"This hotel is in a great location nearly next to Nishiki Market. Around the hotel is very quiet. The room we received was facing the graveyard, I’m not sure why there are so many negatives reviews about it but we had no problems with it. No ****** visited us😋😅 The bed was very spacious but a little hard. The pillows were also quite hard so we woke up sore a few times… overall the room was very clean and amenities were available downstairs if needed like toothbrush or qtips. The staff were very kind and brought our luggage to our room before we arrived through luggage forwarding. After check out, they also allowed us to store it in the back for a few hours."

"This is a great hotel, conveniently located near the station and attractions. You can reach Kyoto Station and the surrounding commercial areas within 20 minutes. My only minor complaint is that when I opened the window, all I saw was a staircase instead of an outside view, which was a bit disappointing. Other than that, everything else was perfect."

"The best part of this hotel was definitely the manga collection! As a manga fan, I absolutely loved having so many volumes available to read. It was such a fun and unique touch that made the stay memorable. Overall, it's a nice little hotel and a good choice for a one-night stay in Kyoto. The room was comfortable, and the atmosphere was cozy. The only downside is the location. It's a bit far from the nearest subway station and not really within easy walking distance of Kyoto's main attractions. That said, I'm a big fan of walking, so doing 25,000 steps a day around Kyoto was actually part of the fun for me. The breakfast was okay, but in hindsight, I probably would have skipped it and tried one of the many local cafés or restaurants instead. Overall, it's a cute hotel with a lot of charm. The only thing I missed was Netflix in the room, and then it would have been perfect!"

"My girls declared this the best hotel we’ve ever stayed at! Their first impression of the room was just “okay”, it was clean, comfortable, and a decent size, with separate toilet and shower areas, plus a sliding door that could close off the sleeping area. But what really won them over were all the little extras that this dormy inn offers. We booked the room with breakfast, and it was absolutely worth it. The breakfast spread had a great variety, and although they have a queue system in place, we never had to wait. After walking close to 20,000 steps exploring Kyoto each day, the onsen became the highlight of our evenings. The girls would head straight for the complimentary ice cream afterwards, followed by the massage chairs (when they weren’t occupied, they’re very popular!). We would then end the night with the free late-night ramen. 😆 That became our nightly routine for all four nights, and it made our stay in Kyoto even more memorable before we moved on to Osaka. We’d definitely stay here again. The only question we had was, why doesn’t the women’s bath have a cool/cold plunge pool like the men’s? It would have been the perfect way to cool down after the hot onsen!"

"Regarding the service, the front desk staff were quite cold upon my check-in on the first day, quite different from the hotel staff I encountered in the previous days. However, they were generally very meticulous in helping with check-in, luggage storage, and providing information about bike rentals. Still, it was a bit disappointing. The two staff members I encountered later were much more enthusiastic. The cleanliness was very disappointing. Based on the pictures and other recommendations, I had an impression of a high-end and wonderful place, but upon arrival, it felt very old. The cleanliness was truly subpar. On the way to my room, I could even see their messy kitchen. Both the public areas and the guest rooms were not very clean, with a lot of dust, water stains, and dirty spots on the floor. It felt like they weren't putting much effort into managing the place. Fortunately, the bedding and bathroom were relatively clean and acceptable. We couldn't get a consecutive room for our two-night stay and when I asked if they could help move our luggage to the second room, the request was denied, and I had to explain for a long time to a front desk staff member whose English wasn't very good. In terms of location, it's quite a walk, and a bit far from the most convenient Shijo Karasuma Station. Luckily, there's a bus stop right outside. However, Kyoto isn't very welcoming to carrying suitcases onto buses. There aren't many places to eat around the hotel at night, much quieter compared to the Kamo River area, but the upside is that it's much more peaceful. I heard Agora offers a unique matcha-making experience. I saw it on the day we checked out, and making matcha myself was quite fun. Most of the hotel guests are foreign tourists, and there are many tour groups. Overall, there's a significant gap compared to other hotels of similar price or class I've stayed at in Japan. I hope they can pay more attention to room and public area hygiene issues."

"Booked this during the rainy season for just over 300 [currency unit], which is excellent value for money. I was very happy with the room assignment; high floor with a great view, and even though it's street-facing, it wasn't noisy. The facilities were excellent. The area nearby is a well-established residential neighborhood, not overly touristy, which is perfect for experiencing local life."

"Location: Just a 2-minute walk from Shijo Subway Station Exit 6, super close! It's on a side street, so the area is very quiet and has a charming Kyoto vibe. There are plenty of izakayas nearby, and a 7-Eleven right next door! It's normal for hotels in Japan to be small, and the room here was indeed a bit on the smaller side. You won't be able to fully open a large suitcase. A thoughtful touch: the room has a makeup mirror, which is a huge plus for women! If you're a woman, be prepared! Shijo Subway Station Exit 6 doesn't have an elevator, and the stairs are quite high. Carrying heavy luggage might be a bit of a struggle. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this hotel in all aspects!"

We absolutely loved the facilities and location of Kyoto Gojo Premium Hotel. It is incredibly convenient—just a 5-minute drive to Kyoto Station, and only one train stop away, making it very easy to get around. The hot spring facilities were especially comfortable and relaxing, and it was such a wonderful experience for our whole family. We also really enjoyed the breakfast provided by the hotel, which was delicious and a great way to start each day. The staff were warm, friendly, and always helpful. Overall, we had a truly enjoyable stay and a very memorable experience.

This is a venerable super five-star hotel with an excellent location, though it's a bit out of the city center, making it quite inconvenient for getting to sights, attractions, and dining. However, the hotel shuttle bus to Kyoto Station is a lifesaver. The hotel was renovated a few years ago, but it still retains its 40+ years of history and luxurious decor, now blended with modern, clean design elements. Charging facilities and hygiene are excellent. I would definitely stay here again!

