96 years (398-494), and this period was called the "Pingcheng Era". It is the center of politics, economy, religion and culture in northern China in the 4th to 5th centuries. Pingcheng Fu Hotel was grandly opened on July 21, 2025 and was released under this name, returning to the true nature of history and restoring the prosperous era of Pingcheng. There are three courtyards in the hotel, namely: Xuanpuyuan, Kusheju and Sangzhefang; there are 17 rooms in the hotel, all named after the Pingcheng period of the Northern Wei Dynasty, namely: Taihe, Dengguo, Tianxing, Tianci, Yongxing, Shenrui, Taiyan, Shiguang, Yanhe, Zhengping, Chengping, Tai'an, Xing'an, Tian'an, Xingguang, Heping, Huangxing, and Tian'an. The hotel relies on the cultural heritage of the three generations of Beijing and the important towns of the two dynasties to comprehensively enhance the value of the ancient city. Location: Pingcheng Fu is located in the southeast art district of Datong Ancient City. Walking distance to Huayan Temple, Jiulongbi, Daiwang Mansion, and Shanhua Temple. It takes 30 minutes to reach Yungang Grottoes and about 1.5 hours to reach Hanging Temple. It takes about 15 minutes to reach Datong South Station and about 30 minutes to reach Yungang International Airport.

"Staying at Pingchengfu truly makes you feel like you're living within the very fabric of Datong. The location is superb, right in the Southeast City Historical and Cultural District. Step outside and you're greeted by the vibrant street life of ancient brick and tile alleyways. Just a short walk takes you to the Drum Tower and Shanhua Temple. Strolling through the ancient city at night, feeling the breeze of the Northern Wei Dynasty – that immersive experience is something chain hotels simply can't offer. This guesthouse is a renovated old courtyard, retaining the authentic charm of Northern Shanxi residences while offering modern and comfortable interiors. Smart toilets, high-quality linens – everything is provided, and there's none of the damp, cold feeling you might expect from an old house. I really have to commend the owner's thoughtfulness. We stayed for three nights, but hadn't booked the same room type for all of them. I was prepared to switch rooms and move my luggage midway through, but to my surprise, the owner proactively upgraded us to a better room, so we didn't have to move once during our three-day stay. When you're traveling, not having to pack and unpack your luggage is such a blessing. This kind of consideration for the guest's experience is incredibly heartwarming. The service is also beyond reproach. They added us on WeChat beforehand and sent detailed local guides, which helped us avoid many potential pitfalls. When we left, they even gave us local specialty souvenirs. This sincere and warm hospitality truly touches your heart. If I had one minor suggestion, it would be that the steps in the old house make it a bit inconvenient to carry luggage. However, this small drawback pales in comparison to the tranquility of the courtyard and the starry night sky. Next time I come to Datong, I will definitely stay here again."

I did not want to leave. That is the most honest thing I can say about Xihe Academy. ”Guest house” is a label that does not prepare you for what this place actually is. If you are American and hearing that term for the first time, forget whatever image just came to mind. This is not a MIL suite tucked behind someone's garage. This is a fully realized, deeply considered experience wrapped inside one of the most stunning environments I have ever walked into. The courtyard alone stopped me mid-step. The surrounding area looks like an active film set -- you keep half-expecting to hear ”action” called from somewhere just off camera. And then you step inside and somehow it gets even better. I genuinely lost my words. The room is the kind of space where you realize someone has actually thought of everything. Included minibar. Fresh fruit and snacks. Loose-leaf tea so you can brew a proper cup. Bathrooms fully stocked down to the shower shoes. You can arrive with nothing but your clothes and be completely at ease. They have handled the rest. The staff made all of it feel personal. When a language barrier created a small miscommunication, they were patient and gracious without a flicker of frustration. When I joked that I had gone a little crazy shopping and could not close my suitcase, they immediately offered suggestions to help. That warmth is not a policy -- it lives in the people. They coordinate meals as well, and mine was delivered to my room and genuinely delicious. One thing I will say without hesitation: use their driver. This is a private, gated area and you cannot simply grab a random car or rideshare. Arrange your pickup from the train station or airport in advance -- it is seamless, affordable, and completely worth it. Do not skip this step. This was my first guesthouse experience, and Xihe Academy has set a bar I was not expecting to clear so soon. If you stay here, you will not regret it. Five stars is not enough.

This was my favorite hotel on this trip. First, upon arriving at the hotel parking area, a friendly and smiling uncle from the hotel parking lot enthusiastically guided us to a spot. We wanted to fast charge our car, so we parked in the fast-charging area (Yabei something parking zone). The staff at the Yabei parking area, who are not hotel employees, were very unfriendly. They said we could charge but to move the car quickly after it was done. We experienced being shooed away by that staff member twice in one day while charging, and he even warned us that if we didn't move the car after charging, he would lock it. I asked the uncle at the hotel's parking area, and he said it was fine to move the car after charging, and that the hotel has plenty of parking spaces. He also mentioned that the staff member didn't bother with gasoline cars occupying charging spots. During check-in, I didn't want to go out for takeout that evening and wanted to find a chair. I called the front desk, and it was an automated voice. A Datang staff member called me back to verify and then delivered the item. After dinner, my child wanted to go to the pool. We arrived at the pool around 9 PM. I asked to borrow a swimming ring inflator. The front desk staff said there was no need to inflate it, as we wouldn't be able to play for long because it was closing soon. It seemed like they didn't really want us to go in. I said, ”Isn't it open until 10?” She said the pool needed to be cleaned and we wouldn't be able to play for more than a few minutes, though she did lend me the inflator. I ignored her and took my child to the pool. The staff inside the pool didn't shoo us away. We played for about 30 minutes, and around 9:45 PM, the pool staff said they needed to clean the pool and to come back tomorrow. So we went back to our room. Overall, the stay was a good experience. The staff were generally friendly. It would be better if the hotel's own fast-charging area and pool clearly stated their operating hours and closing times.

