"Before booking, I saw many negative reviews about the hotel's outdated facilities and the courtyard parking. I debated whether to book, but curiosity eventually got the better of me as I wanted to experience this trendy Shanxi hotel. I stayed in the 'Jin Xian Lou' (Pure Yang Ya Ju) to the left of the main entrance, and the experience was awful.
**Pros**: The service staff were all excellent, from the front desk during check-in to the breakfast servers and housekeeping. The room also had high ceilings, which I guess is a plus. The breakfast was alright.
**Cons**: The elevator in the Jin Xian Lou had no ventilation; it was stifling hot as soon as you stepped in. The hallway outside the elevator had an indescribable musty smell. Upon entering the room, there was also an unpleasant odor, so I immediately opened the windows for ventilation. I could tolerate the room being old, and the cleanliness of a 45-square-meter room was just okay. However, I was shocked when I got to the bathroom. The plating on the shower faucet was peeling off, the shower door seal was yellowed and stiff, making it impossible to close the door. I didn't dare turn the shower water up too high. Also, the toilet seemed smaller than standard size, with an aftermarket smart lid that was positioned very oddly; a larger person probably wouldn't even fit.
**Complaints**: For such a seemingly magnificent hotel, I found four hangers insufficient. I asked housekeeping for more wooden hangers, but they said they didn't have any wooden ones. They eventually brought back an assortment of plastic, wire, and other materials. Of course, housekeeping tried their best, but it's laughable that such a high-end hotel would use these hangers. Doesn't it cost much to buy some wooden hangers?
The room I stayed in faced the courtyard (which was more like a public parking lot). The electronic sounds of license plates being called out from outside the window started from 6:30 AM and didn't quiet down until after 11:00 PM, along with car horns and other noises in between.
The hotel hosts many groups and conferences, which makes it very noisy. It's not suitable for individual travelers who prefer a quiet stay. I will not choose to stay here again if I return to Taiyuan. It's all show and no substance, not worth it 👎"

"Having stayed in dozens of hotels for business trips throughout the year, I rarely leave reviews. While there were a few minor issues during my stay here, my overall experience was quite good among the hotels I've visited.
1. The front desk staff were incredibly warm and proactive. There was a small problem during check-in, and though it wasn't a big deal to me, I mentioned it casually. However, after understanding the situation, the front desk proactively offered a solution at check-out instead of just a simple apology. This was the most unexpected and commendable aspect. 👍
2. They quickly addressed suggestions: The gym initially lacked water and towels, but these were promptly provided.
3. Although the room was small, the amenities were decent, and the cleanliness was good – something I always pay attention to in every hotel.
4. The location is super convenient, right next to a shopping mall and a pedestrian street.
5. The free coffee was also a nice touch.
Areas for improvement:
1. The breakfast selection was too limited, and many items were already cold before 9 AM. They could learn from brands like Quanjing and Hampton Inn in this regard.
2. The broken elevator needs to be fixed quickly. With so many floors and only one working elevator, the wait times during peak hours are too long.
I would likely choose to stay here again on my next business trip to Taiyuan."

Kempinski Hotel Taiyuan is located in the south commercial center of Taiyuan, many of the city's best shopping centers are all within walking distance, also with easy access to the Shanxi International Expo Center and Shanxi Sports Center, 7 km to the South Railway Station and 12 km to Wusu International Airport.
"I stayed for 4 days. There was almost no service. I arrived at the hotel at 4 PM, and although they helped me arrange a higher floor, I waited for almost an hour, and the room they arranged was still not ready. They then switched me to another room on the same floor. The lobby was very hot, and all the temporary resting spots were directly in the sun. When I got upstairs, I was a bit dumbfounded to find my room directly facing the elevator. Oh well, I checked in. The check-in experience wasn't great. Disposable toiletries weren't replenished promptly; besides toilet paper, you literally only got them once. For a 4-day stay (2 days booked via a group deal, 2 days via other platforms), the bedside power outlet didn't work. I had to unplug the table lamp to charge my phone, and that outlet was just awful. The floor-to-ceiling window blinds were very dirty, covered in dust. For the same pre-sale price, Shangri-La offers much better value for money. Kempinski seemed forced into pre-selling, almost as if they don't want future guests. There are just too many options in Taiyuan for this price point."

