"Firstly, the location is excellent. It's about a 15-minute walk from the train station. (Image 1: Hotel exterior) The hotel is very close to the city walls, and other attractions are also within walking distance. Secondly, there's a small lift in the lobby to help bring down luggage. (Image 2) I was really pleased to discover this little lift. Thirdly, I recommend the Yorkshire Museum, which is within walking distance. It takes about three to four hours to explore, and they have Chinese audio guides. Image 3 shows the many brochures and tourist information available in the lobby. Image 4 is of the lobby itself. Image 5 shows the bathroom. Image 6 shows a room with one double bed and one single bed. Image 7 shows the riverside view from behind the hotel. Image 8 shows the interesting toilet flush handle. Image 9 shows the room equipped with a kettle. Image 10 shows many areas of the hotel decorated with Monet's paintings, which is very cozy! Overall, it was a pleasant experience!"

"Stayed here with my wife and our 2 grandchildren on 13th August for 1 night ,it was our first ever time staying at this hotel and although the location is excellent and from the first look of the hotel it looks amazing, the size, the architectural structure is stunning, the entrance is grand and once inside the lobby is huge with a big staircase in the middle. However after checking in at reception we took the lift to our room on the third floor, and for such a big hotel the lifts are way too small (supposed to fit up to 8 people, maybe 8 children but definitely not 8 adults). We had a family executive seaview room, fairly large sleeping area,1 double and 2 single beds and although the bathroom was modern, tiled from top to bottom, it had a bath with shower/tap combo instead of a walk-in shower area or cubicle, the room itself was very old fashioned and in need of an update, cracked and water marked ceiling and when I presumed the people in the room above ours were taking a shower the ceiling started leaking, dripping into the middle of the room wetting the carpet, we reported this one of the reception staff who just said they would visit the people in the room and see what was causing the leak ”probably using the shower with the curtain outside the bath” they said , we never heard anything back so it seemed like they didn't care. There is a nice large outside balcony seating area which would be nice to sit and have a drink over looking the beach and sea in the hot weather or on a warm night but on a night none of the outside lights worked so was very dark which was a shame. Breakfast options are very limited, sausage, bacon, eggs, beans ,fried tomatoes, toast and cereal . We didn't notice until the morning we left and I'm sort of glad we didn't but we found mice or rat droppings on the carpet, along the edges and in the corner of the room! Overall it's a shame as this hotel was probably amazing 30 - 40 years ago, needs a lot of updating to the rooms and just more general maintenance and TLC to to hotel could make it Grand again albeit very disappointed and will not be staying again unless it gets a complete renovation in the near future."

"Booking was easy; the staff were quick and friendly on check in. The room was clean, smelled fresh and the bathroom a lot nicer than last time I wouldn’t recommend paying for the upgrade for a bathtub. They are so small you can’t relax in them.  Breakfast was to die for. Fantastic range, and delicious cumberland sauages making a change to the usual hotel pork sausages"

Hotel near Clifton,York
A 10-minute walk from York Minster sits our home in this noble city. The remains of the Roman walls are close to the hotel making this treasure of a place to explore entirely walkable. History is everywhere and so is superb shopping dining and drinking. The building is a Grade II Listed Regency townhouse of extremely stately proportions and head-turningly good looks. Inside the high ceilings and original features are joined by the kind of things we like to share with our guests. Pantries stocked full of treats for the taking great restaurant food throughout the day delicious drinks from the bar a spa centered on bespoke therapies and a straight-from-the-heart welcome.

"This hotel has great style! From the interior design to the cocktails, everything was excellent. Although breakfast isn't a buffet, there are plenty of options, very local and English. The hotel even has a basement that served as a shelter during WWII and has now been converted into a spa – very cool, definitely worth checking out. The hotel pantry also offers complimentary snacks, fruits, and drinks. It's truly good, and the location is fantastic. The record player and vinyl records in the room are a wonderful touch."

"Very central to Harrogate. The decor of the room does require some upgrade (peeling wallpaper, stained carpets). The bedding was very thin, duvet and pillows. Shower was very weak pressure. Overall, an average stay. Not bad but not good either."

York Minster Cathedral and dozens of shops, eateries, and bars are within one mile. The University of York is just over a mile away. Enjoy free breakfast and our 24-hour fitness centre.

