Nice resort, ideal for families or those who want a quieter spot away from the centre. Easy to get to centre by bus or uber. Lots of tour operators will pick up from resort for their activities.
Clean rooms with daily housekeeping. Fridge and kettle in room.
Bar and simple food available all week. Pizza restaurant Friday til Sunday.
3 nice pools. Very chilled out atmosphere.
Would recommend
The bunk beds are designed head-to-toe, so you don't disturb each other, and there are outlets and bedside lamps, which is really practical. The four-person female dorm has its own private bathroom, which is convenient, and everyone is considerate and keeps it pretty clean.
The kitchen hygiene is quite poor; the sink is often disgustingly clogged. There isn't a single good non-stick pan; everything sticks terribly, a far cry from industry standards.
The location is great, right near Surfers Paradise, with big and small supermarkets and plenty of restaurants nearby, making dining convenient.
It's very noisy at night facing the street, but I guess anyone staying in this area enjoys a lively atmosphere.
You can store your luggage after checkout, but there are no tags, you just go into the storage room yourself and pick it up. I personally think this is a security risk... I wonder if the business thinks having cameras is enough... but with the current security situation in Europe and America... 😒
It rained the whole two days I was in Gold Coast... what a shame.
First, our request for a high floor was kindly accommodated—we were given room 11825 on the 18th floor, which features panoramic ocean views and elegant interiors. Many thanks to your team for that. In fact, my wife has a special request: could we please have this same room every time we stay at Dorsett?
Second, the thoughtful gesture of a card, chocolate, and a bottle of wine for our special occasion truly showed how much effort your team puts into making guests feel valued.
Third, both my wife and our child absolutely loved the pool and jacuzzi at Star Grand. So overall, our stay was amazing, to say the least.
But none of this would be possible without first acknowledging your wonderful hotel staff. You probably see hundreds of guests each day, yet you still take a personalized approach—staying in touch with each guest and understanding their individual needs. Honestly, I hope other hotels will follow your example and make this the gold standard for excellence in customer service. Our last two hotel bookings through Trip.com were disappointing, but fortunately, your hotel never lets us down.
The gold-accented interiors are striking and have become a signature look of your hotel. We’ll remember them just as fondly as we remember landing at Singapore Changi Airport. We recently bought a new house and have been decorating with gold-colored furniture from Koala Living. After staying with you, we’ve realized that our inspiration was inadvertently drawn from your hotel rooms.
We come to Dorsett every year and have never been disappointed. We look forward to returning again soon.
The location of the hostel was great, right in the centre of where you need to be. The staff were nice and helpful. However the hostel standard was not up to the same level as the location and staff. The rooms were moderately clean, we had a massive brown stain on our bedding when we arrived, the showers and toilets had mould and clumps of spiders and spiders webs everywhere. In the corners, on the ceilings, in the actual toilet and shower areas. That being said you get what you pay for, this is one of the cheapest hostels in airlie beach, so you sacrifice some cleanness due to how cheap it is.

I recently stayed at Hides Hotel during a trip to Cairns and was pleasantly surprised by the value and charm this heritage-style hotel offers.
The location is absolutely unbeatable—right in the heart of the city and within walking distance of the Esplanade, night markets, Reef Fleet Terminal, and plenty of restaurants and cafes. Whether you’re heading out for a reef tour or just exploring the local area, Hides is a super convenient base.
The room was basic but clean and comfortable. It had everything I needed, including air-conditioning (a must in Cairns!), a small fridge, and free Wi-Fi. The building itself has an old-school character that’s a bit different from your typical chain hotels, which I actually really liked—it feels like you’re staying somewhere with history.
Staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay, happy to give recommendations and assist with bookings. There’s also a lovely wide veranda on the upper level, which is a great spot to relax in the evening and take in the atmosphere of the city.
Only downside was that the hotel is a bit dated in places, and depending on the room you’re in, you might hear a bit of street noise—but that’s to be expected in a central location like this.
Overall, Hides Hotel is a great choice for budget-conscious travelers who want clean, central, no-fuss accommodation with character. I’d definitely consider staying again.
Recently renovated rooms with modern facilities. The bistro has one of the finest menus you'll ever see in pubs. The best place to wind down whether you're on holidays or just stopping overnight. The onsite BWS is also quite handy.

We stayed here for a couple of nights. The staff were very welcoming and always willing to help with anything, which was a real positive — truly 5-star service from the team.
Unfortunately, the housekeeping was disappointing. Some cups in the room had lipstick marks on them, and the shower gel bottles appeared to be mostly filled with water rather than gel, although this was rectified immediately after mentioning this to the reception.
