TravelBrujaOnix Fira seems like a junior hotel in that it has a great deal of potential, but consistently falls short and seems to be having some crisis of identity and growing pains as a hotel.
TLDR: I would not stay here again at the rate I paid at booking. It is a decent hotel, but one should only pay $105-$120/night for what it offers.
Here’s what’s going right for it:
- very clean facilities and room
- located across from a mall that also has a grocery store , which is great for grabbing anything you forgot to pack or raw veggies
- a nice 2nd floor reading area
- a nice rooftop terrace for doing yoga if you bring a mat
I have 3 years of experience working for major brand hotels. Here’s where I think Onix Fira can stand to improve:
- greeting guests at reception (did a guest have a long journey? Express curiosity, compassion and enthusiasm for the effort they’ve already made. No one wants to be on a 14 hour flight and be received by someone in a bad mood who looks like they have better things to do).
- common sense fixes: a) put hooks on the bathroom doors so guests can hang wet towels, b) have a soap dish for your soap, c) the consequence of imitation stainless steel buttons for the toilet.. they leave fingerprint stains that look gross, d) have a blanket or bedspread available in the room and not just the top sheet even though it’s hot out, e) add hair dryers in bathroom, f) have a complimentary bottle of water ready for guests when they enter tthieir room, especially if it’s 90 degree weather in the summer. That’s humane. And no one charging $200/night+ has any business offering less
- more pool lounge chairs during the summer
- advertise with photos that don’t use a fishbowl lens, be honest that the pool is small
- advertise honestly that one must climb 1.5 slights of stairs to reach pool. That’s an accessibility issue for disabled guests
- have replenished towels available for guests
- have the pool hours actually open during posted hours
- offer activities for solo travelers to socialize; you have a whole beautiful 2nd floor level that could be a great space for games, wine tasting, a silly interaction of your choice. I never saw anyone use this space and activities could make the stay more worthwhile.
- offer concierge services and recommendations
- have a manager on duty available to talk to guests 7 days/week
-consider different hallway lighting than red light; red light feels like a *******
Some specific stuff that went wrong in my stay:
- key card for room stopped working after one night
- power/electricity/AC went out 3x in one night
- no one advertised there was construction in front of the hotel .. a total eyesore and noisy during weekdays
- drunk guy wandering my floor thst no one stopped at reception and/or no one accompanied him to his room to make sure he wasn’t upsetting
- no manager or person with decision making power was available to answer questions
- no complimentary services offered for various inconveniences, not even empathy offered
Hope things get better!

alizee0511Pros:
1. Super convenient location! Just steps away from Casa Batlló, literally a 2-minute walk across the street.
2. No breakfast service, but they offer some snacks and coffee at the front desk on the ground floor.
3. The room has a minibar, but it's chargeable.
4. Free water is available at the front desk on the ground floor (see picture).
Cons:
1. The bedding is too soft, and all the pillows are quite high. My neck was killing me the first night, and by the second night, my back started hurting too...
2. Only towels and toilet paper are provided; no other amenities.

KotaJPI had emailed in advance to let them know I'd be staying with a friend, but upon arrival, we were assigned separate rooms. I was told that since our reservations weren't made together, we couldn't be in the same room.
If they had informed me of this when I first emailed, I could have canceled our separate bookings and made a single reservation for both of us.
Eventually, Trip.com helped us out, and we were assigned to the same room for one night. However, since both my room and my friend's room had empty beds from the very first night, I'm still puzzled as to why we couldn't have been assigned to the same room from the beginning.
I was also surprised that a €50 deposit was required to borrow a hairdryer. When I actually tried to borrow one, all the hairdryers were already lent out. Since I had already paid the deposit, I think it would be better if they checked hairdryer availability before asking for a deposit.
Regarding the other guests, it's a dormitory, so I suppose it's to be expected to some extent, but my impression was that the quality of guests varied wildly.
On the positive side, the dining area was spacious, the coin lockers were very secure, the location was excellent, and the cleaning staff were very kind.
Thank you.