When we chose this hotel, we saw pictures and videos that made us think it was a resort estate, but it's not. There's very little to see inside the hotel; I could walk through the entire property in 5 minutes. Secondly, the hotel advertises natural hot springs, but the public ones reek of disinfectant as soon as you walk in, which is very unpleasant. The room itself was okay and had character, and the bathtub was very large with a pleasant woody scent when bathing. Finally, the breakfast – honestly, the taste was just mediocre. I wouldn't choose this hotel again at the same price point.

This was our first time staying in the Gion area, and Hotel the Celestine truly elevated the experience. The atmosphere is calm, elegant and very Kyoto. From check in to departure, everything felt smooth and professionally handled. The cleanliness was impeccable. The room was thoughtfully arranged with a perfect balance of modern comfort and traditional Japanese touches. Beds were extremely comfortable and the space felt well planned, not cramped like many city hotels. What makes this hotel special is the location. Stepping outside places you immediately in the charm of old Kyoto. Walking through Gion in the early morning before the crowds arrive was unforgettable. Service deserves special mention. The team was polite, warm and always ready to assist with genuine hospitality. A beautiful property for anyone who appreciates quiet luxury in a prime cultural setting. We would gladly stay again.

I really liked my stay in Tokyu Stay! The hotel is located quite near the train station, doesn’t give any anxiety when getting to the train station with our luggage’s. It is also located near a lot of food places. I like that there was a washing machine provided in the room, it’s so convenient! There are free sake and coffee at the hotel lobby. There are two hotels under Tokyu Stay on the same street so don’t panic if you went to the wrong one, because this outlet is just down the street.

The hotel is great and very comfortable and there’s 30% charges for early check in which it’s understandable. The hotel room is spacious and so comfortable with a bigger toilet as well. However, the location is walkable to Kyoto station, Aeon mall for around 15 mins but it was quite dark and so quiet when walking back to the hotel at night as there is very very less car and walking people, the street light is quite dim as well. This is the only downside which make me feel uneasy although Japan is safe but will still feel insecure. Breakfast and dinner is provided but no chance to try the dinner as always back after dinner time. Overall, everything is good and fine.

The location is great for Odaiba or the exhibition center, but not very convenient for anything else. Even the convenience store is a long walk away, and there's nothing else nearby. It's located in an office building, and the worst part was this: We arrived at noon, checked in, and stored our luggage. When we came back around 4 or 5 PM to get our room key, I don't understand what 'deluxe' means in 'deluxe king room,' and despite requesting a high floor in my notes, we were assigned to room 43 on the second floor – the furthest room possible. You have to walk around a large corner to the very end after exiting the elevator. The lighting was terrible, facing the atrium of the office building/hotel lobby. I don't know if it's because our booking was through an agent or what, but while Japanese hotels generally maintain their facilities well, you can tell the rooms here are quite old. There was even a smell of sweat when exiting the elevator on the second floor. I'm usually pretty laid-back, but this room felt like such a rip-off.

This hotel offers incredible value for money! It's super convenient, just a 5-minute walk from Kyoto JR Station. The streets on both sides of the hotel are lined with small restaurants and pubs, and there's a medium-sized drug store (Don Quijote) at the corner. The room was clean and tidy, and we could see Kyoto Tower right from our window. I especially recommend the hotel's shampoo – it's really good! 😊 The room was spacious enough for two adults and two 28-inch suitcases, with plenty of room to spare. There are USB charging ports by the bed. There's no kettle in the room, so you'll need to bring your own and an adapter. The breakfast on the first floor is a set meal, costing around 60 RMB per person. Highly recommended!

Highly recommend! This hotel offers the best location for its price point. It's literally across the street from Kyoto Station, about 100 meters away. You can even see the train platforms from your room window. The rooms are quite spacious too; while most hotels in this price range offer tiny 16 sqm rooms, this one generally has 20 sqm rooms, which is very roomy. The style is similar to that of a 'Fullon' hotel – very clean! I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kyoto!

I stayed for 4 nights from January 4 to January 8, 2026. From the hotel, you can walk to Nijo Castle in about 10 minutes. There are many small convenience stores nearby (7-Eleven and the like), as well as two large supermarkets — Life is open until midnight, which is a huge plus. You can buy nice gifts for friends and family late in the evening without wasting daytime hours. The transportation access is great too: within a few minutes' walk there's a subway station and a JR line (convenient for coming from the railway station), and right next to the hotel there's a bus stop. This is important because Kyoto's sights are scattered all over the city, and you often need to use public transport or taxis. Speaking of taxis. Twice I asked the reception to call me a taxi, and both times the staff helped me — a huge thank you to them! It was especially important on the first day: thanks to a taxi, I made it to Kiyomizu-dera Temple in time and explored it without rushing. Check-in was very quick, and the staff explained where everything was. The room was quite spacious — or maybe it just felt that way. I comfortably unpacked my suitcase and took out everything I needed without feeling cramped. The room had all the essentials, and there were kettles near the elevator that you could take to your room if needed. I did, and had some tea before bed (on the first floor, you can grab a free tea bag if you don't have your own). The air conditioner worked for both cooling and heating — which was very useful on some evenings. Honestly, I only used the hotel to sleep, and it was perfectly fine. Every morning, breakfast is served on the first floor. To be honest, I expected something simple since the room rate was quite affordable. That's why the breakfast was such a pleasant surprise! My eyes wandered every morning at the variety of delicious food! A huge selection. Every day I had rice with various toppings, amazing salmon, cod, and various vegetables (the okra here was especially good). There's a small smoking room on the first floor with good ventilation. My overall impression of the hotel is extremely positive. I will definitely stay here again on my next visit to Kyoto.