The hotel is about a 20-minute walk into town. There is also a bus stop near the hospital with a bus running roughly every hour. The hotel provides a shuttle service to the center, but it only operates at 8:30 AM, 9:30 AM, 4:00 PM, and 4:30 PM, so the schedule is somewhat limited.
There aren’t many dining options nearby other than the hotel restaurant, and the food there was not particularly good. Your best option is to head into town, where there are plenty of restaurants to choose from.
The hotel itself feels quite dated and could benefit from renovations. For example, the hairdryer was broken, the sink was cracked, and the shower looked old and worn.
On the positive side, the sheets and towels were clean, and pool/beach towels are provided. The pool/Jacuzzi is clean. Overall, I would recommend staying here and an very happy with my stay.

Each accommodation at Mumma 's Hostel Cairns is thoughtfully created and adorned to provide visitors with a comfortable, home-like atmosphere. In select rooms of the hostel, guests can enjoy the advantage of having air conditioning available for their convenience. In select rooms, guests can enjoy a touch of amusement with the availability of television for their entertainment.Understanding the significance of bathroom amenities in enhancing guest contentment, the hostel offers a hair dryer within certain chosen rooms.
Excellent location, right across from the beach. Stunning views from the window, couldn't ask for better! I had a renovated room, which was clean and tidy. The kitchen had all the necessary equipment and utensils. They allowed me to pay the deposit in cash, and there were no issues with getting it back. The jacuzzi and pool are open until 9:30 PM, which is great for relaxing after a long day. Parrots even came to visit my balcony! 😍 For my travel dates, this was the cheapest option in Gold Coast, and I'm so glad I chose this hotel.
It was great stay. Clean room, quiet, peaceful ambiance plus the beach itself. Professional staff. In short we love it ❤️

Great
CCrouching Koala Hidden EmuStayed at the Wyndham in Surfers Paradise for a family weekend away and overall it was a solid choice. As Gold Coast locals we didn’t really need the constant upsell on tours and activities, but I can see how interstate or overseas visitors would find that useful.
The location is the real strength here — easy walking distance to Cavill Avenue, directly opposite Q1, and the observation deck nearby was great for the family. Very convenient without needing to constantly drive around Surfers.
Our king-sized room was spacious, comfortable and worked well travelling with a young family. The hotel itself felt clean and well maintained.
One thing worth noting for visitors is that the Hamilton Street beach entrance is still showing the effects of Cyclone Alfred from 2024, so beach access in that immediate area is not quite back to normal yet. That’s obviously outside the hotel’s control, but useful for travellers planning beach days.
Overall, a good stay if you want a central Surfers Paradise base with plenty within walking distance.
GGuest UserI was very satisfied. There is a shop near the hotel, which is very helpful. Due to its location, it is a place where you do not have to eat. The hotel employees are very nice.
GGuest UserThe Mantra Hotel has outstanding location. It is directly in front of the Woolworths supermarket - the best option in central Cairns. It's also virtually opposite (the esplanade side)the lagoon public beachfront swimming pool. Finally it's just a 5 minute walk from Cairns Cruise Terminal, with outstanding day trips to Green Island, Fitzroy Island and the Reef. I booked a sea view room. When you enter the room, you don't see the ocean, but a building across the road. However, the view from the balcony was amazing. The balcony overlooks the main features of lagoon on the sea front. During the day it is great view - the lagoon pools and sea in the background. At night you cannot see the sea (as to be expected) but you have the amazing lagoon lights, which makes it very desirable and even romantic. Our room was at the end of block, which overlooks a shopping mall (no car noise) - looking right from the balcony is the lagoon view and looking left is a mountain view. However, from 2:00pm to 6:00pm the sun comes directly into the balcony area, which means it unusable until sun sets. Of course if you don't mind baking in the sun on the balcony, this is not really a concern. The room itself is pretty basic. The mini fridge of OK and TV has domestic channels only - no cable TV for BBC/CNN. The bathroom is of a good size. There is combined shower & bath. However, when using the shower, it can slightly flood this bathroom. A shower curtain may be desirable because the glass panel is not sufficient enough. At $225 per night this hotel was not cheap and you can better deals by coming in the off-season OR going bit further down the esplanade, and choosing another hotel. The Mantra does have its own pool and it is wonderfully heated, with normal deck chairs you would expect at 4 star hotel. However, the pool gets very little natural sunlight, because it of its location between 2 buildings. Overall, the hotel has amazing location, and it is still recommended, despite the shortcomings mentioned. My final note: When we checked in, I was impressed with the level of service provided by the receptionist. She had a very welcome attitude and a wonderful personality.
