"Hotel Mt Fuji has the best views of Lake Yamanaka and Mt Fuji. It is located high up on a hill and looks down over the lake. Shuttle bus service to and from Yamamakako iriguchi was excellent. The staff in 7 eleven kindly called for me to be picked up on arrival and again on the second day of my stay. The breakfast was the best in the past 2  weeks of my trip. Japanese breakfast is so delicious. The omelette chef was such a perfectionist and each was made perfectly. Staff were particularly helpful and the public baths , there are 2 different locations ,are excellent, both very different. The hotel itself is very old and dated and could do with a renovation. However saying that, the room was very spacious and comfortable. I loved being able to open the window which had an insect screen and have fresh air. The only thing I did not like is that you could not wear your yukata to breakfast. No big deal really. I would highly recommend Hotel Mt Fuji."

"This hotel has a very traditional, old-fashioned feel. We arrived at Lake Kawaguchiko around 11 PM, so we had to take a taxi to the hotel. We rang the bell at the front desk, and a staff member, wearing traditional wooden clogs, came out. They barely understood English but were very dedicated. They escorted us to our room, meticulously explaining each facility, and even gestured to show us where breakfast would be served. If you want a lake view, I recommend booking a Japanese-style room. We booked a Western-style room, which was on the other side, and in the morning, we saw smoke rising from chimneys outside – a charming, everyday scene. We didn't see any bears, but surprisingly, we spotted monkeys! Breakfast was a set meal, though eating fish so early in the morning took some getting used to. The morning shuttle can take you to Lake Kawaguchiko. For the return trip in the afternoon, the shuttle only picks up after 3 PM. Alternatively, you can take the Red Line bus to a jewelry museum (I can't recall the exact stop) and walk a few steps from there. On weekend evenings, you can watch fireworks from across the river, right outside the hotel. They launch them from both the left and right sides. If you want a closer view, follow the crowd to the left for about 10 minutes."

"Definitely one of the best stays during my Japan trip so far. The host Leslie was super friendly and welcoming, he walked us through everything we needed to know and even gave us a little tour of the place. The highlight for me was definitely the three different types of onsen (something I was really looking forward to!), and the rooms were clean, spacious, and really comfortable. He even drove us to the nearest convenience store when he found out we hadn’t had dinner yet, which was such a kind gesture. Breakfast the next morning (Western-style) was amazing too. Would 200% come back again!"

"A short drive from Lake Yamanaka, we checked into here for the night—mainly because we wanted to explore the area and try the region’s famous Hōtō noodles. We chose a traditional Japanese futon room for the experience. That meant laying out our own beds—slightly clumsy, a bit of trial and error, and a lot of laughing when we realised there’s no “redo” once everything’s set. The weather had a chill to it, so the onsen became the highlight. Stepping into the hot water while the cold air lingered outside—it slowed everything down in a way you don’t realise you need. Nothing extravagant, nothing overly planned. Just the four of us, figuring things out as we went. Looking back, it wasn’t the hotel or even the lake—it was those small, unpolished moments that made the night feel complete."

"This time I came to Japan to find a quieter hot spring hotel, relax, sit and forget to completely exceed expectations. The room was more spacious than expected, the environment was very quiet, and the whole person slowed down after the stay. The kaiseki cuisine at night is very exquisite, not only beautifully presented, but every dish can eat the characteristics of the season ingredients, and the taste is also very good. After soaking in the hot springs, I slept very comfortably. I also experienced yoga classes the next morning. The first time I participated, there was no pressure at all. After the end, the whole person was refreshed. The staff service is very meticulous, from the check-in introduction to the dining arrangement, they are very thoughtful, and they will help in time if there is a problem. It is more suitable for slowing down and enjoying the time in the hotel, rather than rushing to check in the attractions. If you come to Japan in the future, you will definitely choose here."

"The rooms and surrounding environment were quite clean, though a bit small. The location is about a 20-minute walk from Oishi Park. The owner offers rides to the station in the morning if needed, but you have to book this in advance. You also need to make your own bed. Service response was quick, and the breakfast area was nice, but it requires pre-booking and payment. The main drawback was the poor soundproofing in the rooms; you could clearly hear footsteps and activity from other rooms at night."

During this family trip, the hotel's management was not rigorous enough. Our booking was for two nights in a premium Japanese-style room, but we were unable to check in on the first night because the front desk staff said the room had been given to other guests. Instead, we were randomly assigned a standard quadruple room. After negotiating with the front desk twice, they agreed to let us change rooms the next day. As a hotel by Lake Kawaguchi at Mount Fuji, there is room for improvement in its management. We hope this will encourage a better stay experience for all tourists.