"The location is great, and a morning stroll through the town was lovely. The only downside was that the hotel's air conditioning wasn't working. I contacted the front desk three times, but to no avail. The first time, the lady at the front desk suggested turning it on and off multiple times to activate it. The second time, she came to the room to demonstrate, but when that didn't work, she said she'd go to the server room to adjust the AC settings, which also yielded no results. The third time, when I contacted a different staff member at the front desk, I was asked, 'Has someone already tried to fix it?' Then they brought a fan, repeatedly saying 'I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry.' They explained that the AC cooling system couldn't be activated because the weather in York was cool. It was just 'I'm sorry' after that. It was the first time I'd heard such a reason for an AC not working. Nevertheless, the town of York is still very beautiful."

"We booked two lovely ”King” rooms - very clean and comfortable, in superb settings. The hotel is very conveniently located to allow a short walk into the town. We stayed for two nights, and there were busy weddings on both days - but there was minimal noise, and the wedding guests added to the lovely atmosphere. The hotel appeared to be almost fully booked for both days, so finding that only ONE lift was working was less than helpful (we were told that the other lift had been out of action ”for some time”, due to the hotel ”awaiting spare parts”?) Annoyingly, the one working lift only went up to the 4th floor, so to reach our room on the 5th floor we had to hump our suitcases up the stairs - minor inconvenience, but unexpected from such a prestigious hotel. Our biggest gripe was (a.) the lack of available parking spaces (one car park had a huge marquee erected on it for a function) and (b.) being told when checking in that there was a parking charge of £18 per night - even though there was no mention on the website or on the booking details. It felt rather ”cheap and petty” for a hotel to have to stoop to fleecing their guests for parking fees to park at their hotel! We estimated that there were around 150 cars - so guests with cars are subsiding the hotel by over £2500 per night. All-in-all, a thoroughly enjoyable stay in a lovely hotel set in lovely surroundings - we would definitely stay there again."

Yes the room was dated, and yes the room was hot. However the room was clean, comfortable and a fan was provided to help circulate the warm air. The windows have restricted openings most likely due to H&S but with the fan it was enough to move the warm air out and allow cooler air in. Check up was chaotic but the lady apologized and explained they had a member of the staff off sick. She worked her way through everyone as quickly as she could giving everyone the same warm welcome. Breakfast was enjoyable and the spa area was a delight offering everything you need. After checking out I realized I left my sunglasses in the room. The cleaning team were so helpful allowing me access to retrieve them and to double check I had everything

Stayed here with my wife and our 2 grandchildren on 13th August for 1 night ,it was our first ever time staying at this hotel and although the location is excellent and from the first look of the hotel it looks amazing, the size, the architectural structure is stunning, the entrance is grand and once inside the lobby is huge with a big staircase in the middle. Overall it's a shame as this hotel was probably amazing 30 - 40 years ago, needs a lot of updating to the rooms and just more general maintenance and TLC to to hotel could make it Grand again albeit very disappointed and will not be staying again unless it gets a complete renovation in the near future.

We liked the welcome by the concierge. Building is incredible. The first check-in was nice. The second check-in we were ignored walked past and Not greeted nicely when we got to our room. I wasn’t very happy with it a lot smaller more than I imagined from the pictures. Big beds though and firm. We had the executive twin. The carpets were fraid the units all worn and broken only two tinny water bottles. There was a fridge in the room but very noisy had to turn that off. wasn’t very clean in the shower. It had a connecting door in the room which I don’t like personally, I did ask the Hotel if there was another room available or if we could be upgraded, This took nearly an hour with long phone breaks to be shown to another room that was dated and had a really bad smell like mold.  I have stayed at other five star hotels and when you’re not happy they go above and beyond and didn’t feel like this Hotel did everything at all, it was overpriced. More like a 4 star in the rooms. It costs you £30 to go into the spa every time and we have to book this wasn’t keen on that either. The Service in the restaurant was great the food was loving the Ride restaurant and the Service in the spa was great with two members of staff. One looked me up and down and a bit off but There was a friendly man offering drinks and was really friendly and helpful. There were nice parts of the stay but felt the effort to change our room was poor. Won’t stay again because room was basic damaged, with the cost of the room, spa should be less.

The hotel is right by the city walls, and some rooms even offer views of them. The room was a bit small but very clean and tidy, and it even had a bathtub – perfect for a relaxing soak after exploring the old town. It's only a ten-minute walk to York Minster and The Shambles, and it's wonderfully peaceful to visit them in the mornings and evenings before the crowds arrive. The English breakfast was decent, and you can enjoy views of the old town from the dining area on the first floor.