JJ小米I accidentally booked this hotel and found out it was non-cancellable when I tried to cancel, so I had no choice but to stay. Overall, it was okay; the room was a bit small but quite tidy and clean. The front desk staff were very friendly. The restaurant was under renovation during our stay, so we were given vouchers to have breakfast at the hotel across the street. Clearly, for an extra AUD$80 a day, we could have stayed somewhere much better. The hotel hallways had no air conditioning and were very stuffy and hot. However, there was a free coffee machine downstairs with complimentary coffee. The swimming pool looked dirty though, and no one was using it. The location is a bit far from the Reef Terminal, about a 17-minute walk.
AAnonymous UserGreat stay! Perfect for kids and adults alike with the choice of both the pool and ocean. Just wish I had booked the sea view. I couldn’t fault the service especially when addressing an issue with our parking.
GGuest UserThis was not our first stay and in the main it was good. We stayed twice on this trip with a stint on Magnetic Island in between. Service on our departure stay was while not bad was marred by the gentleman who was abrupt and less than enthusiastic about being helpful. We arrived in the morning knowing we couldn’t get in until later and were greeted by a friendly and helpful reception attendant. Who said we would let us know by text as soon as a room was available for us.
We took that to mean if we could enter our room before the scheduled check in time we would get a message. We never got a message. In fact we had ran out of ways to entertain ourselves and keep cool with just under an hour to check in time. So we went to the reception to assign the room was ready and were grumpily informed our room wasn’t ready and that is why we had not had a text. We understood this could be the case but the summary dismissal was far from reasonable customer service. No apology given we had patiently waited for over four hours already. We waited in the lobby and watched as others were given rooms. Why we had to wait while others did not was given no explanation and made no senseh to us. When check in time came and went is when I had to contain myself. One thing for us to be shunned for being early but for them to tell our room was not available at the time the business had committed to was very frustrating. It showed they had no system and were unprepared to provide reasonable customer service. We waited patiently and thankfully not for much longer and maintained our positive countenance. Thank goodness the room was, while only on the first floor, the better of rooms we had stayed in and worth the wait had it been managed better. If it weren’t for the grumpy reception we would have rated this trip more highly. Hopefully this business can get its cleaning process and attitude to customers of male staff improved the location value and room would be highly recommended as is a little work to do.
AAnonymous UserI was mostly happy with the resort. There were some things missing like more food options (only two restaurants) and small luxuries like a sauna for example. It’s also hard to rate the staff as you had some incredibly helpful staff and then some real depressing ones that were just rude. The only other thing that was a bit of a shock was that the beaches were just full of dead coral and no sand. I hadn’t been to one of the islands in the Whitsundays so I was surprised to see that. The photos of the resort did not show this so it would have been nice to know so it didn’t lead to disappointment. Some positives though is that the resort was beautifully designed and they offered a lot of free water activities like kayaking for example. The buffet breakfast was also really nice.
GGuest User1. **Prime Location:** Just a 3-minute walk to the beach, with the G:link light rail station right at the doorstep. It's a 5-minute stroll to Cavill Avenue, a bustling pedestrian street packed with restaurants, bars, and convenience stores. A taxi to the airport takes about 25 minutes.
2. **Amenities & Experience:** Modern rooms, many with private balconies (sea or city views available). Features include an outdoor pool, spa, sauna, and gym. Dining options include Fables restaurant and Tales bar. Free and stable WiFi is provided. The downsides are that some facilities feel a bit dated, and street-facing/lower-floor rooms can experience noise from nearby bars on weekends. Parking is paid and limited.
3. **Service:** 24-hour front desk with multilingual staff who can assist with booking theme park tickets and excursions. Luggage storage is seamless. A credit card deposit is required at check-in.
4. **Ideal For:** Couples, families, and budget-conscious business travelers. During peak season, it's recommended to book an inner, higher-floor room in advance.
TTheobaldThis is a fabulous place to stay. We chose a studio room, with ocean view, and it was really worth it. Although we arrived late, we contacted call staff at the door and they talked us through the check in process. Service was kind and responsive throughout. The only small downside was that the rooms are only serviced once each 8 days. However, when we requested fresh towels they were happy to provide them. The pool complex is lovely - the pool is a little cold for winter, but the spa was comfortable and we really enjoyed the sauna. Breakfast was included, and we had the choice of three cafes in the complex, with delicious food at all three.
We can't wait to return!
XXiaomi2323Every time I visit the Gold Coast, I stay at the Marriott, and the breakfast is always great.
However, the caps on the shampoo and other toiletries can be easily opened, which raises some safety concerns.
After 6 PM, there are no staff or services at the pool, and it's not lit. For children with UV allergies who wish to swim in the evening, it's not possible. December is summer in Australia, so it gets dark late. I hope the hotel considers extending the pool's closing time, especially since guests are here for a holiday. Thank you.