We had a wonderful stay at Grand Mercure Yatsugatake as a family traveling with a baby. The hotel is surrounded by nature, with beautiful views of the mountains, which immediately creates a calm and relaxing atmosphere — perfect for families who want to slow down and breathe. The hotel is very family-friendly. Traveling with a baby can be stressful, but the staff made us feel welcome and comfortable from the moment we arrived. Everyone was kind, patient, and attentive, which really made a difference for us as parents. The room was spacious, clean, and quiet, with enough space to comfortably stay with a baby. We especially appreciated the peaceful environment at night, which allowed our baby (and us!) to rest well. The facilities were also well suited for families. The common areas are easy to navigate with a stroller, and the overall layout of the hotel feels relaxed and not overwhelming. The natural surroundings add a special charm and make the stay feel refreshing and rejuvenating. Overall, Grand Mercure Yatsugatake is an excellent choice for families with babies who are looking for comfort, tranquility, and good service in a beautiful natural setting. We would definitely consider coming back and recommend it to other families traveling with young children.

For any Yuru Camp anime fans, if you also are interested in an Onsen experience this is the perfect place. The facilities and staff are amazing! I couldn't believe the size of my room, especially after coming from a business hotel in Tokyo. I thought Deluxe Twin was just the ”deluxe” version of a standard single twin size bed room instead of two twin beds but there are no complaints. Given it's more remote location I was expecting zero English but I was so surprised at how well some of the staff spoke English and had print outs for English speakers. I have to shout out two staff members, Nozomi and Joon Bae's english combined with my limited and grammatically atrocious Japanese they went above and beyond making me understand how everything worked as well as assisting me with my ventures outside of the onsen. They have two e-bikes available for rent which I rode to the next station on the minobu line so I could visit the school that was used in the anime as well as get a taxi to take me to Lake Shibere, from episodes 6 and 7 of season one. It was my first time in Japan, being the only foreigner at the hotel for the two full days, I only visited the baths once however the facilities are amazing and I plan on going back to use the Onsen more.

We stayed in the traditional room which we wanted to try. It was a fun experience but not one to do if you have a bad back. The onsen is nice, there were 3 communal onsens and the one cold plunge in the ladies section. All pools were a bit small and could probably hold 6-8 ppl max. The hotel offered free refreshment drinks before 5pm after that there are vending machines in the lobby of the onsen. There's a shuttle every hour to the station in town which is convenient but would be better if they ran every 30mins. Staff are very kind and professional. I asked for towels as larger robes which arrived instantly. The hotel doesn't have anything nearby so be prepared to use bikes, scooters the shuttle or your own car

Yanagiya is a nice little local onsen. They do not have too many rooms so you will not feel overcrowded. It is a nice place to spend for days to relax your body and mind. Staff are very friendly and helpful. They can speak limited English but in case you come across any issue with language, feel free to use translation app. If you are driving, the onsen is easy to find and there is a carpark in front of the Onsen with plenty of space. There are also 2 x EV charging but not sure if they are for onsen guess. The room is spacious, clean and tidy. The air conditioner is featured with heater and cooler function, so you don't have to worry about weather during winter and summer. The hot spring is open for 24 hrs, except time when they swap between male and female access, usually it takes 30 minutes and they take this opportunity to clean up the facilities too. Food are generally fine and portion is reasonable. Staff are caring d considerate. We have two kids at age of 7 and 9 and they do not take spicy or raw food. When they noticed, they have offered to tailor made the breakfast for the kids so that they don't prepare food that kids do not eat.

The guest rooms were as described in the reviews. The toilet paper was inconveniently placed and difficult to use. The bathroom in the room had a terrible odor when the water was turned on, although I didn't use it. The hot-drink glasses in the room were fine. I was inconvenienced by the lack of slippers provided in the building. The large public bath was enjoyable, with many open-air baths and saunas. The breakfast and welcome drink service were also good. The daytime and evening meals were all decent. However, there were many drunk guests at night, and the smell and noise were irritating. Overall, it's not a bad hotel. I would like to use it again.

Warm and cozy place to recharge yourself after a visit in the Kawaguchiko area. All amenities and facilities are just perfectly clean and easily accessible, while they are keeping some of the Japanese customs which adds more elements in your stay. Host and staff were extremely friendly and attentive, just right by your side whenever you need them. Deffo recommend without reservation if you’re visiting Kawaguchiko soon.