1. The dining management on the hotel's 2nd floor needs significant improvement. We ordered five dishes for dinner; we finished the first two, but the rest were nowhere to be found. Three tables next to us, who arrived 5-10 minutes after us, had already finished their meals and some had even left. After we repeatedly urged them, our remaining dishes finally arrived, including dishes like knife-cut noodles. Others who arrived later had finished theirs before we even got ours. I have photos to prove this. Honestly, this aspect completely falls short of the hotel's overall standard."

"What was most disappointing about this stay wasn't a broken piece of equipment or simply a late room delivery, but rather the hotel management's arrogant, shirking, and inactionary attitude when faced with problems.
We booked three suites for two nights. The hotel's policy is a 12 PM checkout and 2 PM check-in. We arrived at 10:30 AM to check-in, but two suites weren't ready until around 4:30 PM, and the last one wasn't available until almost 5 PM. The duty manager, Becky, repeatedly explained that ”the previous guest only checked out at 3 PM.” However, a previous guest's late checkout, room status coordination, and housekeeping are all internal management issues for the hotel and should not be borne by the next guest.
After checking in, we encountered a heating problem. At that time, the nighttime temperature in Mount Wutai was close to or even below 0℃. The hotel's in-room air conditioning system was off, and we had to rely on in-room heaters. The heater in one of the rooms was broken. Maintenance and management staff were slow to arrive, and we waited in the room for the duty manager for over 30 minutes, eventually having to switch rooms. The lobby manager, Manager Chen, explained that ”the hotel is relatively old,” and for the waiting time, stated that ”the front desk was busy, and this is considered a reasonable wait.”
Even more outrageous, on the morning of September 30th, the guest in room 8228 went to the front desk in person to report being unable to sleep due to insect noise all night, and also had multiple obvious red swollen areas on their neck. The front desk took photos on the spot, provided a plug-in mosquito repellent, and stated that they would arrange for a re-cleaning of the room. However, during the afternoon discussion, the lobby manager still insisted that it might not be mosquito bites, but rather that ”the guest has a special constitution and is allergic.”
Throughout the entire communication process, hotel management almost consistently explained why the problems were ”not the hotel's responsibility”:
Late room delivery – blamed on the previous guest's late checkout;
Manager's slow arrival – blamed on the busy front desk;
Broken equipment – blamed on the hotel being old;
Suspected mosquito bites – blamed on the guest's constitution;
Cold room – stated there was no other solution.
The lobby manager even repeatedly emphasized that ”the hotel is not a five-star hotel” and ”does not have a five-star rating, so it cannot be expected to meet five-star hotel standards.” However, the hotel itself is sold as a 5-diamond high-end hotel on Ctrip and is also under the Marriott brand. Guests were not asking for extra courtesies, but simply the most basic: rooms delivered on time, equipment functioning, heating when temperatures are near zero, and prompt resolution of issues when they arise.
I want to particularly state that this review is not about compensation.
The hotel did propose some compensation options during the process, but we ultimately did not accept any financial compensation, room rate reduction, or other benefits. Until our departure, hotel management did not offer a serious and formal apology for these issues.
What I truly found unacceptable was the arrogance, inaction, and continuous shirking of responsibility displayed by the hotel staff when faced with problems. Old equipment can be repaired, late rooms can be coordinated, but if a hotel management team lacks even the most basic attitude of admitting fault, taking responsibility, and solving problems, that is the most serious issue.
Objectively speaking, the hotel restaurant service was very good, and Jeremy from concierge was also very responsible. These employees deserve recognition. However, the guest room operations and the way management handled guest complaints fell far short of my basic expectations for the Marriott brand."