Guest UserAbsolutely loved my stay there, the staff was so nice and welcoming. My room was small but I didn't need more space - the bed was double and very comfy and I had my own bathroom (pretty big in comparison) with lots of towels, fresh soap and tubes of showering gel (I travelled lightly so it was welcomed) so what else can one need. I loved the included breakfasts and the breakfast timeslot (from 8 to 12 - take notes all you other hotels out there!). There was a lot of variety for the price so IMO the food should satisfy most of the folks - I liked chorizo and cured ham, the wide selection of vegetables, the bread and croissants, and last but not least, the coffee was, pardon my expression, pretty damn good for a two star hotel. Tea was very ordinary in comparison but still okay. Having a kettle and a fridge in my room was super convenient. Wifi and tv quality was great. The walls aren't thick so when there's more guests it can get noisy - which didn't happen often to me but I can imagine how it can be during the high season - but that's a problem in most hotels all over the world. People are noisy animals, most of them. So if you are easily irritated etc consider taking & using earplugs, I guess. There were only two real downsides, let's say one and a half because only one was serious. My room was a bit too warm for my taste and when I realized that opening the window doesn't help, I tried using the air conditioning - which didn't work. I tried all the options, and the cooling mode made the room warmer instead of cooler. Which was a bummer. I didn't report that to the staff, since it wasn't a big issue for me at the moment - I spent most of my time outside the hotel anyway and came back at night when it was much cooler. But I can imagine it becoming a serious problem during the regular season in the summer or later in the spring. Air conditioning in a place like Tossa is essential, so yeah, better fix that ASAP, Turissa. Another thing, very minor this time, was that the cleaning lady who goes in to your room every day has a habit of straightening out the sheets on the bed every time. Yeah, like she did that every single day, lol. I mean I'm not that picky... Are you guys that picky (whoever reads this) ? Just leave it be and save yourself the work, lady, because you know it's gonna be a mess the next day, and the next, and the next - so it's like fighting windmills - unless your name is Donna Quixote, this is something uncalled for. But you know guys, if that's the only complaint one can make about the hotel, then you know Turissa is more than alright. Amiright or amiright guys;) Wish I could stay longer. PS: Oh and there's a pool for the guests, too. I didn't really have time to use (we were more excited dipping our toes in the sea anyway) it but I could watch it every day from the cantina when having my breakfast. Nice!

CheelipI had an amazing 7 days and 6 nights stay at Ohla Barcelona. From the moment I arrived, it completely exceeded my expectations.
Beyond being a beautiful five-star hotel with a rooftop pool, gym, rooftop bar, and a Michelin one-star restaurant, what truly impressed me was the warmth of the service and the genuine focus on guest experience.
Even before arriving, I received thoughtful emails from their Experience Team — and yes, they actually call it the Experience Team — asking if there was anything I needed ahead of check-in. It immediately made the stay feel personal and intentional.
Upon checking in, guests are welcomed with free-flow bubbly from Barcelona, trays of chocolates, and a hospitality team that genuinely makes you feel cared for. The hotel also has its own app where you can request amenities, special pillows, support pillows, and other essentials conveniently. There is also a dedicated concierge/help desk that gives excellent recommendations for dining and things to do around the city.
The location is another huge highlight. The hotel sits directly across from Palau de la Música Catalana, and within walking distance to the Barcelona Cathedral and the Gothic Quarter, where every street and building feels layered with history and character. It’s the perfect place to slow down, wander through the Gothic streets, and eventually make your way toward El Born for dinner.
Even when heading further out to places like Sagrada Família, Casa Batlló, or Casa Milà, everything is only a short taxi ride away, which made the stay incredibly convenient.
I also appreciated the well-equipped gym and sauna, which allowed me to maintain my workout routine while travelling.
One of the nicest touches was the turndown service every evening. There were always handwritten notes waiting for us, along with chocolates, little surprises, complimentary pictorial books about Barcelona, and even bottles of wine in the room. None of it felt performative or overly scripted. The warmth felt sincere and heartfelt.
Design-wise, the hotel strikes a beautiful balance between old and new Barcelona. From the exterior, you still see the classic architectural curves and aged character of the city, while inside, the interiors are dark, modern, contemporary, and thoughtfully designed. Cozy rooms, elegant marble finishes, and a global design sensibility that would appeal to travellers who appreciate aesthetics, comfort, and detail.
The breakfast buffet was also excellent, and every member of the staff always seemed ready to help and serve with genuine hospitality.
I truly enjoyed my stay here, and if I return to Barcelona, I would absolutely stay here again. Easily one of the best hotels I’ve stayed at in Spain, if not the best.

