"Hotel location central for visiting Harrogate tourist areas. Premier twin was adequate. Comfy beds had lovely cotton linen. Efficient and not too noisy aircon. Shower over bath was a surprise. Toiletries provided were lovely. Very small mugs and glasses. The receptionist was not very forthcoming in what she was doing. Very surprised to have to fill out all my details again and my friend in another another room had to provide her credit card for a room I'd paid for. There was confusion about payment and then our card did not unlock the door of the room we had been given. We were put in a quiet zone of the hotel, which was fine but we hadn't asked for. We did not eat or drink in the hotel. Efficient and reasonable parking. Lifts very busy in the morning."

"This hotel truly exceeded my expectations! Not only is its location superb, with a back door directly leading to the train station, which is incredibly convenient. But more importantly, the hotel itself is really unique. The rooms are spacious, and the facilities are complete, even providing an ironing board – it's absolutely fantastic! This is, by far, the best value for money hotel I've booked in the UK so far!"

"Stayed here with my wife and our 2 grandchildren on 13th August for 1 night ,it was our first ever time staying at this hotel and although the location is excellent and from the first look of the hotel it looks amazing, the size,the architectural structure is stunning, the entrance is grand and once inside the lobby is huge with a big staircase in the middle. However after checking in at reception we took the lift to our room on the third floor, and for such a big hotel the lifts are way too small (supposed to fit up to 8 people, maybe 8 children but definitely not 8 adults). We had a family executive seaview room,fairly large sleeping area,1 double and 2 single beds and although the bathroom was modern, tiled from top to bottom, it had a bath with shower/tap combo instead of a walk-in shower area or cubicle, the room itself was very old fashioned and in need of an update, cracked and water marked ceiling and when I presumed the people in the room above ours were taking a shower the ceiling started leaking,dripping into the middle of the room wetting the carpet, we reported this one of the reception staff who just said they would visit the people in the room and see what was causing the leak ”probably using the shower with the curtain outside the bath” they said , we never heard anything back so it seemed like they didn't care. There is a nice large outside balcony seating area which would be nice to sit and have a drink over looking the beach and sea in the hot weather or on a warm night but on a night none of the outside lights worked so was very dark which was a shame. Breakfast options are very limited, sausage, bacon,eggs,beans ,fried tomatoes, toast and cereal . We didn't notice until the morning we left and I'm sort of glad we didn't but we found mice or rat droppings on the carpet,along the edges and in the corner of the room! Overall it's a shame as this hotel was probably amazing 30 - 40 years ago, needs a lot of updating to the rooms and just more general maintenance and TLC to to hotel could make it Grand again albeit very disappointed and will not be staying again unless it gets a complete renovation in the near future."

"A really great stay! The hotel's location is excellent, and the room was large and very clean. It's just a five-minute walk from the central station and the bus station. Right next to the hotel is the old city wall, and from our room's window, we had an amazing and expansive view of it. The pure English breakfast was a bit simple, with not much variety, and the taste was just average."

"My stay at the Malmaison York far exceeded my expectations; I was thoroughly impressed. In a country where hotel rooms are often on the smaller side, this hotel truly stood out with its spacious and airy rooms, which felt anything but cramped. The facilities were meticulously maintained and thoughtfully equipped, ensuring a very comfortable stay. The hotel staff were incredibly warm, friendly, and efficient during check-in, and they patiently addressed all my requests throughout my stay, providing a truly pleasant service experience. The location is a major highlight. It’s just a short walk to key Old Town attractions like the Shambles and York Minster, making it incredibly convenient for exploring the ancient city. Staying here allowed me to immerse myself in the vibrant atmosphere of York's Old Town, significantly enhancing my entire Yorkshire trip. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting York. In the evenings, a short stroll led me to enjoy some wine and Italian food – I couldn't have been happier with my choice in York!"

"The hotel is right by the city walls, and some rooms even offer views of them. The room was a bit small but very clean and tidy, and it even had a bathtub – perfect for a relaxing soak after exploring the old town. It's only a ten-minute walk to York Minster and The Shambles, and it's wonderfully peaceful to visit them in the mornings and evenings before the crowds arrive. The English breakfast was decent, and you can enjoy views of the old town from the dining area on the first floor."

"Yes the room was dated, and yes the room was hot. However the room was clean, comfortable and a fan was provided to help circulate the warm air. The windows have restricted openings most likely due to H&S but with the fan it was enough to move the warm air out and allow cooler air in. Check up was chaotic but the lady apologized and explained they had a member of the staff off sick. She worked her way through everyone as quickly as she could giving everyone the same warm welcome. Breakfast was enjoyable and the spa area was a delight offering everything you need. After checking out I realized I left my sunglasses in the room. The cleaning team were so helpful allowing me access to retrieve them and to double check I had everything"

"This hotel has great style! From the interior design to the cocktails, everything was excellent. Although breakfast isn't a buffet, there are plenty of options, very local and English. The hotel even has a basement that served as a shelter during WWII and has now been converted into a spa – very cool, definitely worth checking out. The hotel pantry also offers complimentary snacks, fruits, and drinks. It's truly good, and the location is fantastic. The record player and vinyl records in the room are a wonderful touch."

"We booked two lovely ”King” rooms - very clean and comfortable, in superb settings. The hotel is very conveniently located to allow a short walk into the town. We stayed for two nights, and there were busy weddings on both days - but there was minimal noise, and the wedding guests added to the lovely atmosphere. The hotel appeared to be almost fully booked for both days, so finding that only ONE lift was working was less than helpful (we were told that the other lift had been out of action ”for some time”, due to the hotel ”awaiting spare parts”?) Annoyingly, the one working lift only went up to the 4th floor, so to reach our room on the 5th floor we had to hump our suitcases up the stairs - minor inconvenience, but unexpected from such a prestigious hotel. Our biggest gripe was (a.) the lack of available parking spaces (one car park had a huge marquee erected on it for a function) and (b.) being told when checking in that there was a parking charge of £18 per night - even though there was no mention on the website or on the booking details. It felt rather ”cheap and petty” for a hotel to have to stoop to fleecing their guests for parking fees to park at their hotel! We estimated that there were around 150 cars - so guests with cars are subsiding the hotel by over £2500 per night. All-in-all, a thoroughly enjoyable stay in a lovely hotel set in lovely surroundings - we would definitely stay there again."

"Booking was easy; the staff were quick and friendly on check in. The room was clean, smelled fresh and the bathroom a lot nicer than last time I wouldn’t recommend paying for the upgrade for a bathtub. They are so small you can’t relax in them.  Breakfast was to die for. Fantastic range, and delicious cumberland sauages making a change to the usual hotel pork sausages"