1. **Impeccable Service:** The two staff members at the Executive Lounge were incredibly attentive and thoughtful throughout our stay. They were always anticipating guests' needs, proactively refilling drinks and tidying tables with a gentle yet professional demeanor. The doorman at the entrance was also very welcoming, immediately offering to help with luggage upon arrival. Their detailed and genuine service made us feel warm and welcomed from the moment we stepped in. 2. **Outstanding Room Amenities:** The hotel's facilities are very new, and the room was spotlessly clean and odor-free. The bedding was soft and skin-friendly, allowing for immediate relaxation and a peaceful night's sleep. We were also delighted to receive fresh welcome fruit upon check-in, a lovely touch that highlights their attention to detail. 3. **Overall Summary:** From the doorman to the Executive Lounge and the room amenities, the service in every aspect was top-notch. The environment was comfortable and quiet. This will definitely be our first choice for accommodation when traveling, and we'll certainly choose this hotel again next time!

A Sanctuary When I Needed It Most I arrived in Taiyuan not feeling well and ended up staying seven nights without ever leaving the room. Labor Day holiday, full DND stretches, just me and delivery apps. And honestly? It was exactly what I needed, and this hotel made it possible. Let me start with the moment that defined this stay. My housekeeper came in most days to refresh the room, and each time I'd ask for the same drinks. After a few days he just knew -- knew what I wanted, knew I wasn't feeling well. He'd heard me coughing while he cleaned and was clearly paying attention. On my last day, when I had DND up and didn't want any service at all, he quietly left a bag of my favorite drinks outside the door anyway. No knock, no disruption. Just a person who had been paying attention all week and wanted to take care of me. That kind of warmth doesn't come from a training manual. I won't forget it. The room itself held up beautifully for a long stationary stay. Clean, accurate to the photos, well-appointed. Floor-to-ceiling windows, two bathrooms, excellent shower pressure, generous storage, a proper tea set, and a beverage bar housekeeping kept replenished without being asked. The slippers were genuinely excellent -- better than some five-star properties I've stayed at. For seven nights of recovery during a national holiday, this hotel and its people delivered everything that mattered.

Ctrip's target is five diamonds, except for the lobby and services, none of the other links meet this standard. Room facilities are old. But at this price, don't expect too good hardware. The breakfast was good, which is to be commended. There is no business district nearby, so it is not very convenient to eat. Service: The service is rated five points, very thoughtful and enthusiastic. Facilities: old. Will not live again in the future.

I read a lot of reviews beforehand, which mostly mentioned terrible room conditions and unhelpful front desk staff. This prepared me for the worst, but when we arrived in the early hours of the morning, the staff member at the front desk was incredibly kind and friendly. We're a family of four, and they proactively upgraded our room. We had originally booked a Cloud Elegant Twin Room with two 1.35m beds, but they upgraded us to a Cloud Family Room with two 1.5m beds – what a pleasant surprise! We're so grateful. The room size is already quite generous, and both the indoor and outdoor environments are very quiet. The interior decor, even down to the corners, isn't as bad as some reviews suggested. As for the issue of yellow water, I didn't experience it during my two-night stay. The breakfast area is very nice, with a wide variety of dishes, including Shanxi specialties, and the food tastes good.

The hotel's location is superb; it's the perfect choice for exploring the old city, with all the sights and great food nearby. Perhaps a hook could be added?

Check-in was smooth and convenient. This will be my top choice for accommodation on my next trip to Wutai Mountain.

On this trip, after leaving my job, I've stayed in many places, but Datong was the most surprising city. It's full of historical sites, delicious food, and a vibrant, down-to-earth atmosphere. But what surprised me even more was the guesthouse I chose. I did extensive research and ultimately decided to stay within the ancient city, which turned out to be incredibly convenient for dining, lodging, and getting around. It was fantastic and perfectly suited me. Initially, I considered guesthouses in the Southeast District, but they were all new, and their styles were quite similar and unremarkable, much like guesthouses in other cities. So, I picked one with unique traditional Chinese characteristics, and it completely exceeded my expectations. The breakfast was exactly to my liking – nutritious and light. The room was warm and cozy, and the toiletry kit was amazing, with thoughtful items inside. Even though it's been in the ancient city for ten years, the decor and renovation show no sign of age; it's incredibly well-maintained. The housekeeper mentioned they had just upgraded all the rooms before my arrival, haha! 😄 This guesthouse truly helped my restless mind calm down. It felt like staying in a museum. The aunties and housekeepers working here told me stories about every single object and corner, which deeply moved me. This is what a guesthouse should be – unpretentious and full of stories. The biggest surprise this time was having the chance to meet the owner, a wonderful lady. She was so nice, I initially thought she was just another staff member; she had absolutely no airs. More importantly, her experiences and background are incredible – she does extreme sports and has even climbed Mount Everest! Talking with her made me feel so comfortable and helped me let go of a lot of things. Thank you for the encounter; it was truly destiny. This was the most unexpected gain from my trip to Datong, and I will definitely go back if I get the chance! It felt just like home, with no sense of unfamiliarity whatsoever.

This hotel has a fantastic vibe, apparently designed by a Beijing-based architect. The space is exquisite and super photogenic! The food was delicious 😋 and the butler service was excellent. The sound system in the room was amazing, and the in-room amenities were thoughtfully chosen and high-quality! Highly recommend! It's also very close to the high-speed train station, so you don't need to arrange transportation too far in advance.