Yiduan-/-lvxingThe hotel has a good location, with many restaurants nearby and several metro lines. It's within walking distance of the Palau de la Música, the Gothic Quarter, Casa Batlló, and Casa Milà. The hotel rooms aren't large, but they're acceptable. The bathroom, while small, is functional. The king-size bed is made of two double beds pushed together, and the bedding is comfortable. Breakfast starts at 7:30 AM. If you have plans for the morning, you can book a room without breakfast. However, the hotel breakfast is quite substantial, including freshly squeezed orange juice, various cheeses and breads, and marinated salmon. On our last day, we had to catch a train and didn't have time for breakfast, so we told the restaurant in advance, and they prepared takeaway breakfast boxes for us to eat on the train. This hotel, like the one we stayed at in Madrid, is part of the 'Catalonia Hotels and Resorts' group, and we had a very good experience with both.

The room itself was really good: clean, comfortable and spacious. However, my first impression of the stay and the stuff of the hotel was suboptimal, which coloured the whole experience.
I arrived at the hotel at about 1 p.m. First thing that surprised me was the fact that there were actually 2 hotels and only one of them had a check-in desk, to find which I had to ask around. When I finally arrived at the reception, I was second in line as there were some people checking out. While I was waiting a family (parents and a child) came in, and then one more group of travellers arrived. When the receptionist was done with the people who were before me, I asked to be checked in. In response, I got told that she was going to check the family in first. She wasn’t apologetic or nice about, she told me this as if that was what always happened and not that people got served in the order of their arrival. I am sure the family really appreciated what she’d done and I wouldn’t have minded either if that action was followed with acknowledgement of this not being okay and an offer of some services to recover their reputation. Not only had I not got an apology or anything like that but also I was again bypassed for registration as the receptionist decided to invite 5 people who came in later on to check them out. At that point me and other people in the line were quite baffled by the behaviour and understood that there was nothing fair about this interaction.
After I was finally checked in and went back to the other side of the street for my hotel, the room pleasantly surprised me. It was clean and had all the necessary amenities. However, I was a bit confused at first by the thing you need to do to get electricity. I was told by a friend that the system of inserting the key card into a specific slot in order to get electricity is now the norm, but this month I’ve been to 5 different hotels and all of them had different systems and none of them were this particular one, so I personally would’ve appreciated a heads up or an informative poster on the door. The only downside of the room that I found was that that side of the street was quite loud. It was much better with the windows closed, however, if you are a light sleeper, I recommend taking ear plugs.
The rest of the stay went pretty okay for me, but that first experience unfortunately is something I’ll never forget.
If you are travelling as a family, I would imagine this hotel would prioritise you over other guests any time, so maybe that’s just who they cater to. As a solo traveler, however, this was not what I was expecting.

The hotel is very clean, and the staff are polite.
There were a few amenities provided. There are no toothbrushes, so you need to bring your own. There are no USB outlets. The location was fantastic!

Anonymous UserI might be slightly harsh about this hotel and setting standards too high, but upon checking in to my room, I found the room to be somewhat old (normal given to age), but the water kettle was extremely dirty (hotel was kind to give me a replacement). Service was good, as expected from a 5 star hotel. Location was decent, a bit far from the tourist action which was nice. Saturday nights = party on the roof top bar which meant lots of noise and music even on the 9th floor. I was hoping for better but maybe this is what 5 star meant in Barcelona? I am not sure, I had a pleasant stay for my 4 nights but there were some ups and downs. Good restaurant, nice lobby. Also the bathroom window is completely see-through so if you like your privacy you might want to request it being blocked before you stay. Nice view from the roof.
