"I contacted customer service in advance, and they were always responsive. For our celebration, they even provided some simple decorations, which was a pleasant surprise when we checked in! Our flight was delayed, and although the official check-in time was before 24:00, we were still able to check in smoothly more than half an hour late that day (we hadn't anticipated the delay would be that long). The room view was really good (it's a pity we didn't stay in the room until evening, otherwise, watching the sunset would have been great!). There's also an outdoor viewing area on the 6th floor, but we didn't stay long enough for its operating hours. The room size was decent, with just one chair, but it had a full kitchen with almost all utensils provided! The bathroom also had toiletries. The breakfast included in the room rate was a nice bonus. The best part was definitely the infinity pool! It was still cool and out of the sun at 8:00 AM. I stayed at both Citadines Waterfront and The Shore in Kota Kinabalu, and it turns out they're in the same building but with separate entrances (they are interconnected). The pool on the 6th floor is directly separated, which is pretty cool."

"The room was really clean, I forgot to take pictures. It was quiet at night and felt very safe. There are many restaurants and convenience stores downstairs. It's very close to Gaya Street and the DBKK jetty, about a 5-minute taxi ride. Every room has a floor-to-ceiling window with direct views of the jetty and the sea, as shown in the pictures – both the daytime views and the sunset are beautiful. Kota Kinabalu is the most convenient and comfortable city I've visited so far; it's very beautiful and chill. The host was also very nice and patient in answering my questions. This is the best and most worthwhile hotel I've ever picked, the value for money is truly unbeatable!"

"Highly recommend this place! The accommodation is clean and tidy, almost all basic amenities are provided, and they even offer mineral water and a toothbrush/toothpaste – so thoughtful! As soon as you open the door, you're greeted by a stunning ocean view! This sea view is unbeatable; waking up to the ocean right in front of you is incredibly comfortable! It’s just a 2-minute walk downstairs to the pier next door, making island hopping super convenient! The location of JQ is excellent, making it easy to get around by taxi! A truly wonderful stay! I'll definitely book this place again next time I visit. The host is very responsive and quickly resolves any issues! Highly recommended! 👍👍👍"

The Monocolo Boutique Hotel provides a great place for travelers to relax after a busy day. The Monocolo Boutique Hotel is an ideal choice for travelers who want to take in the sights and sounds of Kota Kinabalu. Traveling to the hotel is easy with Kota Kinabalu International Airport located approximately 9km away and (JKNS) Tanjung Aru Railway Station roughly 10km away. With multiple attractions nearby including Alam Damai Condominium, Carmelite Monastery and Aquascape Center, guests will find plenty to keep themselves occupied. In their spare time, guests can explore the hotel's surroundings. If cleanliness is important to you, this hotel makes an excellent choice, as our guests consider this to be one of the cleanest hotels in the city. For guests traveling with families, this hotel is consistently one of the most popular choices.

"Facilities: The room was small with only one chair, which wasn't very convenient for a double room. There were two pillows, both identical and very high, causing me neck pain – not good. Cleanliness: Initially, it seemed okay until I found oily stains on my bedsheets... clearly not something I caused. (See picture P3) Ambiance: It's a hotel converted from a bar, which is decent. The winding corridors reminded me of a hotel from a dream. Service: Average. I arrived early, and they charged 70 MYR for early check-in... While I know some hotels have this policy, it was still quite frustrating. Location: It's a bit far from attractions, requiring a taxi for 5-20 MYR. Gaya Street is 5-8 MYR away, and the beach can be 22 MYR when it's busy. It's close to the airport and in a Chinese district. I crossed the road daily to eat at a Chinese Muslim restaurant opposite, which was quite tasty."

Hotel Grandis Kota Kinabalu Named after the Ascidieria Grandis (Eria grandis), an endemic orchid found on Mount Kinabalu, Hotel Grandis embodies the natural beauty and warm hospitality of Sabah. Ideally located in the heart of Kota Kinabalu, the hotel offers guests easy access to the city's premier shopping, dining, entertainment, and cultural attractions, making it an excellent choice for both business and leisure travellers. Conveniently situated just 15 minutes from Kota Kinabalu International Airport, the hotel is directly connected to Suria Sabah Shopping Mall and is within walking distance of Jesselton Point Ferry Terminal or DBKK Jetty, the gateway to the islands of Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. Guests can also easily explore nearby attractions such as Gaya Street, the Sunday Market, major banks, and the city waterfront. For meetings, conventions, and exhibitions, Sabah International Convention Centre is only a five-minute drive away.

"Arrived at the hotel a little after 1 PM and they checked me in right away, no deposit required (despite some reviews mentioning one). I'd read complaints about noise, so I asked the front desk for a high floor and got the ninth! My family – my husband, son, and I – booked two rooms. The front desk gave us a king room and a twin room with a connecting door. It was super convenient for our family to open it up. These types of double-layered connecting doors are common in Southeast Asian hotels, and both sides need to be opened to use them. The rooms are spacious; one was ready immediately, and the other was still being cleaned. The hotel's location is excellent. About 300 meters to the left, across the road, there's a Subway and a 'Mingke' shop nearby where they speak Chinese and prices are generally low, so no need to bargain! Behind the hotel is the new DBKK jetty. To the right, about 600-700 meters away, is Gaya Street. Breakfast was plentiful, and my 5.5-year-old son ate and stayed for free. There's a rooftop pool where you can watch the sunset, though there's a new building under construction that partially blocks the view."