"Exiting Taiyuan South Station, follow the signs to the West Plaza, take the escalator up to the ground level, and walk straight ahead. Cross a small road at the pedestrian crossing on your left, and you've arrived. Do not go through the underpass. The hotel breakfast is excellent, truly five-star standard, and the staff are also very good. From the front desk, exit to the right, turn left onto the main road, and walk along the road towards the station for a few minutes. There's a pedestrian crossing, and then you'll see the entrance to Taiyuan South Station. It's about a seven or eight-minute walk. The room has a knob to indicate opening and closing the window, and there can be some traffic noise as it faces the street."

"This stay exceeded my expectations. The hotel just opened this year, so everything is brand new and spotless. Both the public areas and the rooms are very comfortably designed. The service throughout was excellent; check-in at the front desk was efficient, and any requests were promptly handled. Breakfast was a delightful surprise with delicious dishes and fresh ingredients. The minibar was replenished daily, which was a great touch! I especially want to commend the bedding – the mattress was just right, not too soft or too firm, and the duvet and pillows were incredibly soft, ensuring a perfect night's sleep. From the moment I walked into the hotel, I could feel a very peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. The Front Office staff were very friendly and helpful. They took the time to talk with us, explain things, and made the check-in process very smooth.
The room was very clean, spacious, and comfortable. I really liked the soft and relaxing colors of the room. The bed was big and comfortable, and the pillows were very soft. The bathroom, toilet, and dressing area were also well separated and well organized. There were also plenty of amenities in the room.
I liked the evening turndown service. When we came back to the room in the evening, the bed had already been prepared, the lights were adjusted to a relaxing level, and there was a small snack next to the bed. After spending the whole day outside, this made us feel very relaxed and helped us forget how tired we were.
The room was also very quiet. The curtains had two layers, so almost no sunlight came into the room in the morning. The air conditioner could be adjusted to the temperature we wanted, and the air did not blow directly onto us. We could not hear much noise from outside, so we had a very good night’s sleep.
The breakfast had many choices. Since we stayed during 国庆 holiday, there were quite a lot of guests, so we had to wait around 10–15 minutes when we went down late. But I think this was understandable because the hotel was quite busy.
I really enjoyed having the chance to try some local food from Taiyuan, Shanxi, such as 老豆腐, 刀削面, and 担担面. There were also bread, fruit, coffee, salad, Western food, and many Chinese dishes. There was something for everyone. The staff were also very attentive and regularly helped clear the plates.
Another thing I really liked was the location. We could walk directly from the hotel into Maoye Mall through the back entrance, which was very convenient.
After checking out, we could also leave our luggage at the hotel. Ivy, kindly helped us with this, and I really appreciated her help.
I was especially impressed by the Front Office staff, both when we checked in and when we checked out. They were the first people who welcomed us and the last people who said goodbye to us, and they made us feel very welcome throughout our stay.
I was very happy to have the chance to give them a small gift(mini bread) as a thank you for taking such good care of us :)
Overall, we had a really wonderful and relaxing stay here. Thank you to everyone at the hotel for making us feel so comfortable and welcome.
If I have the chance to visit Taiyuan again, I will definitely stay here again. ❤️

The room was great, and the underfloor heating kept it very warm. The courtyard (siheyuan) is absolutely beautiful. The underground parking was also very convenient. The service was excellent. I didn't use my car for two days, so leaving wasn't the smoothest. I had to rush to Yungang Grottoes and left before 7 AM, getting a bit delayed at the entrance. The parking fee was 100 RMB (even though there was a free parking voucher, it didn't link successfully), but the owner paid it for me. This is a very responsible establishment, and both the owner and the housekeeper are wonderful. The location is super convenient, and the breakfast is incredibly delicious. Many thanks!