The room interiors are nice, and the sea views and sunsets are absolutely stunning. However, there's barely any beach; it's mostly grassy areas with sea views and sunsets. The breakfast is quite perfunctory – only five or six types of meat, all chicken, with no beef or seafood. This definitely doesn't justify the 3,000-per-night room rate. The seascape is very beautiful. The Horizon lounge room is small and just average. Breakfast is not very good, only chicken, no seafood, it doesn't match the room charge.

Don't book during the rainy season, don't book during the rainy season, don't book during the rainy season. It's from Sep to Feb. I said 3 times it's important if you don't wanna ruin your holiday. We booked 3D2N in mid Sep. Our holiday turned out to be a staycation nightmare in the resort. We can't do all the water activities neither the jungle trekking. The water heater in our room is not working, we have to shower with shivering cold water in this kind of weather. Lots of big size anta inside the room crawling from the bathroom to the bedroom. Make sure you cleaned up for your snacks and drinks, tie up the garbage bag if you don't want these insects to come to your bed, There is also a landslide happening on our first night, luckily we are not affected as we stayed in the ocean villa. There is only one restaurant in this resort, food prices are the same as SG restaurant pricing, no cheap option here. In room dining needs to pay RM25 extra. Staff service is good but this cannot cover the several run down part of the resort.

I chose this hotel for a one-night stay before heading to the overwater bungalow the next day. Although the room facilities were a bit old, they were very clean. There's a convenience store right downstairs, and it's very close to the pier. The sea breeze was a bit loud at night, but the breakfast was excellent and plentiful.

I had a wonderful stay at this resort. The resort is very beautiful, clean, and peaceful. The staff were friendly and kind, and they even provided an extra bed for my kids, which made our stay more comfortable. The beachfront location is amazing and very convenient for kids to do snorkeling safely. I also love that there were no sandflies, so it felt safe and comfortable for my children. The breakfast was delicious with many good choices. The environment was calm, quiet, and not noisy at all perfect for relaxing and also very suitable for honeymoon couples. I highly recommend this place and would definitely come again.

We stayed in the Ocean Wing. The room was very spacious, but the facilities were a bit old. The plunge pool on the balcony was large, but a bit dirty. Both the swimming pool and the beach were great. The restaurants require advance reservations, which felt a bit like a 'scarcity marketing' tactic. The Italian restaurant wasn't good and the environment wasn't clean. Breakfast was just average, and so was the service. In contrast, the Japanese teppanyaki was excellent, with warm service and good food. The free airport shuttle was a nice touch, but it only runs twice a day, in the morning and evening. The front desk service was very enthusiastic, and they even gave us a local specialty necklace and welcome drinks. Overall, it's a good place for a vacation.

Service: Five stars! I sent the hotel an email the day before my arrival, explaining the purpose of my trip, and they kindly replied. At check-in, they gave us a cake and decorated the room. The service at this established hotel is truly top-notch. Facilities: It's an older hotel, so no smart home features, but it's well-maintained. The room had no strange odors, and the hot water was fast and plentiful. Location: Unbeatable! The sea view is genuine, not just a sliver of the sky. The island-hopping pier is a 10-minute walk, and the Gaya Street night market is only a 5-minute walk. Drawbacks: Breakfast is too expensive, and there are many alternative options nearby.

I booked a newly renovated room on the 2nd floor of the main building, as requested. First, the cons: it's very remote, far from the city center, and even a single trip to the nearest town costs around 40 Malaysian Ringgit. So, dining options are limited to the hotel. I ate at two hotel restaurants, the VIP building and a seaside Western restaurant. Both had one major characteristic: long waits. After ordering, you have to wait quite a while. If you're used to the faster service in China, you might lose your temper here. The hotel's cleanliness also left much to be desired. There were earplugs from a previous guest in the corner by the bed, which I guess is because some rooms are indeed noisy... There were also quite a few long, yellow hairs on the chairs and floor. The bathroom only provided two bath towels; everything else was forgotten. There was no hand soap on the vanity either. The air conditioning vent also looked quite dirty... Now for the pros: the natural environment is good, the beach is large enough, and the accessible areas were cleaned. There was a lot of trash closer to the edges, but it didn't affect my enjoyment. Monkeys, lizards, squirrels, and geckos were everywhere. It's a great experience for families with children. As for adults... even bikinis were a rare sight, probably because there weren't many guests. I also have to complain about something else. After staying at so many hotels, my assessment is that this is a management issue. Such a beautiful location is not being run well. There was even a notice about a fine for outside food delivery. This notice alone highlights the level of professionalism. Are fines just arbitrarily imposed? Wouldn't it be better to say that bringing outside food requires a cleaning fee? Furthermore, I couldn't add any WeChat contacts, neither the Chinese butler nor the Chinese front desk.