Guest UserThe room was spotless, and the hotel's courtyard was perfect for photos. It was my first time sleeping on a 'kang' (heated bed), and it felt like one bed could easily fit 7 or 8 people! My daughter devoured all the snacks in the complimentary fruit platter before we even fully checked in. Breakfast was also a pleasant surprise – very refined and beautifully presented. Overall, it was a fantastic stay.

Guest UserIt was just an absolutely amazing experience from the very beginning and until the very end of our stay, not even just in the hotel, but in the city of Pingyao itself in general. Me and my friend are traveling very light and without guides, and in Pingyao we had only one day: from evening to evening of the next day. Huge huge thanks to everyone who made this day unforgettable and ultimately comfortable for tired us: Alice, Helen, Fenny, Hana, and all others who was there for us.
The hotel service is simply excellent: as soon as they learned about our late arrival, they immediately offered to meet us at the railway station, which was absolutely the sweetest thing. They brought us to the city gate, met us there, and walked us to the hotel. There they gave us a map, on which they explained in great detail where everything is, what is worth paying attention to, how it is better to build the route, and what opening hours different sights have. They also helped us organize a private transfer to Shaolin Temple the next morning. It was just perfect: we got there in 15 minutes instead of one and a half hours by foot, and after our walk in the temple they met us and brought us back. Also on the evening of arrival they helped us immediately buy the ticket for visiting all attractions of the city, valid for three days. And also they advised us where to eat, and gave us a hotel discount in both places. We did not regret it even once, the food was amazingly delicious in both places!
The hotel itself is just wonderful: it really looks exactly like in the photos. You want to photograph every corner and record how the sparrows are chirping on the roof, and how two wonderful cats are meowing. The room also matches and even exceeds expectations. A huge kang bed, very comfortable. Excellent shower with everything needed. Breakfast is included in the stay: the traditional Chinese one was very tasty! Unfortunately, we did not manage to eat the egg, it was freshly boiled and still hot, but we were hurrying to Shaolin Temple by opening time. Also the hotel has a laundry service, and special thanks for that too! Washing and drying were very fast, and we got our nicely smelling clothes back already after four hours, which was critical for us, because we were leaving the same day.
We felt like we really were honored guests, and we really appreciated it, even if only for one day.

This guesthouse boasts a wonderfully elegant ambiance and a truly superb location. Stepping out, you're right on Gulou East Street, perfect for exploring, and Southeast Yi is just a few minutes' walk away. Despite its bustling street location, the guesthouse's courtyard offers surprising tranquility. We slept soundly through the night and woke up naturally, completely undisturbed.
The owner and the housekeeper were incredibly thoughtful and attentive. They were always ready to answer any questions, from before our arrival until our departure, and their responses were always very detailed. Every day, the housekeeper would kindly ask us what time we'd like breakfast the next morning, and at the agreed time, she'd even come to our room door to let us know it was ready.
I absolutely adored it!!! If I ever visit again, I would definitely choose Yishui Street.

Extremely happy with my stay here!
Room is very spacious and clean, and I was within walking distance to most of the attractions and restaurants.
The staff here are very friendly and they always went out of their way to make my experience in Datong memorable! I'm especially grateful because the manager showed me how to order food from local restaurants using my phone and get it delivered straight to my room!

The place is very clean, and the environment is really cozy, making for a very comfortable stay. The shower pressure is fantastic, I'm very satisfied, it's such great value! The location is truly unbeatable. It's inside the ancient city but not right in the middle, offering both convenience and peace and quiet. They even have their own underground parking, which is perfect for those driving. Getting in and out of the ancient city by car is a breeze with no traffic jams, and walking to the city center is super easy! The ambiance here is so charming and historic, it really sets the mood, and the courtyard is fantastic for photos. The service is warm and attentive, and the room was cleaned thoroughly every day. If I ever come back to Datong, I'll definitely choose to stay here again.

The room was clean, with a separate wet and dry area, and the bathtub was a nice touch for families with kids. The robot service was a big hit with the children.
